Wellington Silva is on the cusp of completing his dream move to Arsenal. The Brazilian is due back in London later this month and after being pushed out of the Fluminense side, Silva is spending his time playing video games containing his soon to be team mates.
The 17-year-old finds himself in an uncomfortable situation with parent club Fluminense, with coach Muricy Ramalho refusing to pick him, and telling the media ‘his head was elsewhere’. Wellington is now packing his bags ahead of the third and final adaptation period in North London, designed to give him the best chance of settling in England. However, the situation with his parent club means he leaves on a bitter note.
“Ramalho never talked to me about it. I was very sad. I always had the dream of reaching the professional level with Fluminense, everybody does. I only get the basics from him now, the “good morning” and “good afternoon”. The year was complicated, but it taught me a lot. Anyway, I’m cheering them on for the title.”
The treatment from Ramalho has left an effect on Silva, but what of his future manager, Arsene Wenger?
“He’s a great coach. He received me very well, did well in training, and he observed. He’s a coach who always talks to me and gives me confidence. Now it’s time for me to show it on the field.”
Silva now spends his days playing video games with his brother Wallace. During the interview with Globo.com, he scores a goal with Fabregas, his future captain, but he’s taking note.
“The players of this level serve as a mirror for me”
“It’s kind of funny. I’m here playing video games with them and soon there’ll be close. I had the opportunity to live it, and it’s a great feeling to be with the best in the world. I keep preparing myself to come here and be welcomed by all, I want to tell them a little of my story too.”
Wellington is due to complete his transfer in January.
Nice post J. I have a feeling this boy is going to be massive for Arsenal. Devastating pace, trickery and finishing ability.
I second that but hopefully I dont put my hope too much up, he will still need time to settle in the team
What’s gonna be the situation with this kid. Will he be able to link straight up with us or will he have to spend a lifetime in Spain first?
Is he clear with the work permit situation?
The future of Wellington Wilshire Ramsey and JET… Oh my.
Evertime I hear about him it makes me more exciting to watch him play
I am glad his manager has treated him badly. He’ll be less homesick for it and it may have toughened him up about the world of professional football (and in different ways than growing up in Rio de Janeiro).
When I think about arsen wenger must hv rate him high n maybe that is why there is no news of a new contract to arshaving I can’t wait to see him playing in midfield with the like of wilshire ramesy frimpong on the same side up front with afobe n jay emanuel Thomas
arsenal will be in a top for years to come with those players Liverpool or man u even Chelsea can’t sy the same thing
they hv to spend lot of money n the way we are running our club for years we even might hv a lot if money but speding it is another mater
am 16 n the thought of our future been bright makes me very happey
Well, I hope he will get the special talent work permission… or go straight on loan to Spain…
I feel other than a goal keeper (hopefully it is Szczesny) , this is the last piece to the puzzle if he fulfills his promise. Our midfield 3 of Song, Fab and Wilshere will be the best in the world and the biggest thing is, they don’t give the ball away very often. We have the world class striker coming through in Carlos Vela. We have the efficient link up player that seems to finish overtime he gets a chance with Nasri and Now we add the spark. You can not always pass teams to death… you need your Messi to make the magic happen. I am not saying he will be Messi but he will definitely add that quality winger that we lack. All that added with the great depth of players like Ramsey, Diaby, Bendtner, Walcot. I feel we now have all of the pieces needed. Really really exciting times ahead.
having good players doesn’t make a great team. Arsenal still doesn’t know how to defend properly and it won’t matter how many of our players becomes world class players , if we continue to defen badly we will lnot win trophies.
also – vela probably won’t become a world class player in arsenal seeing as he is 4th choice at best
What are you talking about. They see Vela as being 4th choice? He is a young striker. RVP was not always first choice.
On defending, with better players comes better defending. Half the problem was we would lose the ball in bad positions and get caught out because of that. That was my whole point with Song, Wilshere and Fabregas…..they never seem to give the ball away. You have to understand football to know that defending is not all about defenders.
utterly disgraceful how he’s being treated by his coach. as a coach it is your duty to get the best out of your players and teach them as much possible. by ignoring him as he is he’s essentially depriving him of opportunities to improve. what if he doesnt live up to his potential at Arsenal because of this wasted experience he could be getting? i dont know how coaches like these are allowed to coach
So what is gonna happen with this guy? Is he coming straight into the 1st team or is he gonna be one of the CC/Fa cup kids or is he going straight out on loan. I say if he is good enough he is old enough to be in our 1st team.
did you find this article thanks to my link on twitter? hope you did :)
if jet dosnt make it we’re gona have the smallest team in history.
haha…he probably lost that Pro Evolution soccer match
Arsenal 3-0 Fluminense
flu wanted to keep him for another year and arsenal said no. but this is so unprofessional from the brazilians. why can’t arsenal arrange for him to start training here now till he signs in january?
It does seem like petulance from the manager, as if he’s punishing Wellington out of his anger towards Arsenal.
Wellington must be excited about starting his career with Arsenal but I find it hard to believe that he has been lazy or unprofessional during these last few months with Fluminense. It seems like he was very keen to have an impact there and break into the first team before coming to us and Ramalho has frozen him out for no reason.
He will be a New robinho, spoilt and unproductive.
show me some proof that Robinho was “unproductive”…..
WHAT ABOUT HIS WORKING PERMIT?
he will get it
This came from Yahoo today (which I believe came from his blog on Globo)
Got to feel for the kid, maybe their was a falling out?
Anyone else thinking he’s the only reason denilson is still with us, little buddy / big bro
Denilson is 22 has played over a 100 games for us so NO I dont think Denilson is here just to babysit Silva
I am excited to see Silva playing and wearing the Arsenal colours as all Arsenal fans are. However, I will say to him, seek to mend all bridges before he departs. Still maintain your respect for your current coach, and prove each day to be a willing student of the game.
It’s only a few months before your BIG DREAM move. Make certain you leave with the respect of your current employers and team mates. You never quite know when you may have to call on them again. This small gesture will prove that your quality is not just in kicking a football, but buried deep within you. Play the Man son!
here you go people
JET against west ham
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFjaBXa3Sys
ENJOY
The JET is in excellent form at present and I would hope Arsene would take him to Man C, as an ACE card, especially as Mr. Arshavin suddenly is playing below power. Where the JET has improved most this season is in thinking while on the ball, creating and distrubing effective passes, running at and through defences and the ability to score goals with both feet.
It will be an absolute tragedy for Arsenal to ship him off to QPR. I am still not convinced they assisted Jay Simpson in his development. Experience Yes! Exile No!
I say Vela and Arshavin in Reserves and the JET and Landsbury to the first team, lets see how all four players will progress. Come on Arsene, give the youngster a go!

JET made Tomkins look a complete lemon on numerous occasions. Although Tomkins isn’t the greatest defender ever but he is one with plenty of premier league experience. He is surely ready for some premier league exposure whether it be with us or another side for a few months.
As for the JET debate, I say send him to Blackbool, as he was there last season and did a brilliant job for them.
He will come back a changed man.
People, you can not just send JET off to a club that has not asked for him lol. QPR fighting for the championship would be the best loan if a perm team does not want him.
