Gervinho & Four Reserves Set For Cologne

Arsène Wenger has named four of the clubs promising youngsters in his squad to face FC Cologne this weekend. Ryo Miyaichi, Emmanuel Frimpong, Benik Afobe and Conor Henderson will all travel to Germany, along with summer signings Gervinho and Carl Jenkinson.

Afobe, as we told you earlier in the week, will travel after being pulled out of the England Under-20 squad. He’s joined by versatile midfielder Henderson in earning a first callup to the first-team during pre-season. Conor gets his chance after Henri Lansbury failed to prove his fitness in time.

Arsenal are expected to confirm the full travelling squad shortly.

I’m with you there! Why does Wenger show loyalty to appalling players like Squillaci? He has a blind spot to bad CB french defenders; Squillaci, Silvestre and Cygan.

Isn’t Bartley coming back from injury as well? He’s not being overlooked
He doesnt want to be no.5 or no.6 and if someone like Cahill comes in then that’s exactly what he’s going to be

There is definitely no truth in that. The boy is a great talent. He has great passing in him and does give excellent forward passes. He isn’t exceptional as in wilshere level, but he is a talent with a great attitude and good height. With some time in the first team he could become a great talent as well. He’s just been hampered by a few injuries, but has come back strongly since.

After reading the transfer speculations around Oxlade-Chamberlain, I was asking myself: why would Arsene spend £12m on the 17 year-old striker when he has got options (Miyaichi and Afobe and co.) in the youth ranks? I just made a quick overview of the stats of Afobe and O-C in League one and found out that Afobe was statisticaly better than him. I would understand if a few millions are paid for a young striker at this stage, but 12? For me, it wouldn’t make sense at all.

btw Miyaichi’s profile is now on the official first team page (alongside Vela, RvP and co)

      Because Oxlade-Chamberlain is:
      1) a winger not a striker liek Afobe
      2) an incredibly explosive creative player ie a guy who can break down defenses with the ball at his feet. If you look at what Arsenal is lacking, well that is it. We have this threat from only Nasri today. Fabregas can do it but not as explosively and so can be nullified man marking and deliberate rotational fouling.

I dont know wny Arsneal are mucking about. He’s young and of course there is possibility he doesnt fullfill ALL his potentila, but the upside is huge and in fact the downside relatively little.

From what I can see, this guy could be an English Ribery/Robben if he fulfills his potential. At worst with an Arsnenal education, he’ll still be at least on par with a Downing or Milner, and as he’s ENglish, that means he’s still a 20 million pound player.

Or put it another way – for all the criticism of Theo Walcott, as far as I can see if Arsenal sold him today to another premiership team, without doubt think they make a PROFIT on him because he wouldnt be a penny less than 15 million, maybe as much as 18 or so. There is NO downside here actually.

So if I were Arsenal I’d just stuff the 12 million in cash down Southamptons throat and run away laughing. I dont know why Arsenal is dicking around on this one.

Jamie – if you or one of the team has the time, and access to the information, it would be fascinating (and instructive) to know where our key reserve/loan/youth players are with their contracts.

For example I have heard it said that Lansbury is entering the last year of his. I don’t know if that is true but, if it is, I can see little incentive for him to sign a new one.

Surely the point of the youth project is that we profit from the sale of those promising players who don’t make it? It would be a source of great disappointment were he to just leave on a free having been loaned out for another year.

JET’s omission is a worry for a similar reason and i worry he’ll get very fed up and leave for nothing – but, again, I have no idea how long he is contracted for.

    Just a thought.

Like everyone else a little bit puzzled about JET, can only be that AW doesn’t trust him. A real shame because he offers something different plus some height at set plays, I can’t help thinking that he will move on for a token amount which will come back to haunt us. Clearly also AW thinks he will get a WP for Ryo as otherwise there is no point in including him. Also agree that we should forget about the Southampton kid, much more important things to spend money on than dubious potential when we are overloaded with potential in the reserves & under 18’s!

