Hi J, thanks for the coverage as always.

When can we expect this year’s update of the player profiles? I always look forward to reading them.

Coquelin’s been very impressive, he will surely go straight into the senior squad when he returns next season. That should then give Eastmond and Frimpong the opportunity to go out on loan themselves and show what they can do.

Speaking of loans, Wenger spoke about the possibility of some of our young players, particularly JET, being loaned out to Premier League sides in January. Do you have any idea who those players might and which clubs might be interested?

Yes….because if they conceded 6 goals, then surely he was to blame, and not the 10 other players on his team….

      Sorry to hear about Traore.

all pato is saying is that if Coquelin team conceded 6 goals and he played as a DM then he couldn’t have a good game
      and I agree

haven’t seen the game but I doubt any of Lorient’s defender including their DM had a good game if they conceded 6 goals

Lille are top of the table in Ligue 1 and last season scored more goals than any other team in the league including Marseille, Lyon and Bordeaux. They’re a very attacking side that scored 3 or more goals 13 times in Ligue 1 last season. Keep that in mind.

    HENRI LANSBURY’S PERFORMANCE:

Decent performance, flashes of quality and vision and great work ethic. Would like to see him and JET go on loan to Prem team in Jan.

@pato. I watched the some of Lille v Lorient match and and the 6 goals conceded didn’t bare any reference to Coquelin’s perfomance. The game was mental. It had everything. Own goals, red cards, hat tricks. At one point it looked like every shot that was hit was going in. It just happens like that some times. It had 2 of the most inform strikers in the league also bagging 5 goals between them.

Anyway to Coquelin’s assist. He picked the ball of just outside his own 18 yard box. Beat one lille player with a nice bit of skill and played a perfectly weighted 40 odd yard throughball on the deck for Kevin Gameiro (who by the way is class. The guy has arsenal writen all over him) to latch on to and spruint away from the lille defence to score. Great pass. It is hard to judge Coquulin’s performance by the result as that game had goal writen all over it right from the first minute.

I’ve seen bits a pieces of him since he went there and in the last couple of weeks he has become a more regualar starter and has been impressing with his performances. Lets be honest, he is no Claude Makalele but he is gaining experince and is getting better game by game. He has good dribbling skills and his passing is neat and tiddy. He does need to get stronger but that should come with age.

Kevin gamiero is quality reminds me of david villa.

The french league has been very good this season. PSG are doing well mathieu bodmer is returning to form and guillarme horau is scoring goals for fun. He looks like hes finally reaching his potential. Hes so powerful, strong and fast

Lansbury he needs to play central midfield.

JS i am just so baffled to why he keeps playing on the right wing?

Hes so much more better in the middle. Hes got the vision, drive, determintation, tenactiy, work rate. The kid is class i really hope hes give a chance in central midfield to show his real ability

I watched Lansbury’s match against Derby County.

He did well in the match. As JS mentioned he almost scored with a header on 7min.

He drew dangerous free kicks outside the Derby box on 7:30 and 20:05.

He also showed great strength in a challenge on 19:23.

Played a beautiful cross-field pass on 28:25, and scored a nice header that was disallowed on 30:21.

He also made a very good side-footed pass to a teammate running into space on 55:21 but the defender got there first.

He had a couple of errant passes, and tried a fancy flick that didn’t come off but none of this happened in stupid positions on the pitch.

He was made to look amateurish by a guy called Chris Commons (who, btw, was the best player on the pitch by a comfortable margin) on 70:53, but other than that wasn’t beaten when called on to defend or win tackles.

I’m not a big fan of this player because of the undue hype that surrounds him. He’s a work-horse who puts in an honest shift, and today’s performance was a true example of that. I see what AW means regarding him emulating Ray Parlour.

Still not convinced of his future at the club, but if his performance against Derby can become consistent, he could have a futre as a squad player and cup player for us.

By the way, I just read on Arsenal.com that AW has plans to find a Premier League loan deal for JET in January.

This is great news. He mentioned that he sees his development as being in the same place as Wilshire’s was last year. So he understands that sending him to the Championship would be a pointless waste, just like it would’ve been for Wilshire last year.

