Arsenal are trying to thrash out a deal with VfB Stuttgart for midfielder Serge Gnabry. The 15-year-old has completed a 10 day trial with the Gunners and Liam Brady is now hoping a deal can be done for the much sought after prospect.
Gnabry initially joined Arsenal on trial for a week but it was extended by an extra three days after he impressed. Brady wanted to take a closer look in match action, so the youngster started two of the three pre-season friendlies the Under 18’s hosted last week. Serge turned in a solid shift against a Plymouth Argyle XI before bagging a goal and collection of assists against Birmingham City.
The club are keen to put a deal in place so Serge, who scored 30 goals from midfield last season, would join the Gunners on his 16th birthday. A nominal fee is expected to change hands.
16 years old, 3 years in an English academy, 19 year old available for a first team spot. Sounds good.
Yep, and that means he’ll be home grown by the time he’s ready for the first team. Good news indeed.
JS I know its first team rather than the reserves but do you know if this talk of us being in talks with Man City over Given is true? I really hope it is as he would be perfect. If we got him and another CB we could really challenge this season. Also with regards to Gnabry what position does he usually play? CDM?
Gnabry couldn’t have scored 30 goals as a CDM, so he should be a CAM.
I’m guessing the biggest problem will be his 80k p/w wages…

shane and john…
cesc has been prolific in the last few season but only because of his very advanced free roaming role, i remember the 1st season after henry left cesc started it on fire scoring like 6 goals in as many games, but after that he had plently of eqgually good chances and couldn’t hit a barn door. he has managed to be fairly consistent since then but what i’m syaing is that nasri is a more natural finisher, since he was about 18 i’ve seen him put away difficult chances, even if they don’t come very regularly.
and john your ethos on bendtner is exactly why the english national team is shit, like its as plain as the light of day that bent, defoe etc etc are all better than heskey, but bcuz he is big and lumbering he gets credit for throwing his body about the place, at least maroune who isn’t very prolific is dynamic, ye bendtner scored some incredibly crucial goals, hull springs to mind, but u can’t think hes more natural finisher than van persie, yes maybe he is more A typical of the english game but for me that doesn’t translate to a better finisher, show bendtner a youtube video of vp’s goals and ask him to replicate a fifth of the finishes, he’ll b lost..
aslo i remember playing chelsea last season, having loads of posession and not going anywhere with it, WITH cesc on the team…
I second this !
How many times are you going to post this. If you honestly think Nasri is a better finsher then Fabregas then i feel bad for you. I also feel it is stupid to argue in the whole who is a better finisher between Bendtner and RVP. It is RVP by a long shot.
I cant remember fabregas missing a single chance last season. I can remember nasri missing a few. Cesc was top scorer at a youth world cup, he is an excellent finisher, it jsut took a while for it to shine through at 1st team level.
Nasri has always had a free role at arsenal. You could argue he doesnt put himself in as many positions to score as fabregas, but even then, he couldnt possibly be very much better than cesc. Its more than just technique, its mentality. Cesc definitely has it, when he gets a chance, he normally scores.
VanPersie is actually a poor finisher. How many times have we seen him hit it straight at the keep by blasting it? He fluffs lots of chances, yet scores individual goals. Can’t diss Bentner without dissing Van Persie’s miserable finishing.
miserable finishing………….haha. You must be wathcing Erik Van Persie, his one legged blind brother. What a load of codswallop! Where do you come up with this rubbish, and where are your facts?
2nd that, hit it straight at foster at old trafford last season – first thing that springs to mind.
You guys expect players to be perfect. Of course you don’t score every time you shoot geniuses.
Tend to agree. He only blasts the shots. Not much guile.
jay what position is he in midfield and is there any clips of him playing anywhere online.
WTF im so depressed right about now. i’ve been looking through every gooner website looking for some hope in a decent signing for now, a decent centre back Cahill, a keeper to replace that sorry sack of shit Almunia Get shay sell almunia, and keep youngsters. Fuck arsene stop the pain lol
THIS IS A SITE FOR ARSENAL YOUTH NEWS NOT FIRST TEAM.
Blah, blah, blah. first game of the season away from home at Liverpool who have a new manager and the “great joe cole”, plus a point to prove.
We have half nearly half the first team out we get a good draw and you complain.
Get real boy!!
Are VFB really gonna let him go? If he is one of the best AM”s in Europe, and as athletic as the previous article states, why are they gonna let us have him? Surely they will fight for him?
