Loanees: Afobe Scores As Lansbury Assists

Welcome to this weekends loanees watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

This report features action from the final day of regular English Championship, League One and Two fixtures. Those players will now return to Arsenal.

Carlos Vela came off the bench to play the final seven minutes of West Brom’s 3-1 defeat against Wolves. Vela came on wide on the left, and should have scored, only for him to hold onto the ball too long and lose it.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas came off the bench to play the final 34 minutes of Cardiff City drew 1-1 with Burnley. Emmanuel-Thomas struggled to get involved, but did have two shots late on that were blocked and cleared.

Henri Lansbury came off the bench to play the final 30 minutes as Norwich City drew 2-2 with Coventry City. Lansbury was also a substitute on Monday, when Norwich clinched promotion to the Premier League. Henri showed some neat touches against City, and provided an assist for Daniel Pacheco just 90 seconds after replacing Grant Holt.

Vito Mannone missed Hull City’s 3-0 defeat to Bristol City through injury.

Sanchez Watt came off the bench to play the final 5 minutes of Leeds United’s 2-1 win over Queens Park Rangers. Watt had little time to make an impact after coming on, but the winger did have one good chance, but he dragged it wide.

Benik Afobe started and played 74 minutes as Huddersfield Town drew 4-4 with Brentford. Afobe turned in another solid shift, and scored Town’s fourth goal, with a smart finish inside the box. Huddersfield have missed out on automatic promotion, but will go into the play offs. It’s not yet clear whether Benik will be allowed to take part.

Mark Randall was not included in the Rotherham squad that beat Torquay United 3-1.

Ryo Miyaichi was not in action this weekend as Feyenoord did not have a fixture due to the Dutch Cup Final.

Francis Coquelin started and played 74 minutes of Lorient’s 0-0 draw with Toulouse. Coquelin won a series of tough challenges and showed good energy, in a midfield battle with the much talked about Moussa Sissoko. However, the Frenchman tired in the second half and was replaced. Gilles Sunu was an unused substitute.

Armand Traoré was not in action this weekend, as Juventus play Chievo on Monday.

Wellington Silva was an unused substitute as Levante lost 3-2 to Athletic Bilbao.

Pedro Botelho played the full 90 minutes as Cartagena drew 1-1 with Ponferradina. Botelho played the whole game at left back, and despite delivering some deep crosses, there was nobody on the end of them.

Samuel Galindo was an unused substitute as UD Salamanca beat Rayo 2-1.

With no pressure, I hope that Henri will get some chance from now on.

J, why does Lansbury start his games on the benche now? Is it because of Liverpool’s Pacheco? How do you rate the Spaniard?

Henri got injured a few months ago and because Norwich kept winning, he never got his place back. He’s nearly always first off the bench, and has scored goals and got assists when he has.

It’s not really down to Pacheco, they’re quite different and even he started on the bench.

Afobe is the type of guy that Arsenal need, a proper striker who stays on the last defender and torments them. Hopefully he progresses well, could be a good product in the next couple of years

Just you wait til Wenger gets his hands on him. Before you know it, you’ll be asking “Where’s that striker who used to stay on the last defender and torment them gone?” Sad but true!

Wellington named in the bench, he is making progress lol

Afobe might need another season in a better division but he looks very promising.

    Hi Jamie,

Is there a limit on how many “special talent” visas Wenger can apply for in a transfer window. I know its 1 application per player per season, but is there a limit on how many players ?

Benik afobe is performing great and wonderful he has all the quality needed to be a top arsenal and premier league striker so keep it up benik as for coquelin he is performing well too, defending most of the well know player in france league as for lansbury he is performing good, i like his impact he either scores or assist also he will be back at arsenal for the last two games so i hope to see him get some playing time and i will like to see more of him at arsenal next session as for botelho he has done well too, he will join us next session, and i will like to see him in an arsenal shirt as for wellington and galindo they need to change team next session because they have the quality but need game time chance to prove it, as for vela need to improve in scoring goal if he will have a future at arsenal.

We still need a balanced combination of experience and youth to help develop these players. I think Lansbury, Afobe, Miyaichi, Borthelo and traore all have the quality to come back and play a significant part in next years championship challenge.

If we assume that Cesc and Clichy are difinitely off we need to replace them with straight up quality. I like Traore loads, I don’t know too much about Bortelho are there any clips of him? And by today’s showing Gibbs is Not a left back.

    On a first team not please can Wenger start splashing the cash on some quality – if he goes for youth then go and buy the following;

    Alex Chamberlain – Southampton
    Jones – Blackburn
    Olsson – Blackburn
    Cahill – Bolton

    Wishful thinking

I believe Gibbs desreves a chance with better defenders around him, his potential is amazing.

benik is good enough to play for arsenal fc, if bendtner can get games why not?
why are you guys wishing he could go on loan again? as he’s still young hopefully wenger will give him chance to be our supersub next season then he will be training with first team instead of sending out on loan all the time.
he could surprise us and shine.
current arsenal loan culture is hindering many kids progress, clubs are preparing to keep them on the bench to avoid the bill, unless they desperately needs him like westbrom are doing to vela, galindo and wellington are facing the same situation.

I strongly doubt that arsenal would send a young player out on loan that has a ‘pay as they play’ contract. I would have thought that it would be a percentage of their wage regardless of whether they play or not. the whole point about sending these players on loan is that they play 1st team football. an apperiance charge would be counter-productive and I am sure that the arsene would be thinking that too.

Anyone know much about Alban Bunjaku. Haven’t got to see much of our youth teams this year but just saw a youtube video of this kid. He looks brilliant.

Do you think Afobe will be part of the 1st team squad next season or go out on loan to another premiership side?

Look at the prices of most of those kids. Also our team is not filled with kids anymore. Most are starting to get into their primes and some are already their like Sagna and RVP.