Not sure if it’s WBA or Wigan or maybe another team that has been struggling mightily for goals in the last 6-8 weeks. But hopefully he can loaned to a team in need of immediate fresh changes at the striker position so he can start matches right off the bat.

not good enough, injury problems could be any of these
but if this continues then arsenal should cancel the loan spell and find a club who will give him some game time. Even if it means playing a division lower.

    Greetings,

Firstly JS great site, I’m a constant reader, infrequent poster.
But I have to comment on the posts “KC” has written which tickled me, as he clearly doubts the ability of Lansbury and JET.
I don’t mean to be argumentative but i question your eye for judging talent, or perhaps more fittingly judging potential. Lansbury performances have been exceptional but erratic. When he add consistence to his game then in my humble opinion (and the opinion of the Norwich players) he will become an Arsenal Star. I’ll state my career on it. I know the Arsenal staff believes he currently purposes the ability now but they are moulding him to perform the No.10 role, which is a great ask, and shows how much faith they have in the boy. I believe he a Gerrard type player or more fittingly across between Rocky and Beckham when playing centrally behind the striker but needs more consistence (which will come with age) and that is why Wenger compare him to Mr Consistent … Ray Parlour.
And as for JET there are loads of premier league clubs in need of a player of his ability, namely and most interestingly West Ham. And reading between the lines Wenger comparison with Wilshire loan to Bolton and JET situation now is “If JET can have an end of season like Wilshire did last (i.e. save West Ham from the drop by performing well week in and week out) he will make great steps into filling his potential.” Will he do it? Can he do that?
Sorry for the long post chaps, i won’t post again for a couple of months promise.

Well, firstly what reputation are you putting on the line? Are you someone important in football?

Look, we’re all just hacks speculating about players on the team we love right. If I’m proven right, which I expect to be, it will mean nothing about your “reputation”, as far as I’m concerned.

Now regarding young Lansbury. He was mediiocre by all accounts on loan last year. He was terrible in pre-season (Connor Henderson was better), and so far he’s been solid at Norwich. Based on his current development, he’s a scrappy player who at best will be fortunate to serve us as a squad player coming on to add bite here and there.

You’ve clearly identified the problem with Lansbury. It’s actually not of his own making. It’s the fans and the fact that he’s local. People attribute more to his game than is actually there. This happens due to the desperation fans attach to his potential success. They so want to believe in a local boy that they start cheating desperately when analyzing his game.

The fact is he’s a scrapper, but his technique is about 27 light years away from ever being an Arsenal #10. To think that Lansbury has the technique to surpass Nasri, Ramsey, and Wilshere is the perfect example of this desperate “upping” of his game. It’s a shame for the fans who do it really because they are setting themselves up for disappointment by having unrealistic expectations of the boy.

You saw the same thing happen on a smaller scale when the hopelessly mediocre Luke Ayling was sold to some Div. 2 outfit.

Time will tell with young Lansbury.

Also, regarding attitude, both Lansbury and JET have exhibited attitude problems in the past. This is another example of “analysis via personal fantasy”.

But, hey, not much point in this is ther. You are in love with the player, I am skeptical about him starting regularly for the club as a midfielder (at least as long as Nasri, Ramsey, Wilshere, Diaby, Anecke, Cesc, and AW are around). We will see…

What I’d like to see is Lansbury moved to the right back spot. That’s where he has a chance at the club. We need more cover there and he doens’t have the quality for the fight in our midfield.

    KC,

Lansbury is total workhorse. We need players like him in the squad. Moreover, he is a local lad, which makes him even more valuable in the eyes of the supporters. Hype is bound to exist when one of the local boy, who has been trained at Arsenal since childhood, is on the verge of making it to the first team squad. Just for the sake of hype, you can’t undermine his talent.

Personally, I really rate him. He can easily feature for us in near future, if the changes that look probable now, take place. Also, he’s a well-behaved lad, unlike the gangsta. Lansbury for Arsenal!

    @KC,

You’re right in saying that Lansbury has a difficult task in breaking through when he has to compete with the likes of Cesc, Nasri, Wilshere and Ramsey (and they are four of the best young CM/AM you’ll find in the world, so there’s no shame in that.)

