Wenger Hands Miyaichi First-Team Chance

Arsène Wenger has confirmed Ryo Miyaichi will battle for a place in Arsenal’s first-team next season. The Frenchman will give hand the youngster an opportunity to impress during pre-season training.

However, Ryo’s involvement would depend on the successful application of a work permit. He wouldn’t be eligible for a conventional permit, due to a lack of senior international caps, but a case for a special talent visa will be lodged in the summer.

Jamie – Is there any indication as to whether we will apply for a special talent visa for Wellington?

His special talent being what exactly? Pissing off coaches, and failing to apply himself?

The kid will never make it at Arsenal unless he seriously bucks up his ideas. He won’t be able to get a special talent visa if he never plays, and in order to play he has to tow the line and knuckle down to some hard graft. Miyaichi has done that and will reap the rewards.

Given his current track record, Silva will end up being let go by Arsenal.

Ashley Young is nailed on to join Man Utd in the summer, a deal worth around 20 mil.

It is pretty much a done deal,

By letting him compete in pre-season, Wenger will have a good chance of where Ryo is at the moment. And by knowing that, it’s easier to make a good judgement of what kind of loan club is good for him. I think Wenger is still smart enough to see that Ryo is far from ready to compete fora first team spot.

exactly right, Wenger will use pre-season to see if he is ready. Wenger: “Ryo Miyaichi will be with us in pre-season. We will see if he is ready for us and ask for a work permit. We are hugely impressed.”
from @Arsenal. Plus maybe the benefits of bringing an asian player to an asian pre-season tour maybe?

Agreed, but it clearly isn’t about marketing: the kid can play. The boss said he thought Ryo was Feyenoord’s best player this year. It makes sense to see if he can fit in with the squad and earn a place.

Ryo will have been a great buy but im not sure if he will be ready from prem yet.. a few cruching tackles could slow his development.. think he will go on loan again..

HACHET – Wellinton is going on loan next year.. ive heard it is already arranged… not sure on the club tho…

Despite all the criticism levelled at Arsene Wenger he undoubtedly has a great ability at finding future stars .Ryo looks to be a great propect with raw talent , a level head and great ethic. It may well be too early for him next season , but he certainly is one positive in a very disappointing period for Arsenal fans.Lets hope his potential is fulfilled and we see a direct pacey winger flying at defenders in the not too distant future.

I think giving him a chance in preseason is our best bet to both assess his readiness and “showcase” him should we decide he is ready for the first team. He’s got blinding pace and will be a good addition to the “squad”

hopefully he is loaned out again. Still very young, unpolished and needs to work on few things.

no need to put unnecessary pressure on him by bringing him to a team (arsenal) that is under huge scrutiny and needs proven winners at the moment.

Ryo’s time will come and he will indeed shine!

Seems like good news to me, J. I assume Arsene would like to have another pacy and direct player on the left for when Nasri is unavailable, misfiring, or has been moved into the middle to cover for an injured Fabregas, etc. It seems pretty certain that Arshavin is going now, and Ryo’s pace might be enough to make him a good impact sub in his first season, even if a Wilshere-like debut season is unlikely.

One question: If Ryo gets a permit, do you think Wellington could go to Feyenoord, where there system, preference for direct left forwards, and willingness to take a chance on talent could see him start to perform? There’s no guarantee that Wellington would settle in as well or as quickly as Ryo, but if Feyenoord wanted him, we’d have to take that offer seriously, no?

As always, great site, J. Keep it up.

The trouble is it would be seen as a waste of time because he has already spent 6 months in Spain, so would need to spend more time on loan (although that may not be a bad thing).

However, if you can only apply in the summer, then that certainly sounds like a good idea.

Ryo ought to be disappointed if he didn’t get the call up. The sooner he arrives in England the better it will be for him settling down, lets not forget he is from Japan and a tough bedding in process could be ahead.

What’s all this comment abt Ryo being young?? I thought even Hazard is 20?…so what stops Ryo from competing for the first team if he can be playing first team at Feyernwood which is not a small club? Besides,Wenger does not say he wants him as a sure starter, but wants him to compete, which will be good for us. If Arshavin leaves, Ryo and Landsbury will give Nasri and Walcott a good competition, I believe

We dont really know wht is inside Arsene’s head. you should look for another perspective. hes is given the chance for pre season which include asian tour. ryo involvement in it would be an attraction thus more money coming in. and he did say hes give the chance to impress us. we still dont see what he really capable of and this is the time for Arsene to take a closer look of him. Arsene didnt say he absolutely will be in the first team or first eleven. try to read between the lines.

I think this is great news. The fact that he is getting a chance to see what he can do amongst (no direspect intended) better players. I hope he proves himself. Short of him scoring 4 every match he will not be rushed into the first team but having him around will certainly help him get used to his permanent team mates. Also another factor is, and this prob is not true, but could the fact he comes here has a good pre season in a few televised matches and a good u-22 cup mean that the special talent visa is more likely to be issued. Just because he may get it doesnt mean he will stay at arsenal, it opens up the possibility that he could be loaned to an english club which is the best thing for Arsenal and thats the main thing, again no disrespect to Feyenoord intended. Paul Lamberts Norwich play football, if he got a visa and we loaned him there early on till Jan he’d get prem league exp and accelerate his progress. Great Great News.