The only thing that puzzles me is that my fellow Gooners still try and come up with logical explanations as to why Wenger makes certain bogus decisions. You would think that you lot are STILL unaware that he has his obvious favourites! I swear i aint being funny but it’s so obvious, it’s painful! So did JET miss out coz he has a questionable attitude? If so, what’s Arsene expecting? A team full of pussyhole yes men? Fact is, he DOES have his favourites and the extremely average Henderson seems to be yet another in a long line of them. Lansbury failed a fitness test? Maybe so. I mean, he has only been training for about a week or two now which leaves him far behind the fitness levels of everyone else. Here’s the million dollar question though. Why was he given such an extended time off for making three subs appearances for the England under 21’s side? Did he need that much of a break? Seems to me that there’s always an excuse when it comes to certain players. Don’t believe me? Then why has Smalling already represented Manure in the States this pre-season when he took part in every single minute of England’s three group games? I implore you to find the logic in all of this please. I just get the feeling that AW doesn’t rate Henri quite as much as he would have us believe. I’m a master at reading people’s lies and AW went from being that man that i almost idolised to being one sad bastard! The joke ting is, he thinks he’s so smart that he can fool us all! Yeah, it’s worked on a lot of my fellow Gooners, but many like me, know better than that! Maybe it’s got something to do with wisdom and how it comes with age? ;)

What united do with their players is not the same thing as what we do here. And smalling might have stayed fit and trained a lot during his short break cus united told him so. Also smalling is not evern in the same position as Lansbury. Here in Arsenal we are packed with midfielders. Take a look at the players here and expect every single player to get 45 min of play… Henderson might have shown good qualities during the training so he got the chance. He might also not be far behind Lansbury as you think. In fact he might be even better. Henderson have already played 2 preseason games to prove he’s worth a chance in preseason.

Why JET isn’t with the first team though I don’t understand. But again its not all about the goals you do when you play a preseason game. Its about the attitude and overall play. There are more games to prove your worth before the season starts.

For me Henderson is a damn good player. Very very good player. Just because you rate Lansbury more than Henderson doesn’t mean Wenger needs to. He is the manager and he decide the rules. that just how it works. When you become the manager for Arsenal one day then maybe you can decide who is better than who and trust me… people will not always think you are so smart either.

Diaby is “injury prone”. What a crock of nonsense.

How exactly do you call a guy who has been on the receiving end of not one but TWO potentially career-ending tackles, “injury prone”.

First Dan Smith of sunderland kicked out of a game Diaby as blatant as day breaking his ankle in two places and putting him out for a year, then a couple years later Paul Robinson of West Brom was allowed by the ref to repeat this savaging with NO card or foul at all, luckily Diaby only missed several months.

You know what, you try taking a double ankle and tibia/fibula fracture and then you see what your recovery will be like.

I mean why on earth do you think Diaby went apesh%t on Joe Barton? Because he is a delicate injury prone flower – or because he was sick of getting kicked out of the game with NO protection from English referees?

      The answer is rather obvious.

So please spare us this “injury prone” nonsense. The guy has been simply abused repeatedly. He is NOT a shirker or injury prone in any way.

It appears no one at Arsenal have a clue of working with young people! Imagine for a moment the JET has been at the club for X number years. The only kind word they keep using about him is? He has an attitude problem.

Tell us what constitutes a bad attitude problem, is he disrespectful to his coaches and refuses to put in the work? Swearing and in the face of others? Turning up late and would not do as he is told? Staying up late, on drugs, abusing girls, drunk an dis-orderly, in and out of Court, holding the Club to ransom for pay rises!

Please explain to us Arsenal supporters and to JET, I am sure he will be enlightened by this new revelation. We are seeing this lad’s continous progress and forever hearing from about “An Attitude Problem”. Time to set the record straight!

@ TJ DA GOON I agree completley man about the favouritism, it’s been going on since Ljungberg days. Wenger for me lost the plot years ago, team selections, formations, substitutions the guy hasn’t got a fu**ing clue. I can’t believe he’s not taking JET again, he’s just scored a hat trick for f sack what’s the guy got to do. another example is when he dropped chamakh mid season to bring in van persie, but he could have easily played both. This mad mans got us playing one up front against f***ing West Ham now how can that be acceptable? One more season and that’s it, if he don’t fix this season then he’s got to go.

