Arsenal & Sheffield Utd Frustrated Over Bartley Injury

Arsenal and Sheffield United have been left frustrated with the news that Kyle Bartley has actually broken his collar bone, not just cracked it as was first feared. It leaves the centre back with an uncertain immediate future.

Bartley made 12 appearances on loan in the Championship with Sheffield United last season, and a deal was in place for him to return to Yorkshire for the full campaign after completing pre-season with Arsenal. However, during the holidays he suffered an injury to his collar bone, which was first believed to only be a crack, but is now confirmed as a break.

Kyle was hoping to win a first-team place during pre-season and instead be a part of Arsène Wenger’s plans for the new season, something The Blades were content with. However, the injury saw Ignasi Miquel jump the queue, even featuring against Barnet in pre-season. It leaves Kevin Blackwell short of re-inforcements, with the former Leeds boss already turning to former Gunner Kerrea Gilbert.

Bartley is expected to return to training in two to three months.

It shouldn’t mess up his season too much. He could be fit to train fully before the transfer window closes. I hope they can just postpone the loan transfer a bit.

How the hell did he injure himself on holidays?? What, was he roofing and fell off the damn roof?? This could see him lose his place to Miquel. In fact it already has. This is a real shame. Miquel is good enough that Bartley may never get it back.

Dont think Miguel is anywhere ready yet, Milo mate. Bartley will be able to go out on loan to a Championship team when he is eventually fit. That would be the best thing for him, IMO.

Easy J, I’ve broken both my collar bones. The worse break/mend of the two was pretty bad and I was back playing again in 6 wks….So it’s not a massive issue and a loan could still be possible

I think Miquel could easily play in the championship. Bartley may not have lost out to Miquel yet, but Ignasi can steal a march on his squad postition now that Bartley is injured. If Miquel impresses enough, why not keep him with the 1st team squad and play him in the Carling Cup and the odd F.A. Cup or Champions League fixture?? That is what Bartley could have been doing if he weren’t injured. Hopefully he’ll heal quickly and be able to re-claim his spot. I am a huge Miquel fan and a Bartley fan as well. From what I have seen they could really make a good partnership, as they have contrasting styles and are both pretty tall already!! I hope they both make it.

Hi everyone from a Norway Gooner in Austria..

Yes the pic sums it up…. I feel sorry for Kyle…We have too many injuries..!!

And here is moore of that – from a new day in Austria…
Allready we have sent back Henderson, Landsbury, Eastmond and Traore from this camp.
I spoke too Neil Banfield this evning and he told me that Hend & Land was not far away from full traning. Eastmond was runing 2 days ago, so he should be ok soon. Traore looks not so good. Today AW start with 22 players but end up with 20… Song and Gibbs limp off, but I dont think it is too serious, but none of them played this afternoon. Both was in the gym with Diaby. This morning AW still separate away the 5 other WC players. He played the Defenders (Verm5, Kos6, JD20, Gibbs, Nordtveit, Frimpong) against the Fowards (Nasri, JW19, Theo, AA23, TR7, JET, Cha29), and use just one goal. Vito was the GK, and he was excellent. All the Def was OK too, and they only cons one goal. A beauty from AA23 (at last!). Nasri create the chance, and AA23 smash it home past Vito. The good news from this morning was Theo assists from his flank. AW set up JET (left) and Theo (right) wide to feed Cha29 and Nasri. Cha29 grab 3 goals and is looking better every day. The bad news was that the next pair, Sagna (right) and Clichy (left) could not give AA23 and Vela – one disent pass!! MOTM this morning was Vito, but cred to Nasri, Cha 29 and all the Def.

