Capello Suggests Gibbs & Wilshere Should Leave Arsenal

England coach Fabio Capello has hinted that Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs should be prepared to leave Arsenal on loan if they want to continue their international future.

Wilshere and Gibbs were both named in the England squad to face Hungary later this week despite not being first choice for Arsene Wenger’s first-team. Capello suggested Wilshere is only in the squad on the back of his performances during a spell with Bolton Wanderers last season, and said it is a worry that the countries most promising players aren’t regulars for their clubs.

“Yes it is a worry because players need to play. It is important to play on a regular basis because it is easier to monitor their development. Wilshere played last year at Bolton and now he’s here, the same with Joe Hart. The players need to play”

Wenger has turned down the advances of several Premier League clubs and will consider Wilshere as part of his first-team plans for the new season. However, Capello has told told Jack, Kieran and other members of the England team they should consider leaving their current employers if they’re not first choice and they wish to continue their international futures.

An article in “The People” yesterday claimed Wilshere has already told Wenger he wants to leave if isn’t a regular.

wilshere should most definately leave if he isn’t a regular. no need to make him into a new vela (gets no playing time which hampers his development greatly).

gibbs should stay though. we need cover for clichy

Why english pushing kids ahead of their time. Where is David Bentley, Muamba never earned a call up. Please it is not just about playing but playing under a good coach and with good players. Joe Cole was made to play hard with grit and now he lost his flair and his career.

England are rubbish, Cappello is struggling and all of a sudden it becomes Arsenals problem. F*** off england, F*** off Capello, Wilshire is our employee and we will do what we think is best for our club.

Capello has got a prb with arsenal, ever since arsenal have been beating the crap out of milan! I have just two words for you Capello: “F*CK OFF”…

Capello should keep his mind on the England team not start interferring with individual players and the clubs they play for saying that Wilshere and Gibbs should leave Arsenal to get regular playing time so he can pick them for the England team. He should say something about Terry, Gerard and the rest of the dead beats who were our so called best that England could provide during the World Cup and between the lot of them could only score 4 goals. Perhaps he should drop these so called players.

Capello should think more long term. Arsenal has one of the best youth systems in he world and possibly the best in the U.K. Wilshire and Gibbs need to stay to further develop their technical abilities, a team like Bolton can give playing time but they cannot transform a talent like Wilshire into one like Iniesta. Only Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool have the ability to do that. Manu has a great youth development system but they are good at the athletic side of the game. During the early days of Scholes, and Giggs manu were the best at improving he technical aspect of football. but now all their players do is run at a high tempo or give the odd driblle

I have no problem with what Capello is quoted above as saying about players needing to play. On the other hand, if he pulled them aside as reported and told them to leave Arsenal, that’s pretty much unacceptable. Arsenal should have their lawyers look into it — seems like some sort of tapping up. Or at least raise a PR stink about it. With all our good young English players, we need to lay a marker down with the FA for future relations.

On the other hand, I don’t believe for an instant that Wilshire told Wenger that he wants to leave if he doesn’t get playing time, so it’s well within reason that all this is just media crap.

I think Wenger needs to have a look at his squad thoroughly. Some players are just playing on reputation and not on form.I say players that perform well should play and players should fight for their place. So if Whilshere and Gibbs show that they are good enough and fit enough then why should age stop them from being in Arsenal’s first team ? Also Capello should mind his own buisness after a disgraceful World Cup.

If everybody thinks this way there will be no squad players left for any clubs. Arsenal do not give a crap about how Capello thinks our players should be doing. We do what’s best for our players and the club.

the players have a contract with Arsenal so Arsenal will decide if they go on loan or not. wenger wants wilshere so he is not leaving on loan. Capello can go fuck himself if thats not good enough for him. He is putting the cart before the horse a bit. Wenger has been watching wilshere’s development closely and has been looking after him and his injuries. Capello is suggesting Arsenal dont care about him and dont rate him, which is bullshit.

I think Jack can put serious pressure on Arshivan for the left side of the 4-3-3 and should be playing most games even if he doesnt start.

I’m not impressed with Arsihvan he has a attidue problem and I think he should have been sold during the summer. Great abillity but his head is not right and he lack of workrate is not good for the team.

Jack mayabe is not a skillful yet but he aint no slouch and he gives 110% every game.

