Arsenal To Loan Silva With Appeal A Future Option

Arsenal are ready to send Brazilian forward Wellington Silva on loan in January, although the club still plan to appeal against FIFA’s decision to reject their work permit application.

Arsène Wenger was at Wembley on Thursday to argue Arsenal’s case for a special talent work permit, as the 17-year-old is not eligible to win a conventional visa from the Home Office. The decision was passed down through the FA but the club still have the right to appeal. That could happen at any point, but it most likely to happen in the summer, where the situation will have improved.

Silva will instead be placed on the loan list; with a spell in the Spanish Segunda all but certain. If The Gunners fail to win a work permit on appeal, then they will be forced to leave Wellington in Spain for four years, until he is eligible to earn Spanish citizenship and can then move to England through the EU rules.

The appeal still looks likely of succeeding, but in a years time the situation will be better. Speaking via his Twitter page, Wellington revealed his frustration as this situation was unforeseen, saying “all things were practically right”, and “in a years time, I will be back where I belong”.

More news on a potential destination is expected shortly.

with Nasri, Arshavin, Walcott, Rosicky plus JET waiting for his chance. How many chances would he get at arsenal for the next 2 or maybe even 3 years.
I would prefer a loan deal rather than making him play in our reserve team (english club would have been a better choice ….)
If Arsenal do win the appeal next season even then he would have gone on loan so its not too much different.
I just hope its not for 3-4 years but something like 2 yrs

I agree that he probably wouldn’t get too many starts the first few seasons, but from what I have seen I think he could be a great impact player already.

Doesnt that depend on how good he really is? For all we know he could be ready to take the league by the scruff of the neck already. From what I’ve seen, I wouldnt say it is likely, but it’s not out of the question.

The thing is, if he goes to the top flight, not many La Liga clubs will give regular playing time to a 17-year-old who has a handful of games in Brazil.

also it will be wise if he is loaned to some brazilian club other than fluminese.this way he will be able to keep himself in the eye of brazilian national coaches u19 u21 whatever and this can probably boost our chances of winning the appeal

Loaning him out to a Brazilian club wouldn’t bring him any closer to a EU passport.

What about loaning him out to a club in Portugal? Just guessing but would think they have some form of passport deal with Brazil?

Going by Salamanca and their mistreatment of our players, one would think that Segunda teams wouldn’t give much playing time to 17 year old unproven talents either.

oh ok. So its the amount of games he plays rather than the duration. This situation sucks really hard. the kid was so looking forward to playing for us and now has to be shipped out to a silly league. I hope we dont have the same problem with Ryo.

Because in six months time FIFA will be less interested in trying to show the English clubs who’s boss.

I’m sure it’s no coincidence that this happens just after the papers over here have been giving FIFA a shoe-ing over the World Cup.

Also have to factor in that when a young player spends 4 years in Spain they learn to play the Spanish way. Sometimes it is impossible for them to then come back and adapt to the premier league, just look at Vela as an example.

I was going to give you the translations of what he was saying (someone already beat me to it at ashburtongrove), he was sounding REALLY upset with his tweeting, poor kid…. I really hope Arsenal do appeal.

BTW why would it be more likely to be successful in the summer? cos he is already 18 and would hopefully learnt a bit more English?

Why dont we send Wellington to Holland?

A young ronaldo went to psv and burst onto the scene.

Or a portugese league where he speaks portugese.

Id rather we send our youngsters to portugal or holland.

That’s to do with EU immigration. People are free to move within the EU.

    • December 11, 2010 at 8:29 am
      Permalink

The immigrants, people moan about are generally the ones from the EU or the illegal ones. Of all the immigrants to the UK the ones that actually obtain visas make up only 3%. 79% are immigrants from the EU and 18% of all immigrants are illegal. The reason there is so many illegal immigrants is that the rules to enter and stay are just so ridiculous, therefore, many apply for tourist visas then simply do not leave. Unfortunately, Wellington would not get away with this, whereas someone grabbing a bit of cash in hand is almost untraceable. The answer is to actually relax the immigration laws, so that less immigrants are forced to come or stay here illegally and more come here legally and be traceable.