To add to my point earlier:

If JET is sold this summer, what more proof do u need that he has his blatant favourites! After the way he started last season, who in their right mind could begrudge him his chance? Did he even make the bench for us? Also, how comes Vela is continuously overlooked? He scored the PL goal of the season last year imho after something like 24 completed passes, which is unheard of in this league! Scores goals and links up the play well. Poaches goals (i.e. Greentown) by sniffing out the danger (something we BADLY lack, especially in tight games). He also possesses that bit of magic where he will produce something out of nothing. His style of play is perfect for Arsenal! So why doesn’t he get a look-in? Can someone honestly explain that? Why didn’t he get any more chances last season after that goal? And when i say chances, i mean REAL chances playing alongside our top, top players like how Chamakh does. Like how Squillaci does. Like how Eboue, Almunia, Denilson and Diaby have been doing for all these non-glorious years!! All these years we’ve had to put up with their shit when they were clearly not progressing at all!!! And what did we get in return? AW telling us to ‘believe’!!! Believe what mate? That over the years you have slowly lost your mind?? So much so that you openly lie and contradict yourself in the press?? A lot of the media unfairly talk rubbish about him and OUR Club but he brings it on himself sometimes! Are we still wondering what the REAL reason for all our top players wanting out is? I won’t even get started on Chamakh – biggest waste of space going! I swear down, the way this clown plays the game, you would never believe he’s 27 and has been a professional striker for the past 15 years or so! He is one of many players we currently have on our books who seriously depresses me! I can’t help but think this is how Cesc feels deep down. It’s just that, unlike me, he has to be professional about all of this and can’t have a rant like us fans. I will support whoever dons the shirt and plays with pride and passion but that doesn’t mean i can’t disagree with the manager’s decisions (something i find myself doing about almost everything he does nowadays)! I used be like so many of you lot back in the day. I used to think EVERYTHING Arsene did was correct. I used to think he was the greatest EVER!! Then he changed. Then he started chatting shit and lying so that he could protect his, and the board’s investment. I support our Club through thick and thin!!! If someone is clearly not doing their best to make AFC the best that it could possibly be (with whatever financial constraints there may be) – AS A FOOTBALL CLUB, when it is clearly their job to do so, then fuck that man!!!

First off… Vela got his chance last season in the beginning playing with the big guns but he couldn’t do it. Chamakh could. easy point. And second of all Vela got a chance to prove his class when he was in West brom… he couldn’t even take a regular spot there so how in the hell can he do it here? Very easy understanding why he didn’t get more chance in Arsenal.

JET got a chance to prove in cardiff… he didn’t quite do so. Sure brilliant in the reserves but when playing against the big boys he couldn’t do it.

How many should get a chance in the first team before we end up in the championship? You want us to give all our prospect a chance and at the same time win the big titles… do the math and you will realise that its not possible. Only a few will get that chance. Again.. how you rate a player is not what wenger might do. Of course he has favorites but you have to prove you can do it at the same time and Wenger has patience if you show him the sign like Walcott and now Ryo. Walcott is doing nothing in Arsenal in my opinion but still he gets more chance than Vela.

I think I’m done with this. people have different opinion to Wenger but Wenger will end up having right most of the time in the end. Thats what matter for me right now. I don’t always agree with him but he is doing something great for the club.

Would just like to add to your vela point. After scoring that brilliant goal after so many passes, the very next game he played if i am not mistaken was in the champions league where he scored TWO goals in that game. Please wake me up if i am dreaming here, and after that did not get to step on a blade of grass until after, i don’t know, like 3 games or so and then got something like 5 minutes. If that is chances i think it would have been best he stayed on the bench then, huh! Getting chances is like when theo walcott arrived and playing (and started too, i might add) game after game and not scoring or really adding anything to the team. First goal for arsenal came in the Carling cup finals after how many games, yeah!

And further more “Jom” playing with a championship side and playing with Arsenal’s 1st team is so many miles apart. The type and quality of the balls you get from players like Cesc, RVP, Ashavin, etc, seriously cannot be match with championship level teams and teams like west brom. Looking back at wilshere and his loan spell, yes he was good but he never looked as good as when playing for arsenal. I know the saying of quality always shows but giving enough time to show your quality does make a big difference. And if you do not believe me just ask Mr. Walcott!!

It’s not all about talent. Talent will get you so far, the rest is up to hard work and dedication. The world is full of talented players, in any given sport, that never reached their potential. Seriously, if you’re given 10-15k a week as a promising youngster, it takes discipline not to let it go to your head.

    Thanks for the enlightenment!

What young people need is adults to be upfront. It is time someone at Arsenal play the man, and sit Lansbury, The JET and Bartley down in a one to one setting and discuss their future at or away from Arsenal. Do some straight talking! if there are areas in their game they need to work on – make that very clear. If there is no future, sit down and plan with them the best possible move away from the Club. Let us not be Club best known for destroying the HOPES, DREAMS and GOALS of our Youth.

