Video: Afobe’s Story So Far With Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town are in talks to extend Benik Afobe’s loan spell from Arsenal beyond the current December 4th deadline. Afobe has had a flying start to his career in Yorkshire and manager Lee Clark wants to extend the loan into the new year.

Arsenal had previously informed The Terriers that Benik would be required for the Under 18’s FA Youth Cup run, so an extension would be out of the question. However, after settling so quickly and impressing Clark, Huddersfield hope they can convince Arsène Wenger to sanction his stay.

You can view video highlights of Benik’s matches with Huddersfield so far, including his goals and assist against Rotherham, by clicking here.

don’t vote unless you truly think it was the best goal. This is why fans should not get to vote. Everyone just votes for the team they like…not the best goal.

Linus Hallenius goal is the best combination of technique and finish, rather than just one of them.

      So excited about tomorrow!

Arsenal have to let Afobe extend his loan to cut his loan short just to help out the youth team is ridiculous

    Thanks J.S.,

I love this kid. The striker role is, IMO, the hardest to predict in terms of what will happen with a player, but I feel like this young man could develop into an amazing player.

He has so much in place already. Technically, he’s excellent, He’s strong and seems to have no problems with the physical side of things at pro level even as a 17 year old.

Like many young forwards though, he still needs to sharpen his eye for goal. Composure in front of goal is one of the biggest intangibles for young strikers. At the moment he scores them in bucket loads but the number of chances gets lesser and lesser as he steps up in class. If he continues to improve his finishing, he could become a first team striker at the club.

BTW J.S., do you think the Bayern rumors recently circulated about B52 are serious? I think Bayern are just throwing some bait out there to see if Bendtner bites. I hope he doesn’t I want him to stay at the club and fight it out with Chamakh.

Bendtner isnt going anywhere. RVP can never be relied upon and chamak is just having a good run, b52 will get plenty of playing time this season and he will again be a happy boy
Rosicky said it best when asked about Bendtner, He’s been injured for a long time and wenger is just protecting him.
      He’s not going anywhere

What a legend Rosicky is :worship:

      Andrew,

Totally agree about Rosicky. He is a secretly one of, if not, my favorite player at the club. Great player and an exceleent person. I know this can be said of most of our team but I’ve followed ‘little mozart’ since his very early days at Dortmund. He bossed the entire Budesliga for a few seasons.

I think he is a key player for us because he is brilliant technically, but also so smart about the flow of a match. He is great at bringing a directness to our play that is still complemented by very high degree of technique and vision.

      Love him!

I kind of have to agree with John on this Afobe issue, (which i never do). He is not an poor player but i dont see anything special in him. For me he is in the mould off Bent. You’ll probably say he scores buckets loads of goals but you need to have more than that at arsenal. He’ll make it to the top but i dont think at arsenal – Just my opinion

As john has mentioned several times, i just dont think he is technical enough. You may say so what but thats a big facet at arsenal, you need that. Apart from his finishing which is very good, everything else is just ok.

I didnt see any point in getting in an argument with Phillips

but the video shows how good his link up play is, he can wriggle past players, his positioning was spot on when the cross came in, he had strength to hold the ball up and the finishing was impressive to say the least

even the assist showed his awareness and showed his team work, he could have tried to blast that in the back of the net but he looked up and saw a player coming in and just laid it in front of him for an easy goal

and all this from a 17 yr old kid in his first loan spell, you really cant ask for more.
He’s scoring goals for his club, he’s scoring goal for england u19 and some people think that he’s not arsenal quality

phillip r u nuts?..hes 17 and u can already see in the brief highlights that he has technique..as for questioning wether hes technically good enough for arsenal..can i mention that bendtner and chamakh r hardly blessed for technical ability…centre forwards dont rely on that benik has pace, skill and strengh(considering age) with experience he will learn loads

Thank you! I was going to say something very similar, and also mention Walcott, another Arsenal player whose technique is not particularly high.

      1. Perfect technique is not a strict requirement to be an Arsenal player.

      2. A player’s technical ability does not stop improving from a certain age.

If you can’t see past Afobe’s technique (which can still improve massively) and recognise his other fantastic qualities – his intelligence, awareness, speed, strength, finishing, etc. – then you’re the one with the problem, not Afobe.