But I have to completely disagree with you when you say “his technique is about 27 light years away from ever being an Arsenal #10.” In my opinion Lansbury has superb technique, and his eye for a pass is every bit as good as the players mentioned above. When he picks up the ball in central areas around the box, he regularly delivers killer passes.

Where I think he may come up short is intelligence, I’m not sure he has the high-level awareness to control a game and dictate the tempo the way Cesc or Bergkamp can/could.

Fair enough. You know I watched the match against Derby and the truth is the kid made two passes that really caught my eye, a 40-yard cross-field pass that was dead on the money, and a outside of the boot flick to a teammate making a good run. So, yea, that match showed evidence of good passing. But I didn’t see any such evidence in the matches I saw at Watford last season. And, this pre-season his passing was shocking more often than not, so the jury is still out for me…

I want to see more of the kind of passes from Saturday. And keep in mind, thee were a few dreadful passes he made in that match as well. We will see…

lansbury isn’t anything special, but i would argue that he is no worse than lampard was at the same age.

he is a worker, and he has shown he can play alongside proper technical players like nasri and rosicky and not let them down.

i think he can emulate lampard. be a bit average until the age of 25, then by virtue of natural growth in physique and confidence, become a solid performer who drives his team.

KC please don’t take my comments too personal and i agree we are all hacks voicing our limited opinions.
But i’ll happily have a gentlemen wager with you that Lansbury will one day play the No.10 position) for Arsenal. Deal? 

And i don’t think i am bias cos Lansbury is not my favourite player but i see alot of quality within him.

And i totally agree with Leopold and also Wrenny. Lansbury is a different of player to Nasri, Ramsey, Wilshire, Diaby, Aneke, Cesc & Rocky but if Lansbury can learn to player successfully with these players (or is intelligent enough to player with these players) then Lansbury will add the extra ingredient to the Arsenal first team that can elevate the team forward.

Allright. But listen, if I accept the whole gentleman’s wager thing, I’m going to need language that’s more specific than, “will one day play the number 10 position for Arsenal.”

Lansbury is 20 now, if he’s still at the club by the time he’s 26 I think the potential for others to have moved on is very high, so he would have put himslef in position by waiting out players who I feel are far superior to him.

So I would say, yes, if Lansbury beats out Cesc, Ramsey, Wilshere, Nasri, and Diaby for the starting #10 spot within the next six years…then, yes, you are the winner of our little wager.

And, me…? Well, if he pulls it off, Lansbury will have proved me to be just as stupid as Nasri has proved the “John idiot”. And I will admit it right her on this site.

      Deal…?

It’s a bit difficult for him to play the number 10 position these days…..considering our formation doesn’t cater for it.

In a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1, he’ll be competing against song, wilshere, fab (unless he leaves), ramsey and possibly in the future coquelin.

Remember, when you make statements like “lansbury will be our future no.10”, you’re effectively saying he’ll become first choice over wilshere and ramsey. Do you honestly believe that?

I loved HL’s attitude from the video uploads on youtube. He takes hits with a bit of belligerence, but a smile overtakes him as if he can’t quite stop loving the physical aspects of football. I think he’s enjoying the game played at his current level – top of the championship. Enjoying it like a Brazilian in a pick up match on the beach. He gives it to the ref but again, you get the feeling it’s a banterish “c’mon guv you are having a laff” rather than a rooneyesque “fuck off you cunt.” Arsenal need more talkers, more English-language chummery and matery around the league. It will help the club pick up extra points no doubt.

He’s got character and a lot of time to develop and mature. I can see the 10 role b/c he’s not got enough pace to be out wide marking marauding fullbacks. Or a Lampard role, using his brain and his stamina.

All this talk about Lansbury becoming our number 10 is funny. Lansbury has a far better chance turning into a squad player in one of the 2 deeper midfield positions then the #10 role. He can be a work horse.

I think with Coquelin’s good form in defensive midfield, he should go straight back to the senior squad this transfer window.
It would provide some well-needed cover for Song, as we’ve seen that Denilson and Eastmond can’t perform the duty of a DM without Song in the lineup.
