Loanees – Coquelin Debuts, Freeman Update & Watt

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

In Ligue One

Francis Coquelin made his Lorient debut as a second half substitute in a 2-1 home defeat to Nice. Coquelin began on the bench but replaced goalscorer Yann Youffre with the scores at 1-1. Francis’ first input was to make a silly foul on the edge of the box, and Nice took advantage from the set-piece to win the game. Loic Remy converted.

In The N Power Championship…

Sanchez Watt started and completed another 90 minutes for Leeds United as the Whites drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest. Watt had the chance to win the game in the second half, but he just flicked over with the fixture tied at a goal a piece. However, the Arsenal winger was involved in ugly scenes at the end of the game. Sanchez pushed into former Tottenham right back Chris Gunter, and Gunter was seen to stamp on Watt’s foot right in front of defender Paul Connolly. A brawl ensued. It finished 1-1.

In The N Power League One

Luke Freeman only last 43 minutes for Yeovil Town before being taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg. Scans have since revealed Freeman only suffered ‘severe shin brusing’ yet he’s expected to miss between two and four weeks.

    Really good game today
With fab out, rvp out, daiby only match fit, denilson out, song out and almunia in goal
    add to that
wilshere an 18 yr old in midfield
Diaby didnt played a single game in pre season
and two players on debut we did really well to come out with a draw with all these things

Bring on a new keeper and CB backup because Kos looked awesome and we are ready for the title

Exactly how I see it mate. Diaby was outstanding 1st half and visibly tired which isnt surprising.

Brilliant equaliser too! All the chat about Almunia making mistakes and Reina drops a huge clanger! Maybe he wants to be a Gooner like the rumours say!

@Jason – Good point mate, I didnt really consider that diaby hasnt had the benefit of preseason. I thought he did a decent job, but I know he can do better than this. He’s still learning the DM role really anyway, so overall he did a pretty good job!

Andrew, Szczesny needs the loan more than Mannone. He has a chance to break into the Polish squad but he won’t get a callup if he’s sitting around as a backup at Arsenal. That’ll be demoralizing for him to say the least. Besides, Szczesny has more potential than Mannone to eventually become number one at Arsenal so it’s important that we let him get as much experience as possible at an early age.

      he’s 20 he will play till he’s 40
If Szczesny is that talented then he can break into arsenal first team and he can do that here

why doesnt mannone deserve to go on loan. Szczesny has had a loan now its Mannone’s turn. Szczesny will play 19 games for the reserve then the cup games and who knows he might become no.2 and then no.1 by the end of the season

I want mannone to go on loan

Luke should end his loan spell and when fully fit go to a championship club
I saw the Lorient game and Coquelin did ok. He made some very good tackles but in his haste made a stupid foul and that led to the goal but this is why he went there to learn and grow from these experiences
and good game tonight a lot of positives to take out of it but need Schwarzer now and a CB backup

Hope Freeman recovers soon, so he can get a good season under his belt. Sad to hear about Coquelin making a F-up but the bloke above said he saw the game and he did quite well so fair enough. As for the 1st team, a point at anfield onj opening day is a good one especially considering players missing and as Arsene as admitted, we’re still short of numbers at the back. Hope this is the cue to sign Schwarzer (yes i like Given too, but Almunia is a good shotstopper himself, what we need is a big commanding GK to own the box, that’s Schwarzer and a good tutor for Sczszesny too) and a CD, especially as Koscielny will now face a suspension. Lets pray there’s two incoming transfers this week before Blackpool. (Incidentally, fair play to the tangerines, i recommend any footy fan to read ‘Ollie’ Ian Holoway’s biography … top bloke. Really though, just writing to say how much i appreciate your website. Great to hear about all the young guns coming through … keep it up.

Yeah, top post mate. Schwarzer will be a top addition and a great tutor to the young keepers we have, especially if those rumours about him being offered a coaching role are true.

Ian Holloway is genius! His post match rant after blackpool won promotion to the premier league was the bees knees!

