News Round Up

The majority of Arsenal’s players and staff are now away for the summer, but work is still going on behind the scenes ahead for next season. Here are some of the stories you might have missed.

Arsenal will not be opening their pre-season with the traditional run out against Barnet. The Bees confirmed today that the money spinning fixture will not be going ahead, and hinted that it is unlikely to be revived. The game has always been a way of saying ‘thanks’ for allowing the Reserves use of Underhill, but with most games now behind closed doors at the training ground, the club have felt there is no need for the friendly.

While the Barnet game won’t take place, Arsenal will be sending a Reserve and Youth XI to face Dover Athletic, Hastings and Boreham Wood. The official website is expected to confirm dates and times shortly.

In internationals, Ryo Miyaichi’s hopes of winning a work permit took another dent when he was removed from the Japan Under 22 squad. Miyaichi was initially selected for the clash against Australia, but the JFA have since updated the squad and said: “now is not the right time to include Ryo”.

Henri Lansbury, Kieran Gibbs and Ignasi Miquel were all in action for their country yesterday, while Emi Martínez was on the bench for Argentina against Wojciech Szczęsny’s Poland.

In contract news, Zak Ansah has signed professional terms, while George Brislen-Hall has signed a new one year deal following the release of Thomas Cruise. Brislen-Hall was due to leave the club in July, but has now signed on for another year, after Cruise left. The club are also set to open talks with Henri Lansbury over an extension.

It’s up to the Home Office. Fingers crossed everyone… expect to hear chants of “Cameron, let him in” during pre-season.

I’m sure that Lansbury signed a ‘long term contract’ about a year ago, surely he has 2/3 seasons to run?…

I would be surprised if there is a better player U/22 in available to Japan….but sometimes these things dont go according to talent or performance.

I cant understand JFA, surely being a star performer for a good european team is generally sufficient to get a call up to national squad or atleast to B team.

This summer is going horrible for Arsenal so far. Nasri looks closer to leaving then staying. Our under performing back ups can not shut their mouths in Bendtner and Denilson. This with Ryo. William Gallas still talking shit about us even though we finished above his team. Of course the Fabregas thing is always there. Clichy of course still be linked with a move away. Why do we let our players contracts run down to the last year? It makes no sense. We need some good news to start rolling in.

Losing you best players is not positive change. Especially when Nasri will not go for what his true value is. Having back up players constantly speaking out is not a good thing. Letting starters contracts run down is not a good thing. None of these things are good.

Suprised hes not in the Japan under 22. He must be injured he got an injury for feyenoord!

Miyaichi needs another 2 years i reckon! Dont thinki hes got the end product yet and when hes being man marked by 2 players he hasnt learnt how to deal with it yet!

    That will come in time!

If he can’t get a work permit for Arsenal then he’s not going to be eligible to play for another Premiership team.

He can’t play in England at any level without a work permit/special talent visa. So unless he gets one it will be back to Feyenoord.

letting senior players run down contracts is evidence that arsene’s been sleeping on the job but still nothing is lost, he can accept his demand just to make him sign then sell to the highest bidder at the next transfer window. i always like nasri as a player but as a person he’s always a troublemaker, cesc is more important i wish barca ignore him this summer and stay with us.
crap players slugging off arsenal fc shouldn’t bother anyone. bendtner and denilson have already been told their time is up now they are shamelessly running to the papers that they are the ones who want to leave. another evidence that wenger is been sleeping on the job, he should have dumped crap players longtime and these arrogant vermines should be grateful they had patient club like arsenal letting them wear the shirts while under performing week in week out, lets see how much chance they will get playing like that at another team.
hopefully arsene will lean from this and stop being soft, time to clear the table and move on.

It is not Wenger’s duty to negotiate contracts, all he can do is step in and make promises about playing time but not the monetary aspect.

losing cesc would be a bigger blow than nasri. maybe this time arsene will finally open his wallet and spend, maybe not.
they are players available to replace them but they wont come cheap.
imagine we lose them and buy marouane feilani and leroy fer. not as mercurial but strong fighters….. steven gerrard!!!
    kaka!!!!!!

    i wish!

this could be good if arsene plays his cards right and replace them with taller players.