JET scored against hastings. Come on. The kid failed to impress in the Championship this spring. Last year he was Wenger´s pet and made his debut against Chelsea away. But he hasn´t respond as Wenger wanted and therefore we sell him. Follow Lansbury on twitter and you soon realise he isn´t to serious about his football that he should be. Afobe did impress during his loan with his attitude and therefore he gets a chance tomorrow. Thats fair.

Thank you, sir. I thought no one here would say something so blatantly obvious as it. The loan spell JET had with Cardiff was anything but successful. His brilliance became lost in long streaks of futility.
And of course all managers have his favourites.

I’ve never seen Afobe play & it’ll be interesting to see him tomorrow. I think we have to accept the fact that we have too many youth players available & some will be left out. Smalling being chosen for the tour is clear, he’s now their 3rd choice CB. We have too many midfielders @ d club & leaving lansbury out is not a crime. Don’t forget we still have the emirates cup to play.

The club policy of denying locally produced players 1st team chances eg lansbury jet watt and bartley over mediocre foriegn buys bendnter eboue denilson is baffling. Young players from the FA Youth cup winning team have been denied a solid chance of making a career at the club after showing the ability to play at next level. Its clear local players should consider their futures before being sidelined by dross players. The elevation of Wilshere was not planned but forced by injury to Ramsey and Wenger remained unconvinced of his qualities after his loan spell at Bolton.
Sorry to say but Wenger is like a kid in a candy shop always looking for the best sweet in the corner when overlooking sweets close to him. If we cant nurture and develop our own players then what is the point of having an academy ?
Wenger policy is bizarre since he honeytraps/steals a lorryload of foriegn talent including players from La Masia in Barcelona, with cash and promises of 1st team football over the clear talent his own academy produces. The civil war between the local academy v the scouting network has resulted in untold financial waste and inefficient buying policy. Why are there 50 players from 16 to 20 most with no chace of progressing at the club. Ironically Barca the club he fails to imitate would never cheapen their own academy by implanting average overseas players.

Maybe these guys should leave and make careers elsewhere because their future here is bleak. Good luck guys.

What’s the link you are making here. Are any of the players you mentioned left sided midfielders? Because that is what Henderson his.

If you are insinuating it has to do with Brady, well Brady works for Wenger NOT the other way around. It would serve Brady absolutely zero to serve up a player to Wenger who is not the best his academy is producing, since such a player would fail and thus make Brady look bad in Wenger’s eyes.

Besides which Wenger is no fool – he wants the best players he can get for the money, of which is has little or none to spend. If there is a youth system player who is capable of playing Wenger is obviously going to give them a chance – sometimes too many chances, as he has done with Clichy, Bendter and possibly even Gibbs.

  • July 23, 2011 at 1:37 am
    Permalink

The fact is the youth system is not working. Before Wenger started spending, he ought to have considered the home grown players, otherwise Arsenal should close the Academy. It not working!

The reason Henderson is on the plane, he has a countryman in a prime position watching his back! And for a young player to make it from the Academy he (the youngster) style of play has to be close to the Youth Director of Football.

Wenger knows more about the form of French footballers, than those brought through the ranks at Arsenal. The youth system in my opinion is a failure. For most of our lads a loan spell is purposeless, meaningless, until the club starts to plan with the club where they are sent with the youngster’s input a definite study/achievement programme. Consider Wellington last season, he did not even play one grame. Whose fault? Liam Brady, who would not get off his Fat Arse and investigate the matter!

If all our promising youth end up this way, Arsenal Youth System is a failure! Arsenal should be considering sending some of our brightest English talent to some of the best clubs in Europe on short loan spells, but only under “selected coaches”.

Until the upper management take a serious look at the entire Youth Policy – talented young players will be thrown out and the first team will be propped up with average players.

The Reserves should be competing with the second eleven for places. Iron sharpens iron!

@ Joblow I remember Vela got a fair chance in the beginning when RVP, bendtner and maybe arshavin was out. But he just couldn’t do it. Then when Chamakh and Bendtner came back he never really got the chance again. You have to take it when given. And again scoring is not everything… its depends who you score against too. How many goals did we won the game with and how many goals we conceded. Did we won or lose the game? In Arsenal you have to got everything. Overall play must be top class. Velas overall play is making out attack quite weak. Sure he score some goals but at the same time he can be the one to blame for a weak attack too and making the opposition counter attack a lot which is not good at all.