J, btw, how far are the Player Profiles for this season coming along?
Let’s try again. Why is he available, if not for the money? Thinks he’ll be better coming through at Arsenal and is forcing a move? Has an attitude and needs a change of scenery, so Stuttgart are making the best of it they can, maybe an attractive sell-on arrangement? Stuttgart have someone better coming through? We know Arsenal aren’t getting something for nothing.
when is arsenaltv gonna show u18s highlights again?
true “jay”…van persie DOES miss lots of chances by shooting straight at the goalie – which too many on arsenal do.
Why can’t they just shoot the ball where the goalie isn’t standing?
Has that Japanese kid been signed yet? He looked very good in those trial games.
mY PROBLEM WITH ARSENAL..’SOMEBODY TELL THEM TO SHOOT, WHY ARE THEY SCARED OF SHOOTING
THE HAD CHANCES TO SHOOT YESTERDAY..AND IT NOT JUST YESTERDAY EVERY DAMN GAME
THE ONLY PLAYER WHO SHOOTS IS DENILSON
Sorry Jay…….but have to respond here. Arsenal scored more goals from any outside the box than any other team in teh EPL last year………get yur facts right mate…
I think you are wrong there, redanddread.
I think you are wrong there, Jarle.
If you’re going to disprove something, post a facT!!!!
http://therepublikofmancunia.com/stats-from-the-season/
what was wrong with denilson at the weekend, i would thought he’d prefered to wilshere
Yeah. Seem to remember from earlier, if not mixing up with another player, that Feyenoord was strongly opposed to a move. I hope in any case relations with a prominent talent developer like them can be kept good
adolescence
J, do you know any of the young Arsenal players going on trial for the Victory Shield tournament?
Maybe Arsenal did score more goals from outside the box than any other team last season, I think the point being made is that when a team is very organised defensively (like Liverpool) its harder for Arsenal to work an opening. They dont seem to have a pop from outside the box as much as they should I the hope that something will spill out for a forward at the very least .
Plus Wat the f**k if up with Sagna crossing…. there’s no point in going forward if you cant deliver a qaulity ball in…. this lad has been like this since he join, I dont get it they train every day, you would think this weakness would hae been sorted out by now. Dont get me wrong he is quality defender
The Sagna crossing thing is weird. He is great at about everything else but he crosses like a child. Just hits it and hopes. It is very strange to me.
the deal ist gone! gnabry will come to arsenal when he turns 16
The Deal is Done, i’m a friend of his, he’ll join arsenal when he is 16, but will come over here during his holidays
thanks for your help
can you give some info on the kid aswell
Jay I saw this on Arsenal Mania Forum dont know how reliable it is though. Some one put up
“An Arsenal scout attended the Racing Genk game yesterday. He was definitely there to watch Kevin De Bruyne, a 19 year old highly rated Belgian prospect. Never seen him play an entire game, but i’ve talked to several Belgian scouts and they all think he’s the real deal.”
Know anything about him and you reckon this is true?
Why would VFB let him go if he is so talented?? Is it because he wants to go to us now?? Or is it because of somrthing elde?? Like some people have said before, it really doesn’t make any sense at all.
The arent letting him go. He has not signed a pro contract so any team can sign him for just compensation
Oh I get it. I just hope it won’t hinder the development of some of the other players we already have at the club. I know, I know, we have to sign the best available talent, but it still can come back to bite you in different ways. Oh well, if he’s a fantastic player, then we are ahead of the likes of Barcelona, ManU and Real etc. for signing him which is good. He might want to come to us because we have shown a great deal of interest.
I get frusterated at the fact that we baby players some times. Competition is what breads success. A player needs to earn his right to be an Arsenal player. Sometimes I feel like we put all our eggs into one basket. Theo Walcott is an example of the babying. At some point it is like, either you prove your self or get left behind.
i hope we sign gnabry …
Walcott would be worth babying if Wenger would play 4-4-2 Shane.
The point is , at some point you cant just wait for ever. If a player isnt doing the business, you don’t have to get rid of him because he still has potential but you can bring in competition. No need to hold the team back for 1 or 2 guys. It is the players choice to make it or not.
Now how chelsea and Man city do it is blocking talent.
It’s a difficult one though, isn’t it? When Messi was 17 years old, he wasn’t a better player than Giuly but his talent merited giving him opportunities in the Barca team in order for him to fulfill his potential. We did the same thing with Cesc when he was 17, Wenger going even further and selling Vieira and making Cesc a regular. But was he better than Vieira at that time? Of course not.
