Frimpong Unsure Of Arsenal Future

Emmanuel Frimpong admits his future at Arsenal ‘won’t look good’ if he isn’t part of Arsenal’s first-team squad this summer. The Ghanian also confirmed interest from both Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic over a loan move.

Frimpong will return to pre-season training next month, almost a year after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage which forced him to miss the majority of the campaign. However, after a handful of matches with the Reserves and an intensive summer gym schedule, the 19-year-old is approaching peak fitness.

However, it’s not yet clear whether Arsène Wenger will include Emmanuel in his squad during the summer, and the powerful midfielder is already thinking about options elsewhere.

“It was a difficult season for me with the injury and the comeback, but I think I will need to look elsewhere if the current situation continues. There have been talks about Cardiff and Charlton Athletic, but I know I can be a regular for Arsenal if I stay clear of injury.”

“If Mr Wenger comes to me this pre-season and says ‘Emmanuel I want to give you another opportunity’ then I have to show him I can do what I did this season, but if he doesn’t, then obviously my time at Arsenal doesn’t look good.”

His push for inclusion is aided by Francis Coquelin’s international commitments, which will see him miss pre-season due to the Under 20 World Cup.

It remains to be seen whether Frimpong will get another first-team chance, but having missed almost a year out of the game, a loan spell in the Championship looks a solid option.

Am actually surprised about this report, Am in Ghana where Frimpong is for holidays, have followed almost all his interaction with most of the media houses and not for once did he hit out at being frustrated of not getting first team action..In fact he gave the impression he would bid his time and break into the 1st team. Now he is sounding frustrated, i think this report might have been twisted a bit,but that is my opinion.

That’s absurd. He was obviously primed as Song’s back-up pre-injury and it’s not like Wenger’s in for another defensive midfielder (not that I would know) but a loan spell wouldn’t hurt either

Would be a shame if he left. He looked absolute quality in last summer’s pre-season games. As you say, a loan looks like a ‘solid option’.

Perhaps it’s just the voice of frustration. So many months out while your colleagues like JW are progressing must be very demoralising.

      Nice Use Of Caps.

What, in the name of Thierry, are you on about? Frimpong is quality, and but for the serious injury he picked up at the start of last season he’d have played in a fair few games this season. Clearout starting with him? Clear off fella, the door is over there —–>

You Do Realize That Not All Words Have To Start With A Capital Letter, Right?

Seriously, though. Wenger’s spent so much time bringing him through? He’s barely played for us! Wenger’s spent NO time bringing him through. He’s played youth, reserves, and ONE preseason. Wenger is only just now thinking about bringing him through.

Also, I feel this is one of those quotes where the player is just trying to be honest and reasonable. Basically, all he is saying is: “I’d like to play as much as possible. If I don’t play as much as possible, I won’t be happy. Eventually I’ll have to go somewhere where they think I am good enough to play.” His youth makes it sound like he is getting too far ahead of him, but any player of any age should want to play, and if there isn’t room in the first team squad (25 players, many of whom only play rarely) then he’s right to think that the club don’t rate his as one of the 25 best players. He’d be wrong to demand playing time, but its quite normal to think about his progression in these terms, even if it doesn’t look great when put down on paper.

Exactly the type of attitude I despise within Arsenal FC, How about saying you are grateful to the club for helping you through your rehabilitation and are ready to fight for a spot in the first team.

Too many of our players have this attitude that they deserve a first team place or even a trophy and lack the work ethic to achieve it.

What he said was changed in this report. Frimpong cleared it up himself

He was injured for the whole of last season, what the hell is he complaining about? Unless he’s been told by AW he has no future at the club, which is unlikely, he needs to STFU.

This is one of the problems with young players. They want everything now, now, now. Sorry Frimpong, you have to prove that you can play and do well in games that actually matter, not just the Emirates Cup.

I don’t know whether our players go through media training so they know what to say and what not to say to the media but I am so sick of the faux pas’ they keep making. Diaby telling the world he wears a Spurs shirt; Sagna saying Cesc wants to leave; Nasri batting his eyelashes at Man Utd; now Frimoping. They are horrendously inpet when it comes to talking to the media and the club needs to correct it ASAP. It’s either that or they are all stupid.

Or perhaps the media is really good at taking words out of context so they can turn it into a story and trick the reader into thinking this way. Nasri will extend, I never doubted that for a minute. Don’t let the media fool you. They will do whatever they can, like pulling an old interview with Rio out to make it look like he is urging Nasri to join Man Utd rather than showing respect for an upcoming oponent as it really was. Perhaps Diaby got the Spurs shirt as a joke from a friend and now uses it to clean his toilet. :)

Also, I don’t believe the words are being twisted here, but people are probably looking into this too much. To me it sounds just like he is stating a fact and being realistic. He does not seem to feel he is entitled or guarenteed to be an Arsenal star and realizes if he doesn’t even get a chance this summer again, he has possibly missed his opportunity due to the injury. Just sounds like a kid with a good head on his shoulders who can admit the reality of the situation. Hope he makes it. Would love to see him and Jack to continue to develop a wonderful partnership.

It’s more a case of some fans being horrendously inept at recognising a BS article and ‘quotes’ when they see one. If you fall for it then it’s your fault.

Sagna has confirmed that he didn’t say any of that nonsense printed, he would be fined by the club for going against the club’s official position on Cesc.

How did The Sun get an interview with Diaby when he must be on his holidays? And it’s The Sun for goodness’ sake!