First half we played well and should have kicked on second half and put pressure on their 10 men but we just didn’t,we had a terrible 2nd half,we couldn’t get any momentum going and literaly just passed and passed with no real idea how to break them. On the plus side we got a draw that didn’t look likely and isn’t that what they say true champions are made of?! Apart from the msitake for the goal I thought Wilshere looked impressive, him and Nasri together with Diaby holding back reminded me of Barcelona with the way they retained the ball,if only we had a Messi to complete the passes off! Koscielny looked very good, one pretty much all his headers, positionally sound, good pace, good on the ball, handled Torres well enough and even kicked Kuyt in the crown jewels, love it! Just need a good back up for him and TV then I’ll be happy, delighted if Shay Given turns up too.
The downside is that Almunia looked shaky…again..still I’d rather he’d play than Fabianski, also Arshavin looked like he had a mental breakdown this afternoon because he was less interested than he usually is,get him straight to the psychologist because he is no use like this whatsoever!

I felt there were alot of things to take from the game. Alot more than people are making that game out to be. I wrote most of them on the Freeman article already. Main thing is that Chamakh is not a top striker but a good squad player and should be our 3rd choice or when we are down, he comes on to try a score headers. Other thing is Wilshere should have played higher up the pitch and Nasri in the slightly deaper position. Nasri is great at controling the ball and passing but doesnt play those defensive splitting passes very often. (how many chances did Nasri create today?) On the other hand Wilshere’s youth cost him to give up the ball in some bad areas and he didnt really know how to get forward while still having the defensive responsibilty. He just kind of set back the whole game. He would be more effective playing higher up the field. He is much better then Nasri, in the whole creating chances part of the game.

from what I saw from Chamak he deserve his role in the team
he’s not a poacher or a clinical finisher but a true old fashioned target man and I think he deserves his place in the team even when RVP comes back
he gives the team an extra dimension. Team can play a cross or a long ball upto him when he things aren’t going there way which we haven’t had since Ade left. Add to that his fantastic work ethic and bring players in means he should be our target amn for the coming season
RVP will be better suited to the right when chamak is upfront for me

Andrew, you need to watch the game again. Chamakh did not link up very often at all and that is what he is suppose to be good at. Also, when you only play 1 striker, you need him to do the business every game because there is not another striker to share the work load. Look at that front 3 we played. Where are the goals suppose to come from? Chamakh had 10 goals in 38 games last year, Eboue had 1 and Arshavin had 10. You can not win the premier league title if your front 3 put up those numbers. Are we going to really on Fabregas to do it all? Chamakh only put 2 shots on goal and Reina scored our only goal. Also like I said, I did not see Chamakh doing this great link up play like people suggest. I thought it was pretty obvious today that he was not at the level people pretend he is. He is a good squad player but he will be behind RVP and Bendtner.

Here is a little comparison for you.

Chamahk started 41 games and came off the bench 6 times last year. He scored 15 goals in all competitions and had only 1 assist.

At 22 years old, Bendtner only 19 starts and 10 subs, he scored 12 goals and had 6 assists.

I find it amazing that people don’t see how good Bendtner will become.

Fun fact, Chamakh only had 5 goals in 28 games when he was Bendtners age.

there’s a difference between Bordeuax and at Arsenal we create 10 times more chances than Bordeaux
so comparing chamaks record with bordeaux is irrelevant and he has been pretty prolific with us

This was his first game and although he was ok in the game he still grabbed a goal

Second we didnt play 4-3-3 today it was 4-5-1 with midfielders playing a more defensive role which is what we should play against team like United, City and Chelsea. Teams that have players who can kill us on the counter attack

and who will grab the goals? this team will never have a problem scoring but it does have a problem defending
A front three of Arshavin – Chamak – Van Persie can do a lot a lot of damage

Arshavin – dribble past players and score
Chamak – Hold the ball up for arsh, RVP and cesc and this guy has one of the best headers in the game
Van Persie – Long shots and full of tricks

what will happen is up to wenger but if it was me I would put RVP on the right.

    • August 16, 2010 at 12:19 am

Reina scored that goal mate…lol. I feel RVP is much more effective in the center and i am pretty sure he showed that at the begining of last year before he got injured. I personally would love to see eith Wilshere or Vela out on the right. They both can take defenders on, cut in and link up and shoot. They both have that quality you need from a 4-3-3 winger.

