Barazite – “I Rejected Benfica For Vitesse Deal”

Nacer Barazite has revealed he turned down a move to Portuguese giants Benfica before sealing a return to Holland with Vitesse Arnhem. The Dutch Under 21 international, surplus to requirements at Arsenal, has joined Vitesse on a season long loan with the option to buy.

Barazite saw a move to Rangers collapse last week but he had agreed on a move back to the Eredivisie with Heracles Almelo. However, cash rich Vitesse moved to seal an agreement on transfer deadline day. Nacer had a medical and completed the transfer today before telling the media about how the deal came about;

“Two days ago, Vitesse was the first team to contact me, and then it all went really quickly. I see this transfer as a great way for me to play in the spotlight. I could have gone to Heracles, but everyone knows the ambition of Vitesse, which fits well with mine.”

Nacer has the option to make the move permanent in January if both parties agree, otherwise a deal can be done next year. Benfica had also expressed an interest at a similar type of arrangement, but the 19-year-old only ever wanted to do one deal;

“Here I speak the language, for Benfica I think I would have needed to adjust. I consider the chance of playing for Vitesse to far outweigh Benfica. I am really looking forward to showing the Netherlands just who Nacer Barazite is.”

You can follow Nacer’s progress throughout the season in our regular loanees reports.

    Vitesse is a good team for him. They have a number of good young players either on loan or purchased. He’s bound to get plenty of first team chances and be part of a young, exciting side.

    It’s a shame he never made it as Ialways felt when he was younger that he was a guarantee to make the grade, I think if it wasn’t for that bad injury he got at Blackburn in the carling cup years ago then he would’ve. Still with regular first team football this boy will be a star in Holland.good luck Nacer!

    What a waste … I think he deserved to be in the side ahead of Jack Wilshere. I was really looking forward to see him play in the first team this season. He has so much talent and ability but it seems Arsenal just want to collect these youngsters from all over the world an then sell them here and there. Whats the use of buying all these boys if they are not going to be used??? This is not the first time that a young talent has gone due to lack of playing time, but I think of all of them, he was THE best. Good luck to him.

      I agree with much of this, along with Wilshere I’ve always thought of Barazite as being the most talented of the youngsters. I’m appaled by everyones indifference to him. Unlike the departure of the overhyped Fran Merida, the possible departure of Barazite makes me anxious.

    Referring to himself in third person, oh dear, someone needs to take him down a peg or two i think. In his whole time here ive seen flashes of brilliance but you have to wonder if he can substain any kind of consistency. Still, could transform into a completely different player say when hes in his mid 20s, given his talent i reckon its worth holding on to him for a couple more years while letting him out on loan

      err….. he’s not really refering to himself in the person is he. (I see, I speak, I consider) That seems to me like he’s in the first person there. All he does is say at the end that he wants the dutch to know who Nacer Barazite is. Your comments are not nice and not really justified. You make him seem like he’s rather arrogant when he appears to be nothing of the sort.

    he is only 19 years old and we have already given up on him. This is the bad thing with wenger’s youth policy.
    we shouldn’t decide on youngsters while they are still progressing , acting like 19 is an age that you can see who is gonna make it or not. We should wait until they are 21-22 before the assessment is made.

    just look at Pedro in barca. Turned 22 before he got his first chance.

    I think the 25 man rule has played a part in this, we can no longer afford to hold on to players who are late developers, don’t have the right mental attitude or refuse to sign long contracts. Not all reserve players will make it and tough decisions have to be made. I think Arsenal are doing the right thing by the players and club with the way they have handled Traore, Simpson and Barazite. Its survival of the fittest and stops complacency amongst the younger players.

      Bollocks my dear chap, under 21 does not count against the 25 and Barazite is also considered to be home grown.

      Actually he would still have to be registered as one of the 25 in a couple of years, even if he is counted as home grown. I can’t think whose place he would challenge on the team. He is not even close to being around the first team (he wasn’t taken to Austria) and I don’t think he wanted to extend his contract, so to avoid another Merida situation, I support the way things have been handled.

      I agree Champion,

      In a few years, what will happen when players like Walcott, Gibbs, JET, Wilshere, Vela, Ramsey, Watt, Chesney, Norveidt, Botelho, etc. will be 22-24 years old?

      Wenger will be forced to offload players that he otherwise would have preferred to have held on to, and like you said, it is already happening with the likes of Simpson, Traore, and Barazite.

      On the positive side, this silly rule is affecting Totteham worse than us.

      Front 3 i think will be Henderson, Vela, JET

      Mid 3 i think will be Eastmond, Denilson, Wilshere

      Defence – Gibbs, Djourou, Experience DF, Nordtveit

    I do not think Arsenal gave up on him. He has thought for awhile he was ready for the first team. From interviews and other articles he thinks highly of himself (not a bad thing just ask Nick) I think it it much more like Bentley. He thinks he is ready Arsene does not the kid wants to play and poof hello Holland I hope it does not destroy his young career and like what was said above he could come back ready…..I doubt that though good luck to him.

    Really like this kid……imo he’s got more talent than Wilshere. However a lot of posters are saying he lacks the right attitude & consistency. I really hope he shines at Vitesse. I want him to succeed at Arsenal. He’s also very versatile.
