Loanees: Mannone Returns As Bartley Scores

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

Carlos Vela was an unused substitute as West Brom beat Birmingham City 3-1.

Kyle Bartley played the full 90 minutes as Rangers beat St Mirren 1-0. Bartley started on the left of three centre backs in a back five, but it was going forward where he had his biggest impact. In the 24th minute, Kyle headed home Madjid Bougherra’s cross for what proved to be the winner.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas started and played 80 minutes for Cardiff City as they lost 2-0 to Ipswich Town. Emmanuel-Thomas turned in a typically mixed shift, but did have two powerful shots brilliantly saved by Martin Fulop. The second effort squirmed under Fulop’s arm but looped inches over the bar.

Henri Lansbury started and played 81 minutes for Norwich City as they drew 1-1 with Preston North End. Lansbury had few chances to extend his recent goal scoring run in what proved to be a scrappy game.

Sanchez Watt came off the bench with just injury time remaining as Leeds United beat Doncaster Rovers 5-2 at Elland Road. Watt replaced Max Gradel on the wing as Simon Grayson looked to pass time.

Vito Mannone played the full 90 minutes as Hull City beat Nottingham Forest 1-0. Mannone returned to the Hull team following injury, and he continued his unbeaten run in the Tigers team, claiming another clean sheet. Vito had one of his more quieter games, but did made several punches and saves as Forest looked for a late equaliser.

Craig Eastmond started and played 61 minutes for Millwall as they lost 1-0 to Watford. Eastmond was involved in the build up to Millwall’s best chance of the game, which saw Steve Morisson smash over the bar. Craig was withdrawn just after the hour mark as the Lions searched for an equaliser.

Benik Afobe came off the bench at half time as Huddersfield Town drew 1-1 with Yeovil Town. Afobe replaced Lee Novak at the break, with Town down to 10 men. He had a handful of chances to win the game in the final stages, but Stephen Henderson in the Yeovil goal saved well.

James Shea was not included in the Southampton team that beat Colchester United 2-0.

Mark Randall was an unused subsitute for Rotherham as they drew 0-0 with Barnet.

Gavin Hoyte will not play again this season after suffering medial ligament damage.

Ryo Miyaichi played the full 90 minutes on the left wing as Feyenoord beat Heerenveen 1-0. Miyaichi had one of his quietest games yet in what proved to be a physical match. The winger did his bit tracking back to defend, but saw little of the ball in attacking situations.

Francis Coquelin came off the bench to play the final 28 minutes as Lorient drew 0-0 with Nancy. Coquelin completed the match in his usual holding role berth after recent spells at right back. Gilles Sunu not included in the squad.

Armand Traoré started and played 85 minutes for Juventus as they lost 1-0 to AC Milan. Traoré was making his first start after a long standing injury, but had a poor game, with Milan consistently attacking down the right flank.

Wellington Silva was not included in the Levante team that took on Espanyol this afternoon.

Pedro Botelho played the full 90 minutes as FC Cartagena lost 2-0 to Gimnàstic. Botelho, who has enjoyed a recent winning streak at left back, returned to a position on the left of a front three. He did have one good chance to score, but sliced an effort wide of the target.

Samuel Galindo missed UD Salamanca’s 0-0 draw with Granada through injury.

after seeing Bartley play I think he’s definitely ready for our first team
Lansbury might need a PL loan next year and Afobe is a long long way away
P.S Jamie do you think COquelin needs another year or loan or can he compete for first team places next year?

Why do u guys keep on shooting down our players? Whne the players u want to replace them are playing in lower leagues and while at the club still were not ahead of those u want to replace. I think the boss must have an idea of why they are not in the squad right now. So patience please. Before when Song use to stay back in front of the back four Denilson did gr8, well up until that collapse ( still don’t know what happened) and it seems he can’t move as fast but remember him and Bendtner keeping us in the running last season. Oh how fast we forget. Anyway i guess its just human nature!! Gunners to the world!!!

Coquelin is ready to be a back up to Song in my opinion, but if he isn’t going to play at least 10 games next season, then a Premier League loan would be superb.

Jason: I watch at least two or three of the games, then use match reports from the teams official websites and then fan opinions to get a balanced mix. I retweet stuff on Twitter if people miss it, but don’t use it as a means for information because it’s not always that reliable.

Well, either he or Frimpong will be loaned out, right, and it’s certainly Frimpong given the delay to his development the injury will have had, although perhaps Denilson’s fate is intertwined with theirs? The Brazilian will either come back into form during pre-season or slowly lose ground to Le Coq. Thanks for the report, as always.