This afternoon AW split 20 players in 4 teams, and arr 6 games. The teams:
    Blue: Alm1 – JD20, Clichy – JW19, Theo
White: Szcz – Sagna, Nordtveit – Nasri, Cha29
    Yellow: Vito – Kos6, Frimpong – TR7, JET
    Green: Fabi – Verm5, Eboue – AA23, Vela

    Results:
    B-G 1-2 (JW19 – Vela 2)
    W-Y 0-3 (Kos6, JET, TR7)
    B-W 1-2 (Clichy – Nordtveit, Sagna)
    Y-G 0-4 (Vela 2, Eboue, Vern5)
    Y-B 2-2 (TR7, JET – JW19 2)
    W-G 1-3 (Nasri – AA23 2, Verm5)

The Green team won all 3 games and Verm5 and Eboue have been exc on this camp, and today Vela did really impress with 4 goals. (he had one more, but ref Pat Rice blow full time when Velas beautyful chip was on his way into the net) AA23 shows again that if it “suits him” he can be magic. JW19 and Nasri again put up a great show, and they look so sharpe.
Also cred to Kos6 and Nordtveit. They will fill the gap from Gallas/Silvestre/Senderos with ease. JD20 need more time but he will give us more power in the box.And cred to all the 4 GK. They feel the competion, and work hard. JET was not so good today. JW19 was exc in last Emirates Cup, and I cant see why this should be his season..
    I hope ….. Bring on Liverpool – please !

Great work Supermac, our own little Austria camp spy! ;D

Loving all this info, it’s great to know that Kos and Chamakh are settling in quickly and already looking good. And that 5-a-side tournament sounds like a hoot, I think fans would pay money to watch it! Going by what you’ve seen, do you think Eboue and Kos could be in the first XI come the start of the season?

Geez I wish Arshavin would just feel like playing all the time. The Russian hockey players are similar to him. They’re brilliant but they don’t always feel like playing. There is the odd exception, but as a whole it is very frustrating to watch. I’m part Russian, but I have never been to Russia, so I don’t really know what their cultutre is like. I know it isn’t the best place to live, but why let that permeate throughout every aspect of your life?? It’s a mystery to me. I guess I should read Tolstoy lol. I still probably wouldn’t understand their mentality even then lol. I just shake my head…

I wouldn’t discount Nasri’s skills on the basis of what we’ve seen so far. I know that sounds daft, but I suggest it’s age and confidence. Nasri probably doesn’t feel it’s his team yet b/c Cesc and Arshavin and maybe even Rosicky squeeze him out, mentally. I am always surprised how much footballers respect hierarchy and reputation, even if Nasri did take TH14s seat on the bus. Once.

Same perhaps for Mannone. Maybe when he’s 26 or 27 — a proper man, just about — he’ll command his box better? That was the difference for Rooney. He didn’t respect reputations and burst on the scene. Also physical maturity, but the mental stuff that comes with rising up the hierarchy really matters too, as I am sure you know.

Donovan, I agree with you on Nasri. I think he felt like ‘the man’ at Marseille, but at Arsenal with the likes of Cesc, Arshavin and RVP around he looks a bit inhibited at times. As if he feels he shouldn’t try things or take risks, just play it safe and leave it to those players who he feels inferior to, weave their magic.

But whenever he’s asked to take on more responsibility (like against Porto, when Cesc and RVP were both injured), Nasri has usually delivered. He’s a confidence player I think, someone who needs to be told how good they are and be made to feel an important player in order to play with freedom.

I dont think nasri is a premiership player.

he hardly goes past players and when he doesn he seems to run out of pace and get bullied off the ball.

When he runs with the ball it doesnt shrug off challenges like the way walcott, arshavin can.

why do you think so? do you remember the 2 goals that he scored against man-u and the one against porto in the champions league last year. like all players at a young age, he is inconsistent and injuries have not helped. we have been spoiled by the brilliance of cesc who from a young age has delivered. nasri will shine too in time.

To say nasri doesn’t struggle off challenges like Walcott is absolutely ridiculous. Walcott gets bullied off the ball, if anything nasri is the hardest player to tackle in the 1st team squad his upper body strength is amazing for his size. Also the link up play between cesc and nasri was amazing at times last year why people don’t seem to rate him is beyond me. His play is not just about his dribbling his passing intelligence is quality. Watch this year he will prove you all wrong. Nasri is a class above in my eyes our best creative player after cesc.