On the fact that you say 4-5-1 …i guess that proves my point that i have been saying. We have 2 many of the same players doing the same things. This is the difference in the Barcelona version and ours. When all your players end up in the middle of the field, you will eventually lose the ball and get counter attacked.

Anyways, i am not worried as long as the obvious issues are also seen by Wenger.

I have to say I’m leaning towards Shane’s case on this one (for now at least). One of our biggest problems today as our inability to get width into our game – everything we tried to do was through the centre, and we frequently ignored the flanks. When Theo came on, it got a little bit better but still remained congested. What happened was that liverpool could then collapse their defense into a fairly narrow field, meaning that Chamakh really had very little space to maneuver and exert his influence. That said, he was not very involved in the game.

HOWEVER, that does not mean he was not a useful presence in the game – his presence is what forced the own goal and had we decided to play the ball out wide and bomb crosses in more frequently, he could have been very effective. Furthermore, this is his FIRST GAME IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE, and against one of the better teams in the league. You can’t expect him to immediately come out and be a handful.

When it comes to his role in the team long term, I think he’s a very useful player for us to have and should start in several, if not most, games. It really depends on the opposition we’re playing. Van Persie is a better creator and frankly a better player than Chamakh and should start almost every game he’s fit. Arshavin is always a gamble – he’s either brilliant or invisible. What I think could be interesting would be a front 3 of RVP on left, Chamakh in middle and Bendtner on right – it could create some interesting mismatches and would really give us an imposing front line. If we did that though, there’d be a big burden on players like Nasri in midfield to be a creator, and on the fullbacks to provide quality width.

Anyway, I’ll end my rant with this – we didn’t play particularly well, but given the circumstances, it could have been much worse. I’m actually incredibly optimistic for this season – players seem focused, the team is talented and I actually think that if we bring in 1 more CB (maybe Sakho/Phil Jones?) we have depth all over the pitch. Given would definitely be a welcome addition, though it’d be possibly even nicer to see Szczesny get a run in the team.

I really have to agree with Shane regarding Jack Wilshere. Why the hell was he playing so deep?? He’s tiny and he will never be a true central midfield player. Sounds like Coquelin will learn a lot from his loan spell at Lorient. I just hope he pushes on from this mistake and keeps improving. Same with Jack Wilshere.

Re Shane’s comment above re Bendtner v Chamahk. Couldn’t agree more. Bendtner gets marked so hard because his height makes him appear clumsy, becuase he’s missed some sitters (which seem to overrule those big moment goals he’s scored about half a dozen of) and because he has self confidence and is the opposite of the Scouse / Manc – shrug your shoulders and squint when you talk – Bendtner has the audacity to smile and look someone in the eye when he talks. How dare he!

Look at the goals last year for example – Dinamo Kiev (or was that the year before?), Wolves, Hull, at the Nou Camp, at WHL. Then consider his spectacular goal v Blackburn, his brilliant goal for Denmark v Portugal.

This guy has plenty of talent and plenty of confidence (what England players need more of – where do they go on the big stage?) – can’t wait for him to come back.

Why oh why do people have to go nuts after one match?? I mean I know it’s goal.com but I was reading comments on there and you’d have thought we lost the match 2 or 3 nil. I mean people, don’t go crazy!! If we lose against Blackpool I will be alarmed, but not right now. God it’s the first match of a long season and we were without 3 of our best players. I count RVP in the 3 because he really didn’t have too long to play and when he did come on he made a difference. I wouldn’t expect to see the best out of our squad for a week or two yet, because everyone has to come back to full match fitness. I will be happy with a win against Blackpool, but I do NOT expect it to be a much easier match than the one we just played. People have to sit back and gain some perspective of the situation.

I hope people now understand how valuable Rosicky really is. He came on and changed the match. Our best move of the match was through him. He might be a little old, but he still has something to offer. Sooooo many people want him to go. I have always said that I do not. Apparently Arshavin went to Russia and then came back all in one week so I am willing to give him a pass on this match. He will improve if he doesn’t decide to go to Russia every week hahaha. For this particualr match I would have taken him off for Vela, but you are only allowed 3 substitutions, and he played a bit better once Van Persie and Rosicky came on the pitch. He will be fine.