It’s obviously different with Walcott, he’s been given opportunities and he’s 21, not a teenager. But he’s also had 2 years where he’s been constantly picking up injuries and that’s hampered his progress. What I don’t get is why people keep complaining about Walcott being in the team, when he isn’t even a first-team regular. He came off the bench against Liverpool, while Eboue and Wilshere played. So who exactly is getting blocked off by Walcott? If anything, Walcott is the one being blocked off from playing more regularly!
Wrenny, compairing a 17 year old messi and a young Fabregas to Walcott is crazy. They were obvious guarenteed talents. By the way, 17 going on 18 year old Messi was better then Giuly. Did you ever see him play?
Also the fact that Walcott consetently loses his place to guys that arent even real top wingers should tell you something. We should have brought in a good winger instead of playing back ups. I still thinks walcott can make it but it is up to him to prove it.
“walcott can make it but it is up to him to prove it.”
And how will he prove it if he’s not allowed to play?
you prove it in training and when you get your chance. You can’t keep coming on and looking like a track star with a 10 year olds footballing brain and expect to be handed a spot.
You don’t know how well Walcott does in training, so you can’t judge whether his training performance merits game time. And watch Walcott when he was a 16 year old at Southampton, then come back and say he doesn’t merit comparisons with Messi, Fabregas, Rooney and any other top talent you can mention. He was an absolute force of nature.
I saw Walcott at southampton mate. He was almost the same player he is 5 years later and that is the problem. He is a track star with the footballing brain of, ok a 16 year old. The point is , at some point you have to truely progress. When you still play in the same manner you did when you were a kid, that is not really improvement. I still think he can become great but the babying can not continue forever.
18 year old Messi was better then Giuly? I dont think so mate. Messi is still a raw talent back then. TBH, he dives a lot during that age (Don’t believe me? just watch his first game vs chelsea in the CL). However, I do agree with you on the lack of competition we have right now in the first team. We need to stop babying players.. For a start, I think AW should choose Gibbs ahead of Clichy for the next game vs Blackpool. I mean, based on their recent performance (poor poor performance by Clichy vs Liverpool by the way), I think Gibbs deserve to get selected ahead of Clichy in the starting line up.
Another thing, I still don’t get it why AW give Fabiansky more playing time than Mannone. Tell me please, what kind of mistake did Mannone do that is far more worse than the mistakes that Fabiansky’s did during the 2009/2010 season?! AAARRGGGH!!!
Giandano- First of mate, i suggest you go back and watch the 18 year old Messi. He was ridiculous.
2nd thing- Clichy should not be taken out. I really don’t get people beef with him. Tell me how he was bad in the liverpool game? Kuyt wasn’t beating him.
Lastly, on the keeper thing. All 3 of the are poor. I don’t get everyones love affair with him. He had one good game verse fulham and has been poor in every other one. I would guess by your name, you are italian tho so i get it.
Clichy was poor, he allowed Kuyt too much space. He’s lost his confidence and looks afraid to get tight to players and get physical.
Once again, i don’t remember what Kuyt did against him.
“Jack is ready to fight for his place at Arsenal,” said Wenger, speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener.
“That is linked with the fact that you [reporters] ask me if I want to win the title and yet you want as well an 18-year-old player to play in the team.
“It is not contradictory because Jack is an exceptional talent but you have to combine both experience and potential to win the league.
“You have to accept as well we are in a country where it is difficult [to play a young player so regularly].
“You said to me that Manchester City invests over £100 million and us £8 million and if we do not win the title it is a scandal! You have to accept that the league is at a high level and it isn’t as easy as it looks.”
That probably means he wont be starting week in and week out
Don’t get the JET love affair either. Good talent but why should he have come on? He still has a long way to go before he is ready to get in a liverpool game. Vela is the player for me. Fast and a great finisher.
Arsenal fans are craving for English players no matter how crap they are. I rate our youngsters but their inexperience was very obvious against the weak teams in pre season. Frimpong and Wilshere kept passing the balls directly to the opponent. A team like SK Graz won’t be able to take advantage of it but many PL teams won’t be as kind. And the first goal from Liverpool, thanks to Wilshere, proved my point.
Let’s count all the bad games Walcott is doing starting with the pool game.
