Wellington All But Completes Arsenal Move

Wellington Silva has all but completed his much anticipated move to Arsenal. The Brazilian is in England for training, but a decision has been taken for him to stay in London until he is eligible to play for the club in January.

Silva touched down in the capital earlier this month for the third and final part of a three stage adaptation period. The program has been designed to help the 17-year-old acclimatize to life in England ahead of the completion of his transfer from Fluminense in January.

However, after Wellington fell out of favour with the Rio based outfit, Arsenal have moved to protect the player. He will now train as normal with the Reserve team, but instead of returning to his home land at the end of November, the Brazil Under 17 international will remain in England.

Arsenal can complete the transfer, buying the remainder for his ownership and registering him with the Premier League, from the 6th of January. A ‘special talent’ work visa has already been granted. A return to Rio is expected at some stage in the coming month, as the youngster says his final goodbyes and collects the remainder of his possessions.

Silva is expected to play out the remainder of the season with Neil Banfield’s Reserve team. He will also be eligible to feature in the FA Youth Cup, should Steve Bould decide to use the forward.

    1) so he can play with the reserves now already?

    2) so wenger isn’t expected to use him in the first team this season? that dampens the hype around him quite a bit :(

    3) didn’t know it was possible to get a visa so much earlier than the transfer date. Awesome!

Haven’t had a chance to seem him in action yet, but he sounds like a good prospect. Look forward to seeing him, though hopefully he won’t turn out like Vela is doing :S

    What about Myiachi and Galindo?

Joss, I think you probably have missed some information about Myiachi and Galindo.

Myiachi – He is coming to Arsenal next year summer.

Galindo – Arsenal have bought him already but he is currently play for Spanish Second Division side UD Salamanca at the moment. He will return to Arsenal next year.

      Hope if that help you.

Oh no, I realised that Galindo was at Salamanca, was just wondering whether we’d have any updates =)

Didn’t know Myiachi had been confirmed though (Y).

      Thanks bud.

He can’t play with the Reserves, because he’s not registered yet. He’s here full time now, though. Can play in January when he completes he actual transfer.

Why is he not training with the first team? Who else train with the first team? Nordveit? JET? Eastmond? Lansbury?

Good stuff J. I have a feeling this boy will turn out to be the the world beater like Ronaldo was if he can manage to come to terms with the physical aspect of the EPL.

He’s Messi’s height. If he can play like Messi, then we have a world beater in our hands.

Much is hype though..he’ll need to have an impact straight away I reckon.

    Monty there aren’t any facts.

I’d expect him to potentially be involved in the FA Cup depending on who we draw, and/or possibly the league cup.

He’ll be at least as close to the first team as JET is currently, and would take the piss in the reserves in the same way too!

i think ppl are hyping him too much which will only serve to make him feel too much pressure when he does start playing for the reserves.

it takes a lot of time for players from the brazilian league (where he has even hardly played) to get used to the PL and brittish type of game.
Most likely he will not be a superhit in the first 1-2 years before he slowly starts to make an impact – just like c.ronaldo did for Man U.

It’s important we get Silva settled into life in London first, that’s why we’ve had these acclimatisation periods.

He’s obviously a sensitive kid, unlike so many arrogant young players who can pretty much go anywhere and start showing off straight away. Once Wellington is happy and settled with his life off the pitch, he will start showing his massive talent on it. Reyes could have been a tremendous player if it wasn’t for his homesickness, we need to make sure that doesn’t happen to Wellington.

    Thank you guys!

Claude – I’ve been re-tweeting Silva’s tweets in English (the interesting stuff he says, not just about his Football Manager campaign or who he’s chatting to on MSN).

Matt – Yes we did. He’ll join in July. If you Google his name, you’ll find our article on him signing.

Let’s hope Silva settles very quickly and fulfils his ambition playing for Arsenal.

The Bear welcome the young man to the UK, more so to The Arsenal new theatre of dreams.

The Bear will be watching from his vantage point.

I think Wellington can play as well as Coutinho is playing now for Inter at 18.Did u see Coutinho vs Spurs at San Siro ? Wellington is not 5ft7in like Messi. He is 2 and a half inches taller which is good. This is 176cm.He has the pace, skills and attitude to make it at the top.Vela will make it as well in the next 2 years. You just can sense/feel if a player will make it or not.Eastmond wont.Serge Gnabry will.It is as simple as that.

Why are people comparing him to messi? Some of you guys need to calm down.

Just 2 seasons ago, some of you lot where hyping vela as our saviour. Now you beg for wenger to replace vela with JET.

Gotta say I have mixed feelings about this. A 17 year old lad so far away from home seems a bit much for me. I hope he settles over here OK. Reyes was a good few years older and he was a right mama’s boy wasnt he.

Wellington will train with the reserves until Jan 6th, when he gets his permit. He will then train with the 1st team