That would be the perfect man for our situation, but of course a free Chamakh would be to good to pass up. I think the Stoke move for Jones was the best signing of the summer (not counting free signings).

Yeah I was kinda surprised too. Carlton Cole is apparently worth 20 million pounds!!!??? I watched his match against Aston Villa. The whole squad was horrible. Terrible. Kenwyne Jones is perfect for what Stoke does. They really do know their strengths and have bought accordingly. Man they are gonna be terror at home again this year. And maybe away too. The crowd, the tactics and now a better striker who fits perfectly in to what they do tactically?? Very tough to beat.

Chamakh needs time to adapt but i have alwasy said Nicklas bendtner is a better striker than him.

Bendtner is our biggest goal threat in my opinion. Last season he scored so many vital goals and there is a certaintly he would create chances and out one in.

I still dont think we have seen the best of bendtner but whether you like or dislike he does create alot of chances.

I am not sure chamakh can do that hes more of a link up player making space for others.

I think John forgot about RVP but on the rest he is right. Only think Bendtner has been lacking is the maturity to play consistent. That will obviously come at some point and when it does, he will be a great player and a great target man.

Bendtner has gotten a lot of stick in his time, both deserved and undeserved. But I agree with you john, he’s a good player and chances just flow whenever he’s on the field. He needs to improve his finishing though – he definitely squanders too many golden opportunities. With that addition, he would be pretty scary.

Bendtner by the time he reaches 25-26 will be one of the best in the world
but right now Chamak has a better header than him and there finishing is about the same
Chamak is also less selfish which will work in his favor
Van Persie is not a target man for me. Second striker yes but not a target man I will prefer him on the right of chamak than at the front
shane thinks he should be upfront and maybe wenger does aswell but I hope we get to see

I also think samir nasri is stopping arsenal from creating chances. Hes not very good in the final third. he hardly created any chances today despite having the ball for so long.

I am sure if it was aaron ramsey or fabregas on the ball they would have created alot more.

Nasri hes not decisive enough for me and is too slow in the final third hes dont have the end product he might have touch, balance, skill but hes not effective in the final third doesn get shots in or killer passes.

Bendtner is our best goal threat yh i you heard me.

RVP is world class, quality but last season every time the ball when into the box bendtner would score.

RVP is more of a technical player making killer passes rather than a natural goal scorer.

Bendtner is 22 and hes starting to show some killer instincts where guys like chamakh, rvp are link up players essentially.

Its guys like vela, bendtner who are the natural finishers and goal scorers

Nasri is a better finisher than Fabregas…….are we talking about the same Fabregas that scored 15 in the league last year?

Nasri and cesc are completely different players
Cesc is more of a xavi and
Nasri is more of a Iniesta

about their finishing, Fabregas has been very very good for the last couple of seasons.
I have seen nasri score incredible goals in france and some in england. I think this season nasri should chip in with 8-10 goals

Ramsey for me is the most talented youngster I have ever seen
Cardiff promoted him to first team and he made the switch without any problems
then he came to arsenal and again no problem no time needed
then he’s promoted to the national team again no problem

this kid went from championship to PL to international level and he has never looked out of place. If he hadnt been injured I think Wenger might have caved into fab’s and barca demand and sanctioned the transfer

I am hoping to god that he recovers and doesnt have a mental block because he and wilshere will run our midfield for a decade to come.

      Ramsey – Xavi, Cesc
      Wilshere – Iniesta
      Frimpong – Essien
Coquelin – Flamini (still hurts that the idiot left us)

WTF mac samir nasri is an overhyped, overated player hes got talent but he doesnt perform on the bigger stage he gets his chance to play in his favourite role but still lacks the end product,

Guys like ramsey, fabregas would have destroyed liverpool with the possesion nasri had.

Nasri is like denilson passing the ball sideways, backwards every time he tries to pass it fowards hes gives it away.

Rosicky when he came on your saw what he could do in nasris position nasri isnt effective hes plays around with the ball too much and hogs it alot hes needs to be sharper in his passing and more aware

John- Nasri is not over rated mate. He just isnt the type of player people think he is. In the right system, he is very effective. He has everything including finishing, he just isnt really a play maker. We would work awesome in the center with Fabregas. Nasri is a very good link up man and has excellent ball control. Maybe some day he will add that final pass that Fabregas, Arshavin, Ramsey and Wilshere have but right now, he should play in the position Wilshere was playing today.