I watched the full match because i know that liverpool surely can beat manure… To be honest, it is not his best game, he rarely got the ball… he only get a few touches and when he controls the ball he tends to hold it and disposssesed by opposition players… i think no highlights of him this week, but he still played the full match though… hope he can improve for the next week match…

Afobe is missing too many chances so far in his career. Apart from his poor finishing , he has everything to become a top player. Great height(6ft) , good movement. He can hold the ball up. Very good link-up play and he can dribble past players. In general , his first touch and technical abilities are quality.I know it is early but he can be at least as good as Defoe which is not good enough for Arsenal but a good player for a top 10 team in the Premier League.

Feyenoord were pretty awful today. Game was end to end but the football was loose, poor passing and some shockers in front of goal for Herenveen. Good win for them considering, but Ryo didn’t turn up.

wellington’s loan to levante was a weird one. why would a la liga side even think about fielding a completely unproven nobody like him. he should have gone to a lower league team. hopefully he will next year so he can actually play.

i’d like vela back if possible…he’s not playing, so west brom aren’t living up to their end of the deal. and we need pace up front after losing walcott.

and if he can’t return, and he doesn’t play there, surely it’s curtains for him at arsenal?

    bartley in, squillaci out
    lansbury, coquelin in, denilson out
    botelho in, rosicky out

if that’s all the business that we do this summer, i won’t complain too much.

we could maybe do with a new young right-back.

dont stop there, whole 18 man squad out, whole 18 man squad in.

      Almunia out – Reina in
Eboue out – van der weil in
Hoyte out – de vrij in
      squillaci out – bartley in
      traore out – botelho in
      randall out – coquelin in
      denilson out – melo in
      diaby out – lansbury in
      rosicky out – emmanuel-thomas in
      sunu out – gameiro in
      arshavin out – hazard in
      fabianski out – mannone in
      brislen-hall out
      boateng out
      eastmond out
      deacon out
      watt out
      murphy out

That might look a lot but its only 6 new signings and with the 3 players we sold in the january window (nordveit, barazite, evina) reduces our stupid squad size to a more realistic quantity whilst improving the quality no end

I read a stat that vela has the best games to goals ratio in the premiership.

Not sure it means to much but it should count as a positive. If you think about it then the two mexican strikers in the prem could be goal machines.

It’s great to see Bartley thriving at Rangers. Especially when they change their formation every week!! hahahaha. I mean it must be hard playing centre-mid, then playing right centre-back, and then playing on the left of a back 3 in the centre of a back 5!!! He must already be pretty tactically sound, to be able to pull this off!!! Playing for us will seem boring to him!!! hahahaha. It won’t challenge his footballing brain enough!!! hahahaha. Just kidding. With our attacking style, our defenders will never be bored!!

I’ll be curious to see if Vela starts to get proper game time.

He scored vital goals the last few matches just to be benched for the whole game.

I know football is harsh and nobody can be expected to walk into a team but to not put a striker/attacker on that seems to of found form just boggles my mind, even if they were winning it would’ve made sense to make it a bit of a bigger lead.

I think most of us are overhyping Miyaichi a bit.

His decision making in the final third has to improve if he will ever be a starter here. I also find his style quite predictable at the moment as he nearly always out wide. He has the speed an the technique and his shooting ability seems to be good. He should be drifting inside more and trying to put the rigt backs on the wrong foot and going for goal more often imo.

I do find it remarkable how he has adjusted to the dutch league so quickly but Feyenoord have been playing some week teams in the last couple of weeks.

Thank god the boy seems to have a good attitude.

The thing is his arrival has gone hand in hand with a resurgence for Feyenoord, who were struggling in the Eredivisie.

It now seems they will be safe from relegation and it’s a good thing.

I’m not hyping Ryo too much but to go from the background he has to playing at the top level of Dutch football and already bagging a goal and assist in 5 games is impressive.

He’ll get better (hopefully) and his decision making will improve. Look at Theo, it’s only really been this season that he turned around his fairly predictable gameplan and Ryo is roughly 4 years younger than him.

JP, Ryo’s got shed loads to learn, we all agree. So did sissy Ronaldo at first. It’s his pace and close control, which can’t be taught, that is dropping jaws. Even if he’s not getting 1.5 assists per match, etc., he’s so helpful on the pitch giving his team an outlet, forcing the opposition to compensate. Gradually he’ll learn how to help the team take advantage of this compensation, which will take a few years. Can’t forget, he walked into the team never having played serious professional football before. He must feel disconnected from his team mates on and off the field, so he’s sticking to what he can do – take players on to the outside.

Bartley looks like EXACTLY the type of player Arsenal need more of, fearless in the tackle, very good passing range and what a leader that boy is!If you lot don’t rate or want him send him north please, trust me this kid is the real deal and wears his heart on his sleeve, we love him up here, Rangers fan.

I think we’ve all got big hopes for Kyle mate. The loan at Rangers has done him the world of good. If he can get a loan with guaranteed first team football in the prem next year, that would be a good move, one of the promoted sides or the likes of Blackpool.

Similar to how Djourou went to Brum for the year.