Contracts are not negotiated by Wenger himself. I don’t get why people think Wenger is responsible for every single part of the club. As for letting players like Bendtner stay around. We can not afford to give up on players with potential like it is nothing and go replace them with expensive signings. That is why they get more chances then they would at the money clubs.

Think it just shows that with gibbs traore and botelho all in the squad there was little point in keeping cruise. Gbh will get a chance to nail down a longer contract as reserves left back. The other 3 will probably all be first team with gibbs and traore fighting it out for left back and botelho being cover for arshavin and nasri if he stays.

When was the last time Arsenal said to a senior player he is not good enough? I simply can’t remember. Either their contracts run down, or they are sold because they want to move on. He’s got to be more honest to the players and not act nice. It’s not our fault that Denilson has no talent at all. Which club would take Denilson now? I doubt any in the top 15 of any european league which speaks volumes on Wenger. And still, he would let Denilson see out his contract, if the player himself didn’t decide he wants to go. Brady on the other hand is very ruthless, and I must say, fair and honest to the players.

You’ll probably say I’m playing manager here, but Falcao, Cahill, Parker and Gervinho (if Nasri leaves) would IMO definitely win us the title.

dudes! the bottom line is we have problem with height in the midfield. not just for scoring from set pieces also for defending against them.
i wouldnt complain if wenger sells nasri and replaces him with marouane feilani.

why do people keep saying miyaichi is not ready for arsenal?
dont you wish he could come early, learn the language, the wheather maybe he can work hard to gain a place on the sub bench despite his age. why let another team benefit from his services.
i think its up to arsene to decide,he’s an arsenal player, as soon as he wins a work permit he should come here immediately. loan deal can turn to a nightmare just ask wellington silva.what makes you so sure feyenoord will look after him well next season?
like arsene said,he will assess in pre-season if he feels he’s ready for first team so be it.

this is ridiculous why resign a player who was due to leave.i’m a bit surprise by the release of cruise didnt he perform well during the loan stint??how many of our u18 signings will go into the reserve team straight away.i must admit that bwhile i’m intrigued by some of the out going..i’m also a bit pesimestic of who will be able to fill the void left by them especially if cesc & nasri both leave..a few players i know who can make a immediate impact are hazard & pato but as to whether wenger will spend big on them is a question but he could be frced to do so as the financial fair play rules will co0me into effect:)

I watched the Japan vs Australia game on TV and Japan didn’t impress offensively. The left attacking midfielder didn’t impress me greatly. I’d suggest the JFA have made a decision that they want a squad who will be available for all the qualifying fixtures, many of which fall on non FIFA dates next season.

Don’t rule out Ryo being added should they make it to London 2012 though. Probably a good decision for Ryo’s development as he won’t be travelling to Asia anywhere up to 12 times next season for youth internationals.

He can get another full season of European football under his belt, play in London at the 2012 games in September and debut early October 2012 with the Arsenal… or so I hope!

i think hamsik could replace nasri plus he is 6foot which gives arsenal more taller players and fabregas well i think it is impossible unless barca really want xavi out but no one else in the world at his age is any where near as good as him imo

Nasri will resign. There will be a compromise. If Barca pays 40mil+, Cesc is gone. Ryo is young and impressed in a lesser league. We need him to play another year, establish international spot on the Japanese team and then he will be ready.

Hope Arsene puts all our South American players at the same team in Spain. So Galinda and Wellington can play together. Surprised we did not sell Cruise rather than just releasing him. He reminded me of a younger Leighton Baines. Guarantee he will be playing in the EPL in a couple of years ala Matthew Upson, Seb Larsson, etc…

Would love it if we signed a big centerback(Cahill, Sahko or Vertongen), an experienced holding mid (Inler?) and a left wing so we can shuffle the team around and get Walcott up the middle more. Nasri and Arshavin are right footed. Maybe Botelho fills that spot. He is tall, athletic and likes to get forward.

For the 201/12 campaign, the Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1990.

So that now rules out Walcott, Gibbs Vela and Traoré. The first three will play for us for sure, but no problem number-wise for the 25-man squad as we offload Bentner, Denilson and perhaps Rosicky, Eboue and Squillaci.

Still, does that strenghen the squad? No, unless Lansbury plus two other 20-year olds are added. But will Wenger buy them or promote Afobe and Aneke? And where does that leave JET?

    Thoughts?