Here is my scenario, my Wife is on a 2 year visa, is a qualified Nurse, with university degrees and has a child with me who has a British Passport. She has worked from day one in the UK and paid tax and full NI. She has been served with deportation orders, because she failed the UK for Life test (BTW i am British and have lived here all my lfe i too failed the test getting 18% less than her and i have a university education and can speak 3 languages, as can my wife), obviously she has time to appeal and for an extortionate sum can extend her current visa, but naturally wants to remain here permanently. Why am i telling you all this, because i honestly believe that many of you do not realise, how difficult it is for the “normal” people that want to live in the UK. Wellington should not be treated any different to anyone else. Special Talent my arse, my Wife has saved 3 British people’s lives since being here working as a carer in a residential home, now that is special talent, do the home office care about that? Do they Fcuk!!

how come the fa never try to poach foreign talents to play for england?
here is a promising youngster with english name, never played for his native country and will blossom under wenger.
you can’t blame fifa all the time. home office archaic rules and fa stubbonness are also to blame.
fifa are not in charge of uk work permits or british passports.

just found this on Arsenal Mania bro:

“seems arsenal.com had to put out an official story because youngguns is passing along absolutely false information. FIFA doesn’t grant work permits in Britain. They give international clearance and you just need to be over 18 and not be legally tied to another club in a FIFA member country. Think about it, how can FIFA determine who gets a visa to enter your country? It is stricly the purview of the British Home Office to grant visas. The FA determines if the player is a “special talent” and then passes that recommendation along to the Home Office which then rubber-stamps the decision. Why the FA doesn’t think he’s a special talent? Ask them. They determined Denilson and both Silva twins at united were special. Ronaldinho and Cech all over again … well not exactly because at least this time we have the player signed regardless of the FA’s decision.

FIFA’s clearance is a formality and that’s why Arsenal can talk about sending him on loan to another European club.”

Guys, I hate man utd more than anything in this world but there is something that needs clarification. Here in Brazil the story is that the Da Silva twins have a portuguese grandfather and because of that they have portuguese passport, allowing them to play in UK without needing special permission.

Also JS do you actually know that Arenal will appeal, or are you just speculating?

The fact the post says ‘seems’ at the start proves it’s just an opinion.

Arsenal.com wouldn’t just put out a statement based on an article on a website, or they’d be doing it all the time. The people at Arsenal TV already told me Arsenal are happy with the work we do. So that’s rubbish.

As for that post, he’s partly right and maybe I’ve not explained it well enough. A FIFA special talent work permit is an appeal to FIFA through the FA. Then they pass the recommendation down through the Home Office. It’s called a FIFA special talent visa as they make the case. He isn’t entitled to enter the country through the normal Home Office method.

It seems there is just some poor understanding of a very complex rule. I will see if I can get an interview with somebody at the FA to clarify all this for those who are still in the doubt.

JS, all formalities aside, you’ve pretty much laid out the rule. While it would make more sense for the FA do be doing this in conjunction with the HO, they would have no clue how to make that determination. I’m guessing FIFA passes the recommendation down through the FA since can’t go directly to the HO. That would be meddling with a sovereign nation’s immigration policies. I’m sure the FA’s involvement in this is to give this legitimacy, as in, to make sure this goes down as an internal matter.

    Jamie,
Your a King my friend, you have the best and most reliable info about our youth squad across the boards. Wellington WILL be with us next season and it’ll probably be for the best. But Jamie, do you Wellington’s preferred position? i know he played a typical 10 role for Flu but where do you think he will fit in considering our striker options? I hope this kid can play as a left winger, as Arsha is far to complacent in his current role with the team and needs to be challenged for a starting spot. This kid is gonna be a BEASTTTT and i can’t wait to see him put on a red and white arsenal shirt and step out on the emirates…..

He really does need to a club that actually need him.

He needs to stay away from Salamanca…that club is horrible and don’t treat their loanies right. Send him to Holland or Belgian to a promoted side in the top division. That way, he’ll have a chance to play and shine.

    Hiroo,
I’m wondering if his falling out with Fluminese had anything to do with this. When Wenger got assurances from FIFA it was probably under the assumption that Wellington was called up to the first team and it seemed like he was going to live up to his potential. The subsequent time on the sidelines probably changed the whole picture for FIFA. They have nothing to base their determination off of. Maybe a loan period with some PT will help his cause.