ONE so far. Almost completely invisible and I am sure JET would do something different upfront with Chamakh. While JET has been proving himself all preseason Walcott got the chance just by being in the team for a longer period. that doesn’t mean he is better than JET. Wenger seriously need to give opportunities to players who actually work their socks of on the pitch and on top of that is better than others who don’t deliver.
Not fair mate
Walcott can on as a sub when Pool had a 10 men bus parked on the field and its hard for a winger who uses his pace to break down the opponent to do anything.
Its really not fair to say he had a bad game when he only played 30 mins
As I said. A poor game is a poor game. no excuses. He got the opportunity to do something but that did not happen. Maybe he should never play a game anymore for us because thats 80% of all teams do against us. They defend, defend and defend. Next time bring in JET who can score and dribble and shoot and is very strong and tricky. Keep wasting and coming with excuses is not the key to stay in the team. Walcott got speed but no vision.
WENGER OBVIOUSLY HASNT GOT A CLUE THEN ….IF HE PICKS WALCOTT INSTEAD OF JET AND JET COULD DO MORE .WENGER CANT KNOW THE INDIVIDUAL ABILITY OF HIS PLAYERS IF THAT WAS THE CASE ….YOU SHOULD GIVE HIM A CALL AND PUT HIM IN THE PICTURE.
Hey Jom are you out of your mind.. When Theo came on against ‘Loserfools’ he was not deployed on the wing.. he was put in the center as the 2nd striker.. He drifted on the wing just once or twice.. Coming on for just about half an hour and you expect him to always win it for us.. How can you count that as a poor performance..??
@ yash
Again. He was put in the pitch to do a different but did not do so. Wherever you play you will have to deliver. Now when he is put in the center people start saying he is not good there he should be in the wings. Either way he is shit.
No one should be given an opportunity just because they have potential. For years and years Walcott has the potential… well atleast that what many people say. I have been saying he sucks for almost 3 years now. I can’t see the potential. We are in a position where we do have a lot of players who can play where Theo is playing and its time to give them all the opportunities. Vela is the center who should have been there.
Don’t get the JET love affair either. Good talent but why should he have come on? He still has a long way to go before he is ready to get in a liverpool game. Vela is the player for me. Fast and a great finisher.

Who asked what mistake mannone made?
do you remember west ham game perhaps?
2 vital points dropped cause of his paul robinson goalkeeping
we would have had 21 points and a game in hand
oh and SlickBangGoal
since you are his friend what is his best time for the 100m ?
Benik Afobe hit the 20-goal mark in the Premier Academy League last season and many of those goals will have been assisted by Chuks Aneke.
Afobe credited the midfielder with helping him achieve an impressive goal tally last term and says the pair’s understanding comes naturally after a decade of playing in the same team.
“We’ve been playing together since we were seven,” Afobe told Arsenal.com.
“Sometimes he doesn’t need to say anything, I just know he’s going to give it to me or I’ll give it to him. It’s something that happens naturally, I really enjoying playing with Chuks.
“Off the field we get on well and our families know each other too.”
Afobe’s stand-out moment from last season came at Emirates Stadium when he netted a hat-trick to help Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 5-3 in the Premier Academy League Final.
When he spoke to Arsenal.com after the game he was holding the match ball, which had been signed by his victorious team-mates. When we caught up with him recently, he explained what happened to that memento.
“I gave it to my Mum,” he said. “It was her birthday that day, so it was my present to her!
“But that is in the past now. In the summer I was thinking about it and I was really happy with my contribution, and us winning the League. But now I am looking forward to the new season.
“I’m stronger and quicker than last season and over the summer I worked on things such as holding up the ball under pressure, finishing with both feet and my head, and linking up with the midfielders.
“This season should be a good season as it’s a big one [for me].”
Any news on Ryo Miyaichi, didn’t Wenger watch him and he played really well?
Whoever asked about De Bruyne, Genk is my hometown, so I have been following him a bit.
I remember when he played for the first time in the reserves about two years ago, he came on in the second half and scored five goals. And no, that isn’t normal in the belgian reserve competition. :)
He is 19 now and he had goal of the week in belgium for the past two weeks.
Last week with a rocket from outside of the area (it was reported that they even showed it on television in america), this week with a very good longrange freekick. He scored another one this week, but that was a cross which fluked itself in the topcorner.
He mostly plays on the left wing. He is not very fast but is a very good dribbler and has an unbelievable shot. He is also a great passer. Last week he made his debut for the national team and is regarded in belgium as one of the biggest prospects for the future.
