Arsenal Complete Samuel Galindo Signing

Samuel Galindo will become an Arsenal player at midnight tonight. The Bolivian youngster has penned a four-year-contract with the Gunners, but will be leaving loan after the club failed to win a work permit for the 18-year-old.

Galindo has been training with Arsène Wenger’s first team since January, when Arsenal stole a march on Everton to secure a provisional deal. However, the move wasn’t sealed as officials wanted to look further into allegations of “age cheating” which originated in the Bolivian press. After satisfying themselves that the youngster was the correct age, the transfer window had shut.

The 6’3 powerhouse signed a development contract in March, meaning he would be added to the payroll at the club but he couldn’t play any games. Instead, he trained with the first-team, and was even snapped taking part in a 5 on 5 training match before the Champions League clash with Barcelona.

In May Samuel returned to Bolivia to complete the paperwork required to apply for a Spanish visa, although an application for a work permit for him to join the club now was also lodged. It was refused, and now a loan spell in Spain is imminent. Arsenal initially promised Salamanca the chance to sign the player, but Samuel revealed to ‘La Gaceta de Salamanca’ that plans have now changed:

“Two weeks ago it seemed clear that I was going to go to Salamanca, but Arsenal have told me that they now want me to go to Celta.”

A fee of around €500,000 has changed hands with Real America for the Bolivia Under 20 captain. The left footed attacking midfielder possess a box-to-box style and can play either in the centre, behind a striker, or on the wing.

The same time as usual. Which is 36 months, or three seasons. Although it’s hoped he will have earned enough caps for Bolivia by next December to be eligible.

I like what I have seen of him. Hes got great ball control, hes gigantic, good passer and only 18. We can get him by the time he reaches 20 with almost a year and half experience under his belt

I can understand what wenger is trying to do he’s bringing the best talent of the entire world to arsenal so in the future we can reap the rewards by not having to buy and having a world class team thats been with us since childhoold.

Have we forgiven Salamanca after the Botelho incident or have I missed something since Galindo first thought was he was to be loaned out to Salamanca?

I think people with Spanish heritage (those born in former Spanish colonies like Bolivia) are eligible for a Spanish (EU) passport after only 2 years. Similarly, Carlos Vela was on loan for only 2 years and was just breaking into his national team when he got his work permit.

But like JSanderson says, it may come sooner as Galindo gets caps for Bolivia’s senior squad.

What concerns me is that if they refused Galindo a work permit, will they also refuse Wellington Silva one in January?

Del – are you saying you wouldn’t want to have a single player from the Western Hemisphere play for Arsenal? The same hemisphere that has provided 4 of the 8 quarterfinalists in the World Cup, the best player in the world, and countless other players who have contributed greatly to European clubs for decades. And that’s because of the maybe 6 times per season that they have to play an international match? Seems rather silly to me.

If he is talented enough, he will make it with Arsenal. If he works hard during his loan period, then he should be fine. I mean how many other 6’3 17 year old centre midfielders are around anyways?? hahaha. I know it is unfortunate that he cannot play for us right away, but he’d probably will get a bit more playing time anyways if he goes on loan. It is unfair though that we cannot do what we want to do with him, which is put him in to the 1st team. Very unfair. But like I said, if he is good enough he will rise above all that bullshit hahaha.

I dont think he will have to wait for 3 years to see him play for Arsenal becuase he will by December 2011 have earned enough caps to come to arsenal.

I think this loan spell is a good start for him although Celta or Salmanca are too very poorely run clubs and we should try and find other patners.

About us not signing youngsters – Why should we stop bringing talented youngsters to our club a clubs long terms sustainability depends on its youth sytem.

the cream always rises to the top I used to think the same think that why are we buying all these players if we have players like Lansbury and Bartley coming through
but its not about a single player its about Arsenal.
We want the best to play for arsenal and only the best will make it through competitons bring the best out of players and it encourages them to get better and become no.1

If Lansbury is good enough he will beat Ramsey, Diaby and Denilson to become no.1 if not he will be sold and thats how its works and is suppose to work

Its not all about talent its also about hardwork these players show in their training. Eastmond is a very good example nobody expected him to play half a dozen games for Arsenal last season or any season but he did it with his hard work and hasn’t looked out of place in the first team

Be patient gooners, Gallindo can’t make it into the starting xi this season with offensive players like; arshavin, nasri, fabregas, rosicky, walcot, wilshere(if wenger decides to let him stay) vying for position in the team. so, him getting to go on loan at celta is a good one for now. our focus now should be in the defence and in the DM position( a back to back for song).