I believe Afobe with his goal scoring treat and overall play quite impressive for such a young player can be the next Wilshere. He already knows how we play and this is the only way he knows how to play too. He will need to show it straight away though. But he shows a lot of maturity already.

Its pretty amazing too see how many good young players we have in this club and us being annoyed by this local lad not given a chance ahead of this other local lad it quite amazing. I am really glad to see that we are producing top class players that are rated by so many.

Ohh and i just realise that Bartley will go out on loan again for at least 6 months cus Wenger will bring in a new CB with experience… Bartley will only get a chance next season when squillaci leave.

its amazing how so many are saying the youth system is a failure, and asking why JET isn’t there. Before last season, I was one of those who raved about him and his skill. Over time, and even watching every single one of his loan games I could possibly watch, I realized that he really wasn’t ready for the first team. Yes he could take on players, but so much of what he did was wasted, and sometimes he’d disappear for extended periods in games. Most of it had to do with his body language and he always looked unfit during games. He really needs to work on his fitness level, maybe change of diet and special fitness training to get him to that level.

Wenger has already said that Lansbury is in his first team plans, he just came back into the team and had a slight problem which has kept him from training until recently. Bartley is still recovering from a long-term injury. He’ll most likely feature for the Emirates cup.

Wenger is trying to give the FA as little reason as possible to deny a special permit for Miaychi which is why he is giving him so much game time. These games are also preparation for the champions league qualifiers hence he is keeping the team which will be playing together to get them with a good understanding till them. I am guessing after the Emirates cup, he will apply for a special talent permit for Ryo, hoping he would impress enough to validate that special talent permit grant.

The Bear will end my saying this to all the Children and Young Players at Arsenal. Keep working hard, and do not for one moment loose sight of your Goals & Dreams. Discover your own weaknesses and discover near methods to improve. Do not GIVE UP, do not QUIT! Seek to become well-rounded students of the game, and learn not to play with your feet only, but also with your minds.

All reserve players should seek to have a personal work programme, and target programme with quarterly one to one supervision with their coaches. Even when you are on loan! Vital. Plus two-supervision with the club you are on loan to.

Above all, seek to remember this – your gift (talent) will make room for you, but only if you seek to cultivate your talent.

you guys wanna complain about wenger and his favorites but your raving about players that are your favorites vela is far from good enough he has had many oppurtunitys to prove himself in the first team and on loan but he hasn t you name players based on your oppinion but whos oppinion worth more yours or the managers judging by some of the comments if you had your way with arsenal you would completely destroy the team. i had high hopes for jet but he hasn t proven himself and dont tell me he hasn t been given the oppurtunity look a wilshere ryo and ramsey they went out on loan and performed well as a result has been rewarded reserves and first team are to different ball games. and before anyone continues to crticize arsenals youth set up i ask you to look at our rivals and how many of there players are coming through the ranks its not as simple as your making out.

Many of the comments here are just too stupid to respond to – the reason kids don’t make the first team is in one sense very simple: they’re not good enough. What some people seem to have trouble with is that it’s not just about pure talent, it’s about application.

Maybe JET doesn’t even have a bad attitude – he just doesn’t have the obsessive focus needed to make the most of his talent. A kid can have a reasonably good attitude, work reasonably hard, and so-on, but that’s not enough. To reach the very top level, a player has to be 100% committed the whole time, and that’s as rare as real talent.

None of JET’s previous loan have been successful. All his loan managers have said the same things: bag of talent but drift too often in and out of games and should apply himself to the game more.
Yes Arsene Wenger has favourites, but if you work even harder then you can get into his good book. The problem is that JET does not.
If JET were to spend as much time in the gym and studying the game than he does in the night clubs of London he would be in the first team.
Remember Jay Bothroyd who got sacked as a youngster and had a decent career. A couple of years ago, when Arsenal faced Cardiff in the FA Cup he was interviewed and said that Arsene Wenger told him that he was one of the most talented of his generation but he needed to work harder to be successful and that he did not. He took him nearly ten years of trodding lower league to suddenly realise that talent alone carry you so far.
I am afraid that JET is going the same road. It may take him 10 years before fulfilling his potential.
Also his lack of stamina means that quite often he does not track back, he also struggle to finish intense 90 minutes.
In a lot of the game JET does so little it is shocking and suddenly for ten minutes he will turn it on. I think that most managers will not put up with that. They would rather a more consistent but average player over a brilliant but inconsistent one.
Moreover JET play in a position where the level required to displace the first team player ahead of him is insanely high.