Nasri is not over rated he’s under rated
he used to run the show in marsille as a play maker

he showed what he’s all about in the pre season and hopefully he will transfer that into the season this season

As long as fab is there he wont be in the middle but after he goes which might be next year or the one after that
      Nasri
      Wilshere
      Rosicky
      Ramsey
      Arshavin
Will all want to play in that position and all can play in that position

      In a 3 man midfield
1 guy attacks and supports the attack or creates the attack for most of the time
1 guy is a box to box midfielder meaning he supports attack when needed and defends when needed
1 guys is a defensive minded player that bosses the midfield and wins the ball back for the other midfielders

Nasri in the pool game was the guy who was given the job of creating the goals and scoring it from midfield but he wasn’t effective enough
Wilshere could have done Nasri’s job but wilshere has that fighting edge which I love about him. He doesnt take stick from and is ferocious in tackling
Diaby in the pool game was the DM. He did it for france in the wc and he did an ok job but for me diaby instinct is too go forward making him sit back and defend is just supressing his god given talent

Andrew- In our team, yes you put kind of how we run our midifeld. The only disagreement i have is that Nasri is more of a link player. He is a fantastic guy to play through and he will find the play maker. Wilshere is a far more effective play maker. Also I find it kind of funny how people talk about Wilshere and his fight. Yes he is a fiesty player but that isnt really a strength. He isnt exactly an amazing tackler. I just hope that this toughness about him doesn’t get people playing him in a deeper role. He will become Englands greatest play maker if just given the chance.

A little off topic but I was watching the Arsenal vs Sheffield united carling cup game from 2008 when we won 6 to 0 and just got done watching the Thierry Henry movie and it really made me wish we could go back to the 4-4-2 again. I thought we played well last year in the 4-3-3 (or 4-5-1) but to me, it doesn’t really feel like Arsene Wenger Arsenal football. If I am honest, it does feel a little like we are just a little Barcelona. Watching us destroy teams and play this beautiful football while mastering this formation and style made us unique and the best at what we did. Now I just feel like we are coping what has and is already being done.

Plus with the 4-4-2, there is something about a great stiker pair. (Henry- Bergkamp) There is something about a great midfield partnership. Then a great set of wingers and so on. The way we played did not dictate who we could sign. All that matter was that you were good. Like they way we signed Chamakh more for the fact that he fills a role rather then the fact that he is a great player that makes you dream. Really the reason why we got rid of Eduardo. He was a player that you felt could do something amazing if he could regain his form but in a 4-3-3, he could never be a target man. There was also just something about making the worlds most common formation seem so extraordinary.

I know we changed mainly because a few players don’t fit the 4-4-2 system but really we have alot more players that dont fit a great 4-3-3 team than anything. Alex Song would become just as great of a centerback as he is a center defensive mid. Abou Diaby will make a great box to box midfielder along side Fabregas. Ramsey would also be great. You have more freedom in selection of strikers aswell. Walcott would prosper. He is the kind of player that works better on instict rather then when he has to think plus he would kill centerbacks by running in behind them. Carlos Vela , in my opinion would become the true air to the Henry thrown. RVP would be the same. Bendtner would develope better because there is less pressure when you have a strike partner to share the scoring load.

I really do hope we go back to the Arsenal way instead of the Barcelona training booklet.

there’s no point in living in the past
and this is not the old arsenal
these players aren’t box to box midfielders
we had flamini with cesc in the past and they were a great duo but flamini work rate was a major reason for their success and Song comes nowhere close
This is an arsenal build on 4-3-3 formation not 4-4-2 and thinking about the old arsenal will only make you sad

as for me being a recent fan
well my family immigrated to London around late 1918 and from what I know they started going to the games around 1924 and almost every family member since has been a fan of arsenal football club. My uncle actually has shares in the club which were given to him by his grandfather

I am currently overseas getting my uni degree and haven’t seen an arsenal game for three years but before that we used to go to every home game of united and liverpool
and both home and away game for west ham and spuds
I grew watching boring boring arsenal and then became fascinated with the brilliant brilliant arsenal
I have grown up watching the transformation wenger has given to this club which is why I have always been biased when it came to wenger

      Cool story mate.

