In a week which has seen the American influence on Arsenal grow ever stronger, the club are making their final preparations for their first visit to the US in the Arsène Wenger era.
The Gunners have accepted an invite to attend one of the most prestigious youth tournaments in the world, The Dallas Cup. Arsenal will be sending an Under 19 team out to compete in the competitions show piece, the Gordon Jago SuperGroup. They kick off against the Dallas Texans on Sunday, with further fixtures against Chorrillo FC and Club Bolivar set to provide interesting challenges.
Young Guns can confirm the travelling squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers:
Emi Martínez, Sean McDermott.
Defenders:
Ignasi Miquel, Sead Hajrovic, Daniel Boateng, Elton Monterio, Martin Angha, George Brislen-Hall.
Midfielders:
Emmanuel Frimpong, Oğuzhan Özyakup, Jamie Edge, Conor Henderson, Kyle Ebecilio, Roarie Deacon, Samir Bihmoutine, Josh Rees, Callum Webb, Jordan Wynter, Alban Bunjaku.
Strikers:
Luke Freeman, Zak Ansah, Jeffrey Monakana.
Update: Aneke, Roberts, Meade and Neita all injured and replaced by Edge, Bunjaku, Bihmoutine and Monakana.
You can catch an exclusive interview with Dallas Cup Chief Executive Gordon Jago on Young Guns later this week.
Very fiting now when Kroenke bought the club lol, should hopefully be a useful experience for the young players.
JS i dont know about you but every time i watch Phil roberts he looks a really special player.
I think hes a special striker him and freeman could be a great partnership
John he reminds me a bit of Torres…
No Bunjaku at least Frimpoong is getting some game time
Are we trying to protect players who haven’t signed a professional contract with us?
Are we one of the favorites?
Is Rhys murphy older than this group i.e over 19
Yes. Frimpong is the oldest in this group and Rhys Murphy is in the age group above him. Murphy is 20.
De lineup might look dis way each player wit backup Martinez-McDermo Hajrovic-Wynter Meade-Brinslehall Frimpong- Webb Boateng- Angha Miquel-Monterio Aneke-Neita Ozyakup-Ebecilio Freeman-Ansah Henderson-Ress Deacon-Roberts
Freeman – Roberts – Ansah
Attack I guess
Frimpong – Ozzie – Henderson
although this might be interesting if Aneke plays in there over one of them
Harjovic – Boateng – Miquel – BrisbenHall
Defense
Martinez
Goalkeeper
If Brislen-Hall is being released in the summer, I don’t see the point of including him in the squad.
Also dissappointing that Bunjaku isn’t in the squad. Either way he’s not as good as we think he is or our coaches have some kind of issue with him.
Yennaris is injuried?
interesting squad, I must say. Nice to see Frimpong is included in the list, Dallas Cup could well give him some playing time under his belt after such a lengthy lay off.
Bunjaku is 16 it’s his first year in the arsenal under 18
I like the list and I can’t wait to watch them play in this matches. But why is Miquel in the squad. He’s supposed to be our only back-up to Kos and Squ.
It must mean Djourou is fit again, but it’s still a risk.
I think Bunjaku is not included in the squad because of Aneke,Ozyakup and Henderson who are all playmakers and older than him. Also, most of the players in this competition are born in 91 and 92 while Bunjaku is born in May 1994.
Bunjaku is already fast tracked to the U18.He will be with the reserves next season and the season after he might be on loan. That’s an intense shedule for the 16 year old. let him fight for his place.
Ok, I was under the impression that the new Barca “capture” , the young Jon Toral would be a part of the squad?

Why is Jamie Edge not in the squad.
Because he does not look good enough at least in this 2010-2011 season.
I like the squad and i am happy for all the player in there especially frimpong who was just coming back from injury and need game time also henderson and miquel who are interesting to watch in the fa cup, just to talk about a few among host of others but i will have love to see afobe in the squad well may be he is on loan and none of the players on loan in the squad.
Was hoping Monakana made squad great pact winger great @ crossing the ball and great attitude! Little worried about left back spot? Can wait to follow matches! Impressive squad going with Freeman to do well and of course the AFC in whole! Gunners
Pacey winger I meant!
aren’t we playing barca’s youths?
whats happened to nico yennaris? havent heard anything about him for a while, is he on the treatment table?
Will Miyaichi play for Japan U18 in this tournament?
Arsenal face Brazil Coritiba or Frankfurt Eintracht in next round(if have success in group)
Yennaris is still injured after that tackle in match against Chelsea, hopefully back soon he’s a massive talent.
My team:
Martinez
Hajrovic Boateng Miquel Meade
Henderson Frimpong Ozyakup
Aneke
Roberts Freeman
Pretty unexciting squad.
———-Martinez
Hajrovic–Boateng–Miquel–Meade
——-Frimpong—–Henderson
Ozyakup—–Aneke——-Deacon
———-Freeman
Barcelona are going to rip us apart.
Js just curious have you see Miguel toral play? Will he be like Merida/fabregas fast tracked or will he be playing for the under 18
Someone said there is more talent on the MLS youth squads than on Arsenal’s. I believe him.
szczesny back next week?
where is james shea
I think Shea could well be on the bench Sunday v Liverpool if Almunia or Sczcesney dont make it. But i have heard that Chezzer and Djourou could both be available along with Song and Sagna, that could be a real boost defensively, especially against Carroll. Suddenly looking much stronger and even the bench. Koscielny aside this would be my starting first choice X1
Sczcesney
Sagna Djourou Koscielny Clichy
Song Wilshere
Nasri Fabregas Arshavin
RVP
Bench: Lehmann Eboue Squillaci Ramsey Diaby Walcott Chamakh
Apologies for drifting off topic, but i am getting excited cos we are almost at full strength. If Fabianski & Vermaelen were fit they would be in my 18 ahead of Lehmann and Squillaci and there you would have it. No Denilson, No Squillaci, No Bendtner, No Rosicky, No Almunia.
Slightly off topic, but I was really impressed with the Former Players section, could you please do a few more as I didn’t really “get” the youth system back then.
On topic – What has happened to Jamie Edge? And do you think Philip Roberts or Freeman will be more involved in the first team next season at Arsenal or getting loaned out?
I just wonder what the ones left behind are going to do with no reserve and no u18 football? Obviously some are injured and one or 2 are over age, but its going to be a pretty quiet month for Shea, Murphy, Cruise, Yennaris, Edge, Glasgow, Campbell, Smith, Monakana, Bhimoutine, Charles-Cook, Bunjaku. JS – Do you know if any of these can still play u16 if there is any? and who are out injured till the end of the month anyway? I suppose Murphy, Cruise & Shea will step up to 1st team training and i think, Yennaris is injured anyway but can the rest still play u16?
Why are you all putting Aneke in your squads, doesn’t it say at the top he and Roberts are out injured?
Just a note for anyone who might be anywhere near Dallas this week that Arsenal are doing a few events as this is a rare US trip. More details at ArsenalAmerica http://www.arsenalamerica.com/2011/03/30/arsenal_u18_the_dallas_cup/
I don’t know much about the u18s. Who should I keep my eye on in this squad??