As i said this is just my own opinion. I could be wrong but I’ve seen many better player than Afobe at his in the same position, saivet and coustigos to name a couple as i’m sure you’ll ask for them

I completely agree that Afobe’s technique is not up to the same level of our most technically gifted youngsters – Wilshere, Aneke and a few others. You would have to be blind not to notice the difference between the two.

What I don’t understand, or agree with, is that this imperfect technique signifies an immediate death knell for Afobe’s chances of being an Arsenal first-team player. Technique is an important ingredient for a top-level player (perhaps even the most important) and especially so at Arsenal, but it’s not the only ingredient. But some people seem to treat it that way; if a youngster’s technique isn’t near-perfect then that’s it – he’s got no chance.

If that were true why was Eastmond, one of the least technical players from the 08/09 youth side, given a start in the first-team before Wilshere, Lansbury, JET, and others with superior technique? Obviously Wenger values other aspects of a young player’s game – for him, technique is not the be-all and end-all that some of the commenters here might believe.

And to already rule out Afobe ever ‘making it’ you also have to make a huge, and in my opinion ludicrous, assumption – namely that at 17 years old his technique will no longer improve.

You only have to look at how Song has developed since he arrived at the age of 18 to see that this is utterly wrong. Think of the technical improvements Song has made since that time – first touch, close control, dribbling, weight of passing, etc. Every facet of the way he uses the ball has improved.

So please, let’s stop dismissing Afobe (or Eastmond, or any other young player) purely on less than perfect technique. That is a very simplistic way of looking at it and there are so many other factors that determine a player’s future, of which technique is just one.

I agree with you on the whole technique of a 17 year old thing. He already comes with the physical attributes and the goal scoring yet people are complaining about his technique like that can not improve.

I don’t agree on the whole Eastmond comment. Yes Wenger picked him but Wenger can be wrong sometimes. Wenger’s worst trait to me is that he often leaves a weak link in the team even when it is obvious to the rest of us. Senderous, Almunia, Sylvestre, etc. Eastmond does not look an Arsenal player to me.

Also disagree on Song. I remember watching him for Charlton and you could see his technique, vision and passing. Of course it even got better over time but those where always a strong part of his game.

When Drogba arrived at chelsea at 25 years of age, his technique was far from perfect but he worked hard over the years and now his technique is excellent.Anyone who thinks technique cant be improved especially at 17 knows nothing about football.I believe in Afobe.

I don’t get all this technique issue. He clearly is a special talent because he is only 17 years old and playing that kind of style we do in this club. I expects him to be a hell of a player in 2 years time when he is only 19-20 years old and by the age of 22-23 he should be our own Rooney or Drogba.

At 22-23, he may just be England’s best out and out striker. I can’t see anyone else, around the same age, who leads me to believe otherwise. In fact, it’s between him and JET, although JET will be more of a winger coming in off the right. I believe the Arsenal coaches are really feeling him in this role – who isn’t?

I also bet that JET will end up becoming a better player than Super Mario Balotelli who reminds of Cassano. One phenomenal talent but seemingly, with something lodged firmly up their rectum! A poor attitude on a footballer is as hindering to your fortunes as Cryptonite is to Superman. Ha. I made that shit up.

Two kids who have the potential but haven’t really progressed are Delfouneso and Daniel Sturridge. Delfouneso because he has warmed the bench and played nothing but reserve football for the best part of 18 months under the tutelage of the overrated Martin O’Neill. His development has stalled because of this. Watch AW NOT make the same mistake with JET! Sturridge made a bad career move. He went for the money (greedy shit) after trying, and failing, to extort Man City. Chelsea will NEVER have enough patience for the young guns while the Russian is there.

You could put Andy Carroll, Conor Wickham and the Spurs boy, Harry Kane (who seems to be super hyped too) in the same bracket. Big strapping ST’s, with average technique who get hyped because they fit the mould of what an England striker should look like. Make of that what you will.

Welbeck is getting back on track thanks to his loan spell but he has so many things to improve still.

Robert Hall is vastly overrated. I’ve seen him a few times and he lacks composure and just isn’t anything special.

Manure kid Keane is clever and a fox in the box. Very weak and overrated right now but could be one to look out for.

Until they start focusing on developing technical players they will continue to be taught footballing lessons like the French gave them in the first half. I told everyone i was watching it with, before the game, Nasri was gonna have a field day once i saw the team sheets. He was playing in the hole and had Barry and Henderson for company. I just knew he would be too clever for them and mug them for the whole game – which he did.