I think Capello should really think about the detrimental effect his comments can have on clubs. I would be amazed if these comments are true (including Jack Wilshere’s wanting away). He should wait his turn. Gradually Rosisky would age and play sparingly and becoming more of an impact sub. Wilshere should be patient. I know it is hard when you have talent but he simply has to be patient. It is a virtue that would not hurt him and in the long run would serve him will

Wenger is the boss, and he already saw last season that Gibbs had earned his place. Had it not been for the injury he got (Capello seems oblivious to that), he would have helped put Arsenal at the helm of the league. Wilshere was out on loan already last season, and now Wenger thinks his time has come to play for us, so Capello, do some reading again. What happened to England (the lot was and is very talented, but a bit spoilt) was unfortunate, but Capello should concentrate on building his team, not destroying reputable clubs, like Arsenal is.

Wilshere and Gibbs will be regulars next year in my opinion. Last year due to injuries Ramsey was actually playing week in week out, and now that he’s injured long term, it opens a space for Wilshere. And on Saturday Wenger actually played Gibbs in midfield so that could signal a chance for him to get game time even when Clichy is fit. If Wenger wasn’t going to consider Wilshere a regular he would have already sent him to Bolton. I don’t see Arsenal allowing Wilshere to leave anyway, especially after our fight with Cesc. After all that committment to keeping Cesc here, why suddenly offload his potential replacement?

    • August 9, 2010 at 2:54 pm
      Permalink

Gibbs will be first choice LB if Clichy keeps up last season’s form and Wilshere will get games but in a variety of positions.

However, at the end of the day Arsenal pay their wages, Arsenal own their contracts and Arsenal should choose what happens to them. Far too much reverence is given to the English team when it is the clubs who have the major fan base’s.

I can’t see Capello ever being a success as the England manager. It’s not all his fault, but the quality of the players he has to choose from. I really see England being a huge force in 6-8 years time. There are quality English teenagers learning their trade from foreign managers like Wenger. Once these kids grow up they will know how to play a more continental style, not just kick it up the field and hope for the best. By my count, Arsenal has around 15 English kids under the age of 21 that have at least some International experience. That’s 15 kids learning how to become complete players. Although not a fan of the English team, I am very interested to see what their team will looke like in 2016 &2018. Imagine a team of fully developed players like Wilshere, Gibbs, Walcott, Catermole, Rodwell, Frimpong, JET, Moses, Hart, Sturridge and Wellbeck. If half of these players progress at the expected rate, England can be a top 5 contender in every competition.

  • August 9, 2010 at 2:53 pm

The reality is that Wilshere and Gibbs are good enough to start for almost every EPL team outside of the Top 4. Arsenal is in the unfortunate or fortunate position of having young players throughout the squad, so, even if a player like Gibbs is willing to wait, it’s not clear when he’ll get his chance. We want cover for Clichy but why would Gibbs want to play that role if he can get guaranteed first team experience at a “lesser” club? Clichy could be at Arsenal for the next five years. How long should he wait?

i agree with most points on here on the subject. one other point, we have to be careful with our loanees as we have to ensure our 9 from 25 ‘qualified’ players. Can’t say I’ve looked too deeply at this but would guess that Watt and Freeman already out on loan has left very few spaces for yung english guys to go on loan. odd that we seem to be told to bring young english lads through but when we become succesful at this we are then hampered by the system and the english coaches wishes?

It will neither help England nor Arsenal to pamper players. This pronouncement could push Wenger to play both players at all cost. Capello’s advise was no needed season when Wilshire was sent on loan to Bolton. If Wenger decides to retain him this time, why wouldn’t Capello wait and see how things unfold? A season is quite long and Arsenal will be involved in four competitions – The premiership, Carling cup, F. A. cup and the Champions League. Wilshire and Gibbs will surely play the Carling Cup and the F.A. cup. They will surely get some games in the Premiership. There are certain scenarios where they would get even Champions League games – at the worst, when qualification is ensured. Their demonstrated abilities in these games will make them put pressure on the stating squad. I opine therefore, that there is not even any need for this comment now. I do not think that Wenger will be afraid to use him if he performs better than Fabragas, Same goes for Gibbs and Clichy.
Capello cannot suddenly be more interested in the progress of these lads than Wenger so, this is an unnecessary comment.

Upson could ve bn a sure starter 4 England if he hadn’t felt 2 big to w8 4 Keown/Cambel 2 slow down. Capello is an idiot.

If Wilshire or Gibbs never played for a top four team then they would never have Champions league experience.

Gibbs has played a Champions league semi and Wilshire has played many times in Europe and in many cup games. Surely this experience that they have of the biggest competiton helps them.

Also we could send to a shit team like stoke or Blackburn and we would get a tottaly shit player back.