Samir Nasri hasnt been great in my opinion. People says hes this brilliant dribbler, playmaker.

I have hardly ever seen him go past players, showed some vision.

All i have seen him do is on the left wing or central midfield cut into his right foot and pass the ball to someone else.

The guy doesnt suit our play or system. Look i hope i am proved wrong this season but he just doesnt have the physical attributes in my opinion to play in the premiership.

All I Need 2 Say 2 Any 1 Who Does Not Believe In Arsenal Is
    1st Team:
    Szczesny
    Sagna – Koscielny – Vemalean – Clichy
    Fabregas – Song – Nasri
    VanPersie – Chamakh – Arshavin

    2nd Team:
    Mannone(Fabianski)
    Eboue – Djourou – Nordtveit – Gibbs(Traore)
    Wilshere – Denilson – Diaby(Ramsey)
    Walcot – Bendtner – Vela

    3rd Team:
    James.Shea
    Eastmond – Bartley – Miquel – Botelho(Cruise)
    Coquelin(Henderson) – Frimpong – Lansbury(Randall)
    J.E.Thomas(W.Silva) – Simpson(Sunu) – Barazite(Watt)

And to @John its not that Nasri is not good enuf, but the reason he performs better when Fabregas is not on the pitch is because Wenger uses him on the wing when Fabregas plays, while in training n our pre season matches his been playing in the central role, next season i think we should drop Diaby to the bench and go wiv 2AM n 1DM in a 4-3-3 formation like Barca(Cant believe am comparing us to those player tappers):
Fabregas(Xavi) – Song(Busquetes) – Nasri(Iniesta) and am pretty sure we got enuf players for any injury

I think wilshere is a better central midfielder than nasri.

When fabregas got injured then ramsey got injured nasri couldnt perform even though he was playing in his best position for 10 games.

Hes the reason why we dropped off the title race he showed no creativity, guile, ability to win a game.

I just wished at that time aaron ramsey was fit because he would have done a much better job than nasri in central midfield

Honestly I appreciate your opinion but to say Ramsey or Wiltshire are better than nasri in cm is nonsense. Nasri is appreciated by wenger for the brilliant all round player he is; strong in the tackle, great dribbled, good finisher, great vision and he has a amazingly clever passing ability and a ability to unlock defenses. I remember one of the goals he set up for frabregas last where he played the most wonderful chip over the top for cesc, one of many. He is our second best midfielder in my eyes as much as I love song and he will prove you wrong.

I would like to see better efficiency from Nas between forward movement off-the-ball and coming towards the ball along with the fullback marking him into sometimes already congested area. In addition to that, Nas needs to also maintain equilibrium between dribbling on the outside and inside of the fullback to cross or play through-balls.

IMO Nasri will take over from fabregas the season after next when cesc leaves =l.

Nasri is quality and given another season or 2 will be world class, you see it in some games already, i.e Porto when he ran the show. GIven another couple of seasons he will be a lot more consistent.

The thing is he’s been playing out of position since he signed, and thats simply cos fabregas is one of the top 3 midfielders in the world. I’d like to say top 1.. but thats just biased i think.

But once nasri gets into the centre week in week out he’ll push fabregas all the way i think. When he filled in there last season he had some very good games, but you can tell he got tired at times, and thats simply because its a complete different pressure and intensity playing CM rather than on the ‘wing’. Once he gets more games in CM you’ll see more consistency and freedom in his play, rather than when fabregas is playing and he’s a bit inhibited.

For me Nasri is class and will become top, top drawer, he just needs time and his real position!

to john, if u want an example of nasri dribble past players obviously against porto… the goal of the season, dribbles past 5 players. But i still think that he could not replace fab as the playmaker cause of he did not have great range of passing as good as fabregas, and could not setup a tempo for the team to play, whether to slow the tempo or accelerate it. He always gung-ho even when our team is leading. e.g againts porto. fortunately we win it because porto was not good enough to counter attack. btw to j.s, good work… and the fans here is intelligence than any website or arsenal blogs i’ve read so far. Sorry for the english, i’m still learning.
