Leeds & Bristol City In Talks Over Watt & Simpson Deals

Arsenal have given permission to Leeds United and Bristol City to speak to the agents of Sanchez Watt and Jay Simpson. The pair are both being talked about over season long loans.

Watt is wanted back at Elland Road after he completed a spell there in the closing stages of last season, making six appearances as Leeds won promotion to the Championship. Bristol City have held brief negotiations over a switch for Simpson, but they see Jay as a back up, and hence only want him in on loan. Arsène Wenger has already confirmed his intention to allow the striker to leave, but a permanent deal is preferred as he’s in the final year of his contract.

City boss Steve Coppell has another young Gunner, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, as a second choice. However, no talks have been held over him as Wenger is yet to decide whether he’s earned a place in the first-team squad. One of Emmanuel-Thomas or Gilles Sunu will leave on loan, while the other should featured strongly in the Carling Cup.

Several Championship clubs are poised to inquire about Arsenal’s Reserves, who are in action this evening against Boreham Wood.

Shamrock Rovers anounced today that Arsenal reserves are taking part in a friendly at the end of the month. Do you know if they will take a strong squad? I think leeds would be a good move for both. Playing in front of a big crowd every week

Good for the lads to go on loan although i would prefer simpson to be sold so that we can get some money. I think JET will stay with us atleast for six months bcos of the injury to bendtner and RVP’s fitness concerns.

It will be a mixture of Under 18’s and Reserves. It’s just a furtherT of our youth pre-season.

JET, Frimpong, Nortvedit and Wilshere are all staying with the first team which is brilliant news as far as I am concerned.
All these players are hopefully going to become first team members in the future and it will be good integration in the team
Ramsey will also be back by November which is even better

Would love to Sanchez back at Elland Road. In the brief spell he had for us last season, he showed great flair, control and had electrifying pace. Definitely one for the future for you guys.

Eastmond and lansbury are so unlucky.

Eastmond i think he would have done a better job than Frimpong he would have made us better defensively.

Eastmond did look really good for arsenal last season thought he would push on.

lansbury deserves a chance the kis is so talented and is an arsenal player. Hes a great one touch, two touch footballer

I trust wengers judgment when it comes to who’s ready and who’s not
so lets leave it to him shall we
he’s the one who sees these players train week in and week out and I am sure him and our coaching staff will make the right judgment

Lansbury is a vastly over-rated player (and, I hope I’m not giving you too much credit but frankly you are hugely responsible for this with respect to that problem on this site). He will have a virtually impossible time making it to the Arsenal first team because all the players in his position are much better than him and are also very young.

Re. Eastmond, I agree with Andrew. Wenger sees Frimpong as the stronger choice for the 1st team. I choose to trust Wenger over you John every day of the week.

Good luck to you then. Now that David O’Leary and Alan Smith are distant memories within the Leeds set up (and Jimmy Floyd Hasselwank) I can actually say that. Knocking ManU out of the cup helps a bit there, too. ;) Ironically, O’leary was the proto-Allardyce when it came to trying to knock Arsenal off their stride, and we’ve had two legs broken since. Can’t blame that on Leeds though. (I think Keown and company loved those battles.) It’s just been the evolution of things. (I guess it’s not ironic if you consider that some ex-players, especially the combative one like O’Leary and Mark Hughes) feel the need to assert themselves against their former clubs like sons need to symbolically defeat their fathers.

Sanchez watt for me hasnt developed.

I remeber him at 15,16 he looked brilliant, fast, skillfull, going past players.

Now you hardly see him do it he works hard, keeps it simple doesnt really try to go past players but his finishing has become better.

Kind of reminds me of fabio coentrao ana amzing skillfull, cocky winger who is now a hard working, brilliant defensive attacking full back.

Its quite amazing to see what has happened to him i see the same with watt hes more of a striker now

if i was martin o’neill i’d take a punt on simpson…he’d come cheap, he’s english (o’neill loves english), he’s been educated the arsenal way and has a decent goalscoring return.

why aren’t more premier league clubs looking at simpson? it not as if most clubs are overrun with amazing young strikers. some clubs only have one or two crap ones as far as i can see. what a bunch of idiots they are, not to be begging the boy to come to their clubs.

If I was wenger I will buy Kevin Prince Boateng he is being sold for only 7.2 million euros and he with a perfect partner or backup for song

and I doubt o’neill will take chance with simpson. I doubt any PL club will take a chance with him

but who is martin o’neill to decline jay simpson?

he’s the manager of a club with very limited resources, competing against a bunch of bigger clubs who can not only afford better players than villa, they can afford to strip his team of its best players year after year. first it was barry, now milner, then young.

villa is in a shit position. if they’re too stuck up (and not brave enough) to take chances on players like simpson, they deserve to get shoved down the league by the evergrowing queue of billionaire clubs.

in my opinion, there are probably only 5 clubs in the premiership whose striking options wouldn’t be improved by adding jay simpson. i’m thinking us, man U, man city, chelsea, and spurs.

do liverpool not want to look at him? they’re happy with n’gog are they? no wonder they’re imploding.

jay should head up north, to newcatle or everton, or maybe just to birmingham, and he will turn himself into a decent premiership striker the equal of defoe or agbonlahor or bent within 3 years.

it’s just insane…the success of arsenal’s policy of raising young players is there for the whole world to see, yet when a player like simpson becomes available, no one is willing to take a chance on him!…how big of a gamble does he represent anyway? he’s arsenal educated, he’s english, he’s fit, he was named player of the year on loan a couple of years ago, he has played some premiership games, he was scoring for fun last year until QPR screwed up and changed their management, like, 5 times in one season, he has shown himself capable of playing and scoring alongside good players and against premierhsip opposition…i don’t get it…where’s the risk? for £2m or 3m where’s the risk?!?

Good question. Do we really know how Wenger sees Eastmond/Frimpong? The former was injured. It’s only fans who are assuming Frimpong has jumped the queue. We don’t really know yet, right?

perhaps he isn’t good enough for the teams mentioned?
if teams thought he was they would sign him. simple as that. unless we hear that lazio, everton, newcastle or whoever are scrambling for him then we can assume QPR might want him if they think he’s up to it. if not then it keeps getting worse. hopefully he finds a good club but its stupid to say teams refuse to take a chance in the prem.

everton just signed beckford and have a habit of finding lower league and unwanted players and fashioning a team. if they thought he could do a job, they’d sign him. simples

i wonder if it’s more a case of clubs getting above their station, mistakenly thinking “well, if he’s not good enough for arsene wenger then he’s not good enough for us.”

jay simpson is probably already better than a third of the striker plying their trade in the premiership.

J is there a possibility that Neil Banfield or Steve Bould will take over from Wenger in the future. How great would it be if wenger would stay on to be head scout or takeover from brady.
