West Ham Edge Arsenal In Southend Cup Final

Arsenal’s Under 18’s were beaten 2-1 by London rivals West Ham United this afternoon, in the final of the Southend United FC Youth Cup.

Although Steve Bould’s boys took the lead through Callum Webb, the Hammers equalised after the Gunners failed to clear a corner and Daniel Subuola slammed home. An own goal from Steven Smith completed the come back and gave West Ham the trophy.

After an impressive 3-1 win over FC Twente yesterday, Arsenal came into the game in fine form. West Ham needed penalties to edge past hosts Southend United, making Bould’s Premier Academy League winners firm favourites. Jeffery Monakana should have made it a perfect start but he drilled over from 10 yards in an exciting opening to the exchanges.

The excellent Bihmountine then layed in fellow midfielder Webb to give Arsenal the lead in the first half. James Campbell should have doubled the advantage from Monakana’s cross, but he didn’t, and the Gunners were made to pay. Poor defending from a corner allowed Subuola to flick at Reice Charles-Cook, he scrambled and Subuola smashed in the re-bound. 1-1.

Both sides made changes in the second half, but West Ham’s were more effective. England youngsters Rob Hall and Blair Turgott combined well, with powerful front-man Turgott causing uncertainty in the back four. Under pressure after Hall’s cross, Arsenal’s Irish defender Steven Smith bundled into his own net. Philip Roberts could have levelled, but the own goal killed the game. The trophy was West Ham’s.

Great report J. What do you think of the new U18s side’s chances of making it three Academy League titles in a row? Any plans to write such an article about this?

Wrenny – Sure there will be an analysis about how they’ll fare this season, like every year. I personally think its another exciting crop. We’ve got some super talented guys in the ranks and the new signings are excellent additions.

Thanks J, I really look forward to reading your analysis on the new crop. And I agree, from what little I’ve seen the new signings Ebicilio and Roberts look very exciting. Bihmoutine is another player who always seems to stand out. The Academy conveyor belt shows no sign of stopping its production of really exciting talent.

On the Ashley Cole question – I was lucky enough to see Ashley Cole play quite a few games as a youngster and his reading of the game was evident then. He was head and shoulders above his age group and seemed to have alot of backing with in the club.

Looking at alot of the West Ham players they are around the same age as the Arsenal boys, P.S we just lost to a good team we need to accept that, because they have a very good bunch this year like Fanimo, Turgott, Hall etc etc.

Completely disagree Paul, those whufc trio of players are extremely athletic, as opposed to superb technician with vision & intelligence.

On the Ashley Cole thing, i recall him as a youth when he was a winger and he was not that impressive, he certainly made no real impression until he was converted to a left back. I was there for his debut and it was then obvious we had a talent on our hands, just a shame he turned out to be such twat or a “Shite snide wanky human being” sorry had to nick that i aint heard wanky since school!!

Nope. He said he won’t leave before he’s 18 and even then he said he would like to go to Chelsea.

Lol, that’s what I thought, but some users in a Norwegian forum thought it looked like Aaron Ramsey. Of course, he’s not even in Austria.

As well, Nordtveit is sponsored by Nike. Ramsey is Adidas.

I know someone from work who is connected to Samir Bohmoutine. He was telling me some interesting stories about him.

One time, he was in the queue for lunch in the canteen in between Wenger and Bendtner! He got his lunch and sat down, and after a while the Cesc-Barca shirt incident appeared on screen. It was dead silent, and then everyone just roasted Cesc for his ‘behaviour’! (Apparently).

Also he was telling me how Bohmoutine got a house from Arsenal, season tickets, executive boxes etc.

Samir believes he is the 3rd choice LB at the club behind Clichy and Gibbs (confident one I think!). And since Chamakh joined, they are best mates now as they are both Morrocan….plus he don’t live far from from me either (gonna hunt him down before he becomes too famous to be my mate!)