Two youth league titles and a youth FA cup in past two years – this shows the youth system is working well. The transition from star youth to star pro is very difficult (in most sports not just football) and attitude is 500% allied to talent – nearly impossible to predict and is very much a numbers game, from every 50 you are fortunate if 1 or 2 actually make it. To this end Arsenal are playing the numbers game and the fees received from those that nearly make it probably go a long way to covering the cost. Certainly the “profit” fom the one or two that make it means the process is worthwhile.
People should observe without heaping unhelpful expectation on the youth players – the PL is littered with former Arsenal youth who the prof deems are not the absolute cream he seeks for his own team but who are good pros all the same.

HaHa! Every time there is an actual signig in midfield or even talk of signing a yongster in midfield, you see articles about Lansbury and why are we signing new players when we’ve go him.

What is happening at Arsenal with Lansbury could very well be exactly what happened to England with their national team: a deep desperation on the part of fans for a representation of themselves to make it big and win, a desperation so intense that a reasonable grip on reality is lost…

Lansbury had a very mediocre season at a Championship level. jET and Wilshere clearly did better on loan, and Fabregas, Nasri, Ramsey, Diaby, and Denilson are all light years ahead of him in talent and and big-game experience.

With the arrival of Galindo and the continued development of Aneke, the simple fact is that Lansbury’s road to the 1st team looks increasingly tough.

Despite what was clearly a mediocre season at Watford, I know people will go on about how he’s the best midfeld prospect at the club etc. etc. But I don’t see it. He’s a decent prospect with a 50-50 shot at the first team at best.

Aneke and Wilshere are the brightest midfield lights at Arsenal by a comfortable margin and 1st team openings for them will not be easy to find…

You say Lansbury had a mediocre season after making 38 appearances in the Championship (34 of them as a starter), then you go on to say you’re sure Aneke, a 16 year old who has never played first team football anywhere, is a better prospect?

Read the posts about Lansbury on this Watford fan blog: http://www.hornblogger.com/search?q=lansbury. For example:

“If I was Malky I would’ve taken Lansbury off just before the end so we could’ve shown him our appreciation too. Rather overshadowed by his mate from Man U, Angela has still been one of the reasons we’ve escaped the drop and deserves to take some of the applause himself.”

Another positive sign is that he improved over the course of the season. He went from this: “Lansbury seems to have got the skills but doesn’t know how to work them into our team and hasn’t grasped the concept of shooting at all” to being one of Watford’s better players during the season. He was also played out of position as a 4-4-2 striker – presumably if he gets a chance at Arsenal, it would be as a midfielder or possibly a winger. And all this at the ripe old age of 19…

JS, on a slightly different note what’s happened to Frimpong? I know he had an injury last season but wasn’t sure how serious it was. I thought changing formations so he could be a box2box midfielder would have really suited his all-action style but he hasn’t seemed to go on with it. Any update?

As to Galindo, we haven’t had much luck as yet with players who have needed to be loaned to Spain for work permit reasons. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time. Slightly frustrating that we have 6’3″ guys like Galindo, JET & Simpson but they are all attacking players while we have short CB’s/DM’s and that’s where our first-team lacks height the most!

Hopefully the delay in signing him means that everything is legit in regards to his age.

Here is a little something for all of you against signing of players that cant get a work permit so we send them to spain for 3 years. In 2001 we tried to sign Ronaldinho but he did not qualify for a work permit. If we had the system back then that we have now, we would have signed Ronaldinho. How anyone can argue against this process is beyond me. Plus Carlos vela has been a success and will be a success. Of course not all will make it but saying we should get rid of this system is like saying we shouldnt have a youth academy because the majority of players dont make it at Arsenal.

Take it easy Shane, I never suggested loaning players out wasn’t the right course of action to take, just that the players we have done it with have not been that successful so far.

And if you think Vela has been a success so far we clearly have different definitions of “success”.

Why do people complain about these types of signings? When Wenger buys these younger players he does not do so to the immediate detriment of any potential 1st team signings…can you not see that or are you too THICK!

Yes like all Arsenal fans I would like to see the 1st team strengthened, and players ready now to be brought in so we can win trophies. BUT it is very very important that we continue to build and devlop a strong youth system which will save us millions in the future. And based on the fact Wenger is quite old now, I find it very encouraging that he is unselfish in his plans for the club. Because many of the 15/16 year olds will likely not ever beneift Wengers managerial regin yet he still strives to make such great additions…a top top manager and the best we could ever have wished for.

PS. Plus a great website for bringing us all the good news on what our great club are doing at this level….many thanks.