Most of the game where Carlos Vela impressed, Arsenal were playing 4-4-2 and he was playings second striker in a little and large combination with Bentdner playing large.
Carlos Vela cannot play lone striker in a 4-2-3-1. He does not have physical attribute to hold the line on his own, he was also lacking the nous to fend off defenders.
Unfortunately on the left side of the attacking 3 he could not displace Nasri and our Russian midget. Nothing to be ashamed but disappointing.
This year in the friendly Arsene Wenger has experimented with him on the right of the front three coming inside on his left foot to shoot and score.
If Fabregas leaves, we may play more game in a 4-4-2. That would offer him more opportunities, however with Gervinho added to the squad he better takes his chance.

Sam I think you’ll find diaby is injury prone, how those injuries come about or whether there recurances of previous bad tackles is irrelevant,I KNOW they were bad tackles,at what point did I even suggest they were or weren’t?And yes I have suffered similar injury to diaby and yes it does bother you repeatedly even after but if someone called me injury proned now I’d accept it because I am because of it.Injury prone simply put is spending slot of time out injured and unfortunately that’s diaby,he’s just not reliable enough now and that’s the way it is,I’m more bothered about arsenal than how diabys feeling so stop hitting back at everyones comments like you’re the only person on this site that knows what he’s talking about because it’s getting boring mate.

If Chamakh makes the grade at Arsenal I will seriously doubt my ability to judge a player again, he is an average forward who would not get a kick in any of the top clubs In Europe, Wenger will play him because he got him for nothing.
He’ll play Arshavin because he paid a club record for him quoting the amount of assists to justify his inclusion he won’t quote the number of times he gives up possession or a promising moves break down when playing through the Russian.
The jury is out on Walcott due to the amount of time he’s spent on the treatment table but I get the feeling he hasn’t got the skill level required to fully use his speed.
Clubs are now wise to Mr Wenger in the transfer market, they won’t sell a player for £10 million who they value at £18 million when still has 3 years of his contract it’s the basic rule of supply and demand, he tells us he’s looking for value for money so he won’t pay over the odds but contradicts himself by allowing players to run contracts down, Clichy a £15 million player sold for £7 million.
Fabregas on the open market would fetch £50 million apparently we are asking £40 million because its Barcelona, why? If he wants to leave Barcelona should pay the market value.
Not all young players will make the grade and when they do there’s no guarantee they stay the long term, once they realise their value you have to pay the wage which they could obtain at other top clubs (within reason Mr Nasri) or risk losing them so all the effort of bringing them through the ranks is beneficial to the buying club who gets the finished article.

I think all this attitude and obsessive focus rubbish is cock rot. It seems the goal posts get shifted time and again for Jet and Watt whereas others are given a free ride and do next to nothing but pass sideways and look pretty. Its funny but both Jet and Watt have been on loan(s) when others stay comfortable in the ressies stealing a living and chilling. You have to have attitude/personality to play top class pro football unless youve got no chance. Man utd are looking after Ravel Morrisson a player with enough attitude to fill 5 changing rooms. Is Fergie getting rid of him ? Thats the main difference between him and Wenger who wants weak willed pussies to roll over and cry (Birmingham Carling cup) Management is about dealing with tough challenging characters eg Cantona not a room full of jessies. As a young white man its funny but no one on here has suggested the street/race element in this but i feel if some of these guys were from Radlett and not Hackney and spoke differently then the issue of your face not fitting wouldnt apply as much. Certain players off the field booze and girl fighting battles show more attiude than Jet. Lets be honest if Jet had done any of these things he would have been sold within days. So cut the Jet attitude bollocks its boring lazy and cheap and reflects shabbily on arsenal/bloggers.

Was Armand Traore injured? If not the fact that he was overlooked in favour of Connor Henderson who is not a left back means that his career at Arsenal is over.
IMHO this injury that could have been avoided. Connor henderson’s injury was due to him trying to overcompensate for his mistake and bad positioning. He is not a left back and I believe that he would not have injured if he had played at his normal position.
Regarding Gibbs there is no other way to describe his performance than to say he was awful. Good going forward but terrible at defending. Clichy was quite often unfairly in my opinion targeted as a weak point in Arsenal defense especially under high ball, I suspect that Gibbs will be even more targeted by our opponents.
The terrible own goal aside, Jenkinson grew into the game. At least we seem to have a full back who can cross and especially not hit the first defender.
