Arsenal 4-1 West Ham; JET Bags Hat-trick

Arsenal thrashed West Ham United 4-1 to continue their impressive start to the Premier Reserve League season. A first half strike from Chuks Aneke set The Gunners on their way, before Jay Emmanuel-Thomas claimed a stylish hat-trick. Former academy product Ahmed Abdulla pulled one back late on.

Both sides had first-team experience up front, with Arsenal boasting Mexican international Carlos Vela while The Hammers started with journeyman striker Benny McCarthy.

Nordtveit – Hoyte – Miquel (c) – Meade
Lansbury – Eastmond – Aneke
Sunu – Vela – Emmanuel-Thomas

Subs: Martinez, Henderson, Randall, Afobe, Murphy.

Arsenal began well at a damp London Colney, immediately forcing their visitors onto the back foot. Gilles Sunu was in the thick of the early action, spraying two shots at Stech in an exciting early period.

West Ham had chances to hit back but all the better chances came from Arsenal who were beginning to dominate. However, it took until the 44th minute before the opener came. Vela and Emmanuel-Thomas played some superb touch football, the latter fired in a strong cross which Stech could only palm into the air. Aneke was on hand to nod home. 1-0.

The second half was just 9 minutes old before the hosts doubled their lead in amazing fashion. Emmanuel-Thomas cut in from the right-hand side, beat two defenders and calmly placed the ball past Stech to double Arsenal’s lead. 2-0.

Vela had a selection of chances to get on the score sheet, but he struggled to find his range. The hosts soon had their third, Murphy was tripped in the box and Emmanuel-Thomas converted the penalty for 3-0.

Jay had ran the show and 3 minutes late he got his hat-trick. From all of 30 yards out, he turned and rifled an unstoppable left-foot shot just inside the post. Stech dived full length but couldn’t get there. 4-0.

There was just enough time for Abdulla to squeeze in a strike against his former club to make it 4-1, but Arsenal had cruised to another comprehensive win.

JET is simply too good for reserves. He should be playing in the first team more. And what was Vela doing there? I thought he will play against Shakhtar today, I simply cant look Arshavin anymore.

I’d love to see JET get a few games in the first team. I don’t think he would be quite so shy to shoot at the target as Diaby has been of late.

Stu, good point about Diaby not shooting enough, but JET can’t compare physically. He’s much slower than Diaby. I’d like to see JET get some game time, but not at the expense of any particular player, because he’s not a direct replacement for any of them – although perhaps Song is the closest, since he’s good on the ball, intelligent, strong, and a bit slow.

JET should play in the first time and it seem that he scored every game! It making him play easy for reserve now. Won’t be long for him to play in premiership!

Ridiculous? Most of the team are on the Fringes of first team and any other team would gladly have them in their line-up. Nordtveit, Sunu, JET, Lansbury, Miquel, Eastmond, Vela… out of these guys, several of them have had multiple goes at the first team.
on the bench…. Henderson, Randall, Afobe.. all OUTSTANDING players! What’s left to be seen is how many of them will make the first team next season. I can see lansbury, JET, Nordtveit easily making it… and Vela’s already there. Eastmond had quite a few games already so he might just get there. We don’t even have frimpong destroying the mids.. when he gets back it might be straight into the first team for him, which he would be doing if he had not gotten injured. Then u wonder, where does that leave Denilson/Diaby as these players are more Arsenal schooled than either of these more experienced players and therefore fit in even better. The future is BRIGHT, the near future that is!!

lol Stop exaggerating please ! Too much hype. Calling Randall outstanding is a joke.He wont make it in the championship.Eastmond will not make it at Arsenal but may do in the Premier League while Miquel lacks pace and is often caught but I think he may improve and has a chance of making it at the highest level.Sunu may make it at Premier League/Ligue 1 level but not at Arsenal.Nordveit,JET,Lansbury and Afobe are great although I have my doubts about Benik.Who knows if Frimpong will make it.He has had two serious injuries already. You should put your hopes more on Wellington da Silva and Serge Gnabry.Of course,Aneke has been fantastic but we have so many attacking midfielders.I dont think his pace will be a problem and it will certainly be a pity if we sell him.

    J,
I think it’s pretty clear that wenger is after another young striker, links with the likes of lukaku and hernandez show this. Firstly, am I accurate? And who is the most likely to b purchasd? Jus watchin cluj nd l. Traore has had a fine game, he’s very quik nd altho he’s skinny he dus not lose the ball. I fear tho he is nt clinical enuf. He may b 2 much like chamakh n bentner.

The JET is doing all the right things to earn himself a first team position. I believe he should be given a shot against Man City this weekend. It will be a hard game, and we will need players with a little more height and physical strength.

      Are you mad?
I’m a huge JET fan, but this weekend, against arguably the new emergent superpower and in need of 3 points, is not the time, place and game for JET to “get a chance”.

He needs a PL loan spell. Blackpool again, maybe?

I really like this development with Thomas. He is a very unique player type, reminds me of Baptista. Don’t know if am very far off there.

Anyway; Jay was wondering about the new GPRS tracking system. Are we not supposed to begin to see results in November from this system, think I remember Gazidis saying that. What’s the status on that one?

Anywhere other than ATVO have the highlights or the goals?

Randall has no chance of making it. The others, who knows? JET, Nordveit, Aneke and Wellington seem the best prospects. Look forward to the little Brazilian and the Jap dude coming this winter to add some width.

I think Vela is in big trouble. He doesn’t have the physical attributes to play the central role in 433 and doesn’t really have the skills, tricks to play wide. I hope I’m wrong.

Wouldn’t say Randall wont make it. Wenger seems to think of him highly, and everytime i’ve seen him play, he has looked Technically good on the ball, and when not in possession, usually picks the right spaces to cover. Signs of a good midfielder. Randall seems to have a confidence problem, as its hard for him to impress as he has no pace, or skill, just simply good at the little things. Maybe he’ll be a very late bloomer, we have seen plenty of those, so its too soon to judge (he’s more of a Lampard mold than your typical Arsenal midfielder – Atypical is sometimes good).
JET isn’t ready for first team just yet, I think at his age, Bendtner had shown far more promise. there are no questions surrounding his abilities, however his concentration, and grit has always been a question. The positions he plays are the hardest to break into in our squad as we have plenty of first team depth, however we shall see.