Thanks again for the info Jamie.

does age really matter even if they break through early.rooney 16 years old wilshere 17 years old fabregas 16 years old walcott 16/17 years old.i think the younger you break through the better chance you have of being a world class player aka messi and ronaldo when they were 17 and 18.

It normally doesn’t and really shouldn’t, but we are an exceptional team.
Those players you mentioned (including fab!) broke into a team of mature players, where they had people to look up to, help them, guide them, integrate them, and be shielded from burden.

If he broke in now (as good as he is) with the weight and expectation weighing so heavily on this mentally frail team, he’ll have to endure too much, too soon. Too much expectation, too much hype, and little protection.

We’ve all seen how the fans turned against vela. I really don’t want them same happening to him.
Let him come into a winning team, not for him to try and make us become the winning team.

If he’s good enough, he’s good enough. I don’t care too much about “putting too much pressure on him” etc. We need as much quality as we can get.

Interesting that Ryo plays on the same side as Arshavin, who lacks work-ethic. Ryo has plenty of graft plus beats players for fun. He could put serious pressure and competition on AA23. That may, in turn, boost the Russian’s overall performance level. Win, win…

Finally, we need some skill and unpredictability on the flanks. I think Ryo Miyaichi will be an asset, never mind his age.

It has nothing to do with age but more experience. This kid has only had 1 year of professional level football. Yes he is talented and I watched him a lot this year but he was also very predictable in his game play and had some difficult times verses the better opponents. Personally at the moment, I don’t think he is ready to play premier league games but you never know with a summer of training at the highest level, where his game will go. Definitely a talent though.

I think he needs 1 more year on loan to work on his attacking threat and being able to maintain a threat for the whole 90 mins. Something theo has yet to learn

But after that year, I believe he should be given the chance to compete with the left foward position.

There is not enough genuine competition for places at arsenal, Not Good.

We need as many gifted youngsters as we can to keep our so called first teamers on their toes. Something we have lacked over recent years.

maybe i am wrong but in my opinion if ryo joins first team then arshavin has to leave. then nasri will stay on the left with ryo as his understudy during settling period coming on as sub. i dont wish arshavin to stay but if he does, he will be better for ryo to go on loan again for match fitness.

    does that make sense?

again, in my opinion arshavin leaving is good for both him and the club.i am sure back in russia he will shine again and arsenal football needs to win things we cannot afford to have senior players lacking confidence.

Great news, hope he gets a work permit and gets some playing time at the Arsenal next season. If not, send him out on loan for another season let him bulk up a bit.

On another note, we are apparently on the verge of signing Ricardo Alvarez from Velez, he’s left footed and he’s 23, can you please confirm if there is any truth in this rumour? He looks like a decent plyer with a good cross, but them are just youtube clips.

maybe arsene plans to keep him but i am so angry and wish there is a massive clearance this summer.
what an embarrassing season? we drew against leyton in the cup.
all the deadbeats, average players need to go i hope!
rosicky is still a good player but i think injuries hinder his epl career. he’ll be good maybe in germany. bendtner should be sold, not good enough. denilson bought his one way ticket when he ditched our captain, gone! almunia please leave. eboue and diaby are arsenal favourites he wont get rid of them that easily.squillaci, maybe another year in the premiership will improve him but if he leaves good luck to him.
el capitan should stay, good for wilshere if he stays at arsenal for at least another year but if he wish to leave us for barca good luck, only afraid le stingy will cash in then bring in a cheap replacement.clichy, our weak link in defense, if he doesnt sign…..sold! replacemnt? not sure about gibbs or traore and maybe botelho will settle in immediately, maybe not. but i dont care if clichy leaves.

did i make any sense? i hope so.

In my opinion it is clear that Arshavin will be let go if we can get our money back for him.
Ryo has a good chance to establish at Arsenal because we need tricky wingers and we do not have.
Arsene did try to change that by buying both Ryo and Wellington.

Ryo had indeed a very good start at Feyenoord. The public enjoyed his gesture after his first match at De Kuip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dqAJNUo8xQ) but since the match of Heerenveen – Feyenoord the backs in Holland knew how to handle him and he got less and less freedom to make his acions.

Wenger may think Ryo is the best player of Feyenoord, but i think otherwise. By far the best and most dangerous player is Gini Wijnaldum who smashed the hopes of PSV for another title defeating them with 2 goals and an assist. That was a sweet revenge for what happened at Eindhoven this season.

Wenge should buy Wijnaldum for a fair amount of money and leave Ryo at Feyenoord for another year. That would be wise!

I dont think its to soon for him to play in the first team at all if we can get a special talent permit all the better if he is as good as we all know he is it shouldnt be a problem.I think he will adapt pretty quickly to the epl.He is quick very good at dribbling while running with the ball wenger must think very highly of the young lad he is well capable.