Our team was actually built for a 4-4-2 but Wenger so that Song was not good in a 3 man midfield because of the style he plays and we had so many center mid players. He just switched. That is why you see casualties of the switch like Edaurdo.

As for Song, that is why i said he would be an amazing mid.

I am bias towards Wenger because I became a follower because of Wengers philosophy. I played football growing up but didnt really watch games until i was about 16 when we got the soccer channel at my house. Sence then I have studied this game. I watch so much football and so many league, it is ridiculous. Every since I first saw my first Arsenal game, i became a huge fan. This is why I am yet to find out if I am an Arsenal fan or a Wenger fan. I just love the whole scouting aspect, and the whole building of a club the right way, not to mention the great football. I also watch tons of classic matches so i am pretty much caught up on a lot of football.

Emirates Airlines is interested in renewing its current arrangement with English Arsenal Football Club, Arabian Business reports. The current deal worth GBP 100 million includes the rights to shirt sponsorship and naming of the stadium runs and through to 2021.

The executive vice chairman of Emirates Airlines, Sir Maurice Flanagan, said: “The sponsorship deal will run until 2021 and will doubtless be renewed. We are very happy with it. For Emirates it is an extremely cost-effective way of maintaining worldwide exposure for brand Emirates. Our sponsorship deal with Arsenal is spread over a number of years,” he added. “Annually it comes to around $8m, a fantastic bargain. We measure the ROI [return on investment] in terms of the worldwide value of the television exposure, using well-established criteria, incorporating all our markets. The starting point of our sponsorship of the Arsenal shirt and stadium is that Arsenal are among the top two or three clubs in the English Premier League and so their matches attract world-wide attention. The coverage which they receive is global, which of course accounts for the Gulf market where their matches are widely viewed.”

The brand has benefited greatly from the association with Arsenal in a global scale.

Even I think a 4-4-1-1 would be good for us.. Song and Cesc in the center.. Arshavin/Rosicky in the Ljunberg role (but on the left wing) .. Nasri/Walcott in the Pires role (on the right wing).. RVP in the Bergkamp role and Chamakh in Titi’s role.. Remember last year Wenger said that Nasri could be like Pires.. Also that we can always change tactics during the match and switch to a 4-3-3 without any substitutions (just bringing in Nasri in the centre and move RVP to the right)….

4-4-2 doesnt work in europe because most teams in europe are now playing with 4-5-1 so a five man midfield can over run two CM and two WIngers any day
this is why SAF goes to 4-5-1 in CL

Yash- Yah 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 …basically old Arsenal. Song can not play in the middle of a 4-4-2. He is not the box to box type. Thats why he would move to centerback.

Andrew- I completely disagree. We made it to the champs league final in the 4-4-1-1/4-4-2. Teams played us with a 4-5-1 in the year we went undefeated. By your statement, no team ever wins in a 4-4-2 (which is what Wenger has one all of his Arsenal trophies in)

I think I did not tell it properly.. I m saying we play a 4-4-1-1 not a 4-4-2 which means RVP gets involved more than Bergkamp.. You could see RVP got involved with the midfield as much as Bergkamp did even when he was the lone striker last year so with Chamakh in front of him he will be much more involved.. This will allow Song to sit back and break up opposition attack and provide the stabilizing/ calming effect to the team….

yash, i understand you but it doesnt work like that mate. You play differently in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 and Song is not what you need in the middle. Diaby and Fabregas would be the partnership. If we played a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-4-2, we wouldnt need chamahk. Chamahk fits a certain role but is not a great player. Plus players like Vela and Walcott could play more naturally at striker. The starting line up would be Arshavin behind RVP tho.

Let me tell you 1 thing I seriously feel friends, we play a 4-3-3 but we play a perfect CDM (Song), a perfect CM (Cesc) but the 3rd position Diaby (??).. He is a very good player ( i repeat he is a very good player) but his work rate is not good and is lazy.. That means we neither play a 2nd CDM or a good attacking player in him.. Our team ethic says we must Attack – Attack – Attack which I feel is good..But then we should play a perfect attacking player instead of Diaby.. With playing Diaby we have a team which just wants to attack but lacks that 1 player.. This way we remain a bit ‘conservative’ thus lacking the spark in attack and also the mental presence in defensive midfield (do you get that?)..