And it’s now been confirmed that Frimpong’s words have been twisted and manipulated too.

      Don’t believe everything you read.

I don’t understand this youngsters, why they are so in rush to break into the team some players in others teams stay till the age of 23-24 to have their first appearance in the team while our players once they reach the age of 18 they think themselves they are ready to break into the team.

Mostly because Arsenal give youth a chance these 19-20 year olds expect to get some games. Frimpong would have played quite a bit last season had he been fit he looked excellent in pre season.A loan move could certainly be good for him at a premiership club as that is his level. Players like Frimpong are who we need local lads raised in north london he grew seeing Adams Vieira Henry Pires Petit etc. that leaves an impression for life hope he makes it at Arsenal

The least he deserves is a chance in preseason to show he is fully recovered from his injury. I was majorly impressed last summer, despite it only being preseason an all. He freely admits he’s not the most technically gifted, but he just breaks up play then plays it simple every time. He also makes all the right noises on Twitter about being a true fan, and his love of kicking opponents up in the air, which we desperately need. A 6 month loan in the Championship wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world tho, Ramsey did it after all

Average? Didn’t look average when I saw him play. Arsenal fans always quick to judge. We once said the same thing about Song. Frimpong should simply go on loan and let the manager judge after before considering getting rid of him

There’s no point bleating about not playing when he wasn’t able to thanks to an injury. If he wants to get in Arsenal’s first team, he has to step up and give it his all in every game. Denilson got plenty of games and much of the time looked like he couldn’t be bothered.

this is a major problem with our youth structure. The kids expect to reach the first team too early.

calm down son, you’re only 19. You won’t be in your prime before 5-6 years. There’s plenty of time to reach the first team even if you aren’t included this summer.

Gooby, shut your gob! Can’t you read? Its obviously sensationalised stuff as there’s not enough news and journos are bored.

Frimpong is actually a lovely chap, knows he needs to fight for his place and loves the club to bits.

Watched him in pre-season and the way he was bossing midfield makes me wonder what would’ve happened if he’d stayed injury-free…

Lets hope he shines this coming season and lets show some support damn it…

I don’t know how good he is. He looked good in friendlies, but that can be deceiving. That said, I definitely think he deserves some chances to prove himself in tougher games. Coquelin and lansbury, having done well on loan this year, also deserve their chances, so it’s difficult to chose between them.
I’m positive that frimpong will get some chances in preseason, and I doubt we will be signing anyone new in midfield, so I don’t think he has much to worry about at this point. Perhaps all 3 (frimpong, coquelin & lansbury) have an opportunity to play a role next season, and, while all of them have that high workrate which sometimes appears to be missing, each of them has different qualities to bring to the squad. It will be interesting to see how these three players develop.

Some of these players need to just relax. Defensive mids and center backs can have up until like 23 to prove their worth at a big club. These positions are ones that you definitely get better with experience and at a young age, players often don’t read the game well enough or are not able to deal with the pressures that go with these positions. If Bartley and Frimpong put there heads down and just continue to improve, the will get their chance to shine. If the jump ship, it has been proven often that the careers of former gunners do not tend to work out perfectly.

I don’t believe for one second he complained about not playing and saying he’d leave if he doesn’t get chances next season,I’m sure realistically he’ll be hoping for a loan to a good club like jack wilshere did, that’s how it should be for all the young players coming through,it speeds up their progression, the only youngsters that should be considered for first team duty this season are henri lansbury and kyle bartley because they’ve done their time out on
loan and deserve the rewards that come with it,the coquelins, jets, watts of this world need another year, patience is a virtue and if their not patient enough to wait at least another year then move over and let someone else have the opportunity,we want hungry players that’ll do anything to play for arsenal.

Frimpong is a little overrated anyway. He’s a smaller Muamba. He won’t make it here unless he makes great strides. He’ll be loaned. Coquelin is a much better prospect and I think he’ll be a great backup for Song. Bummer he’s off with France during our pre-season. Might kill his chances maybe for the first half of the season. Eastmond is not good enough and will be sold. We’ll probably see more of Diaby and Ramsey playing deeper in midfield. Best case scenario, we sign a def mid.

time for me to lash out our youngster. I hate to hear them moning about lack of oppurnity and blah…blah…and then want to move on, fxxk off. The thing is when they were given the oppurnity they always just give it slip away without showing the dedication, i have seen enough. Like diaby, denilson, randal and etc..the commitmment wasnt there, these type of player have always given the manager a faith gone down situation. And as always that dam old man always take the blame, and once again giving the moaning bratt chances after chances to screw it around…listen kid, as a fan we have enough with these “kids faith stuff” we already given these chance as a fan, rarely it has gone to good result, instead we have to watch weak mentality player being out played by mid and lower team…

I would also happily make mannone and shea 3 and 4 keepers instead of almunia and lehman. However bringing in maik taylor or marcus hanneman not quite brad friedl but someone like that for a season could be on the cards and would not be a bad move and let 2 of our 4 keepers go on loan. we still have martinez and mcdermott for reserve duty.

That is Wenger’s fault as his blind faith in, lack of criticism when under performing & lucrative contracts to unproven players has given all players at Arsenal a sense of entitlement which has resulted in laughably Denilson wanting to leave to pursue silverware & Bendtner wanting to leave as he feels he deserves more playing time. Wenger has enabled them to feel they are hard done too & not at fault in the slightest.
