Last week Young Guns asked for you to vote for various player awards to celebrate the achievements of Arsenal’s Reserves and Youth teams during the 2009-2010 campaign. The unofficial ceremony takes place every year. After over 750 responses, we’ve collected the results and you can see yours winners below.
There were six categories and six awards up for grabs, in different sections and aspects of the Reserves & Youth system. They were as follows;

Overall Player Of The Year –
Picking up the Academy (Under 18) Player Of The Year award is striker Benik Afobe. With over 393 votes, Benik swept to victory with 54% of the overall vote. Chuks Aneke came second with 160 votes (16%) while Luke Freeman finished third, collecting 93 votes (12%).
Scooping the Reserve Team Player Of The Year award is Craig Eastmond. In a widespread category, Craig stormed to victory with a huge 311 (52%) of votes. Every player nominated got into double figures of votes but Eastmond was the comfortable winner. Nacer Barazite, 62 votes (10%) and Benik Afobe 54 votes(9%) were the runners up.
Wojciech Szczesny takes the Loanee of the Year award in a competitive group. Each player had their own merits, but goalkeeper Szczesny romped to victory with a whopping 329 (55%) of votes. Jack Wilshere came second after 3 months in the Premier League earned him 132 votes (22%). Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’ third place was secured with 55 (9%).
With another giant margin, Martin Angha wins signing of the season. 362 (62%) of all votes cast went to the Swiss centre back, while his fellow countryman Sead Hajrovic finished second with 98 votes (16%). Jamie Edge finished a respectable third with 49 votes enough for 8%.
The inaugural Break Through Starlet For Next Year saw one clear name emerge. Claiming 423 (70%) of all votes cast, Wellington Silva is the name most readers believe will shine in the coming 12 months. Martin Angha 72 votes (12%) and Zak Ansah 65 votes (10%) finished second and third respectively.
So to the big one, the Player of the Year for 2010. This was the tightest category of them all, with just three votes seperating Under 18 Player of the Year Benik Afobe and Reserves Player of the Year Craig Eastmond.

2. Craig Eastmond – 194 Votes (31%)
3. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas – 99 Votes (16%)

some newspapers think that this bid might be a player plus cash deal and Coquelin will be going the other way permanently and is it true that WEnger has given then a deadline till Thursday ????? If so good on him, Lorient have really been playing hardball up till now but now they will have to make a decision and live with it.
I still think Coquelin has a future with Arsenal what do wenger think about him ??

Newspapers have proven themselves as unreliable. I post information when I have it checked and confirmed. Coquelin is not included as any part of the deal. Any deadline put on it is pure speculation.
That would be a big story, but he’s the only one saying it. I think that tells you all you need to know.

J I dont live in London anymore and have not seen a live game of Arsenal youth players for years are there any Gems coming out of Hale End, in the Under 16s and so on maybe a 14 year old cutting his teeth with the under 16s something like that
I remember Wilshere buzz when he burst on the under 16s side and I saw him play and he was truly sublime anymore players like him coming through ??
people shouldn’t be able to vote for a player who hasn’t joined us yet!

I cant believe Sean Mcdermott has signed a pro contract. JS i personally think hes been awful but hes been here for a year he will get better. But he certainly got a long way to go to beomcing arsenal number 1 i just cant see it with him.
Morrow it doesnt matter if benik afobe wins the young guns award or the baftas. Whats important is that he breaks thorugh the first team and becomes an Arsenal player. (Which id doubt)
Tim Vicary, a journalist who’s been based in Brazil for decades and whose views I respect, said we need to be patient with Wellington Silva. He’s still young, physically small and emotionally perhaps not yet ready to leave Brazil. Even playing for Flumenese has been a bit overwhelming for him – he burst into tears when he scored – so coming in Jan could be more than he’s able to cope with right now. The cold, not knowing the language, the culture shock, the pace of the game, the leg-breaking tackles he’ll encounter if plays in the Carling – it’s a lot for a kid to take on unless he’s exceptionally mature and well-adjusted. Perhaps giving him an extra six months in Brazil and moving in the summer – always easier than January – wouldn’t be such a bad thing?

i cannot believe 49 people voted for jamie edge as signing of the season…..how many of them have seen him play or were they all his relations and friends?…….he was the big kid in under 16 football but looked way out of his depth at under 18.
JS i heard Koscienlny has agreed terms with Arsenal but he waiting for Arsenal to agree a fee with Lorient and apparently Lorient rejected the 10 million bid but are holding out for 15 million. Is there any truth in this. Great work with the awards aswell.
As far as i’m aware slimgooner, Aneke can’t sign pro deal until next month… I may be wrong of course.

Yeah Aneke is still 16 so can’t sign full pro terms until his 17th birthday. I’m pretty certain they’ll be written up already by the club, just waiting for the day he can put pen to paper
wow he’s still only 16 that’s so unreal he looks to good for the Under 18’s I was thinking he was something like 17 or 18ish
Aneke can sign for someone else. He is 17 on 3rd July. So until then we should sweat a bit. However I feel he will sign for us as he is a gooner. We need a few more of them playing for us. And this boy will be a star for us. Monster potential.

less than 10 million pounds in transfer fees and a good looking team by any standards we might sell Eduardo and Rosicky and bring in cole in his place but that’s about it in my view

looks stupid to me. some of the players haven’t played for 1 min!! Some are completely new to PL. And some aren’t good enough! Some is not even in the team yet! It’s not about having players in some position… its about how good they are in their position.
Eduardo is not good enough. Nordveit is completely new to PL and have not so much experiance in top level. Do you expect him to be our world class backup? Walcott has been shit all season and rocisky is injured too much. Thats not depth of squad to me.
And tons of other things to.
I expect many new faces in the first team next season, by that I mean Lansbury, JET, Bartley, and wilshere to do an impact.

@ jom….. if im not mistaken Nordveit has just completed a loan at Nurmberg in germany….Which is prob the most PHYSICALLY demanding league behind the EPL….So yes he does lack EPL experience…but EPL experience only comes with EPL games…. Top league experience is very valuable…. i wouldnt make any assumptions before pre season.

yes he had one season in the german league but he was only ok. To take a spot in Arsenal you have to be almost world class. Don’t say vermalen or eduardo was nothing before arsenal, because they were playing week in week out and was very very good. championship is very very demanding too and league 1 too. Its not all about the physicality but how good you really play, like vision and all that. if he was that good he would had taken a full international spot. Very few young players come from nowhere and play very very good for a top side.