My idea of playing RVP in 4-4-1-1 which I mentioned about is like he would be just in front of Cesc and Chamakh as almost a lone striker.. RVP for me is the best player we have and he loves to drift down and everywhere.. You could say that I want to play RVP almost as a AM (You could see in the World Cup that RVP was far more effective when he came back for the link-up play with Sneijder)….

Yash- On your first comment. I know why we play the 4-3-3. It is simply because we had so many central players. I don’t get your beef with Diaby tho. I would take Diaby out for anyone. Song, Fab and Diaby will make the perfect 3 in there. I like the way we play. I just felt we had something original in the old wenger way.

On your 4-4-1-1 comment. I am not saying the way we should run it. I am saying it would be awesome to play the old Wenger way. As for the player in the whole. I can only assume you have never seen Arshavin play there. He is unbelievable there, trust me. Him and RVP would be amazing.

I thought we played well against Liverpool first half, we looked strong in defence and passed the ball well then joe cole got sent off so all we had to do is not let them score the first goal and we had this game won, then a stupid pass then ngog beat almunia at the near post and then we were all over the place for 5 to 10 mins if we had a better goalie we would have won that game and did you see him flap at two corners geez we gotta sort it out asap. I was disapointed with ashavin again should of been sub done nothing all game if he aint fit dont play him. how come we didnt go down the right sagna was there for ages no one passed to him in half, we had to go wide more often but it never happened. shane and john…
cesc has been prolific in the last few season but only because of his very advanced free roaming role, i remember the 1st season after henry left cesc started it on fire scoring like 6 goals in as many games, but after that he had plently of eqgually good chances and couldn’t hit a barn door. he has managed to be fairly consistent since then but what i’m syaing is that nasri is a more natural finisher, since he was about 18 i’ve seen him put away difficult chances, even if they don’t come very regularly.
and john your ethos on bendtner is exactly why the english national team is shit, like its as plain as the light of day that bent, defoe etc etc are all better than heskey, but bcuz he is big and lumbering he gets credit for throwing his body about the place, at least maroune who isn’t very prolific is dynamic, ye bendtner scored some incredibly crucial goals, hull springs to mind, but u can’t think hes more natural finisher than van persie, yes maybe he is more A typical of the english game but for me that doesn’t translate to a better finisher, show bendtner a youtube video of vp’s goals and ask him to replicate a fifth of the finishes, he’ll b lost..
aslo i remember playing chelsea last season, having loads of posession and not going anywhere with it, WITH cesc on the team..

When Henry left Fabregas was how old? Your comment that Nasri is a better finisher then Fabregas who you rarely see miss and if he does, it isnt by much, is plainly well….stupid. I cant think of another way to put it.

My sister is an Arsenal fan and the only players she knows are Fabregas, Ramsey and Wilshere because she thinks they are pretty boys.

but trust me she speaks more sense than John.

Why do we judge individual players negatively after one game? We had a whole midfield out of action and three debutants in our first 11 at a resurgent feel-good ANFIELD and came away with a point. We’d have all settled for that at the start if we were honest and it doesn’t matter how it happened, it just did so big credit to them all. Two of those debutants had come from the vastly inferior French league and the other is only 18. Whilst I am under no illusions that this side are anywhere near favourites to win the league there are some real positives to take out of Sunday’s game even if it didn’t really click on the day.
Some people on here are pointing at Chamakh’s less than prolific goals per game figures for last season. The statistics are of course undeniable, but let’s not forget that Adebayor had scored about 1 in 15 during the first half of the season before he joined us and Wenger turned him into a 30 goal premiership striker pretty quickly. Always remember that Wenger knows what he’s doing and he will get the best out of him but it’ll take a little time. Let’s not forget too that Sunday’s match was a massive game for the new boys and a big ask but having got through it they’ll be so much better off for it, especially when more of the senior lads are back in to support them. Proud of our team as always.
