Arsenal’s Jebb Scores In England Win

England Under 16’s beat Northern Ireland Under 16’s 3-0 in the SkySports Victory Shield this evening. Arsenal’s Jack Jebb, one of four young Gunners involved, bagged a goal and assist.

The Young Lions came into the re-arranged clash knowing a win was vitial if they were to retain the Shield once more. Coach Kenny Swain selected four of Steve Gatting’s Under 16’s in the starting lineup; Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill, Isaac Hayden and Jack Jebb. Chuba Akpom was on the bench.

England enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges, with holding midfielder Hayden showing some neat touches in the middle of the park. However, as the game became stretched, it was Jebb’s excellent passing ability that created the first chance, which was wasted by Newcastle’s Adam Campbell.

Jebb then played his part in the opener minutes later. After first scrapping away to win the ball in the midfield, he played a delightful one-two with Devante Cole, before the latter controlled and finished well. 1-0.

Chuka Akpom came off the bench at half time, meaning four of the eleven England players were from Arsenal. He could have scored the second shortly after entering the pitch, but his mazy run and shot went wide. However, he made up for it shortly after, winning a free-kick which Jebb clipped home for 2-0.

The tired Jebb came off shortly after, and was swiftly followed by Ormonde-Ottewill, who looked decent in an unfamiliar left back role. The game was sealed late on, when Apkom assisted for Rothwell to make it 3-0.

The win leaves Swain’s boys with a good chance of retaining the trophy, with a clash against Scotland still to follow.

Great to see us having the most players in the squad. All were impressive especially Jebb. Akpom made a great impact coming off the bench.

Heard Austin Lipman will be in the squad against Scotland so will be good to see him, already made U-18 debut.

Good for the lads, Jebb looks decent but reminds me of an early Bentley, the no look was amazing if a bit unnecessary but the talent is definitely there for everyone to see, thought Akpom did well too.

I keep reading how Jebb is ‘the next Wilshere’, is this just hype or is he a genuine big talent?

Wilshere was playing in the Reserves at 16, Jebb doesn’t seem on course to follow in those footsteps.

Some players come of age later in their career, others, like Wilshere start at a much younger age. Jebb could have the same potential as Wilshere, although I find it hard to believe, but he may just be a year or so behind him.

All in due time we will find out…

I’ve heard that Jebb amd Wi;shere are very different types of players. Jebb is more like Gerrard with a bit more technique while Wilshere isn’t really comparable to anyone, for except maybe Pirlo with a lot better tackling ability. I’ve heard that they aren;t really comparable to each-other.

Gerrard with more technique is basically Aaron Ramsey and i would say it’s quite accurate to say Jebb is in the mould of Ramsey rather than Wilshere. Jebb looks solid and classy – very interesting prospect.

Wilshere also praises Jebb on Twitter:

Great result for England u16s….like the look of Jack Jebb, Englands number 8, remember him from when i was younger, best player and #gunner”

“when I was younger” LOL! He talks like a seasoned pro. Go Jack! If he keeps going like this he’ll be like Casillas in 10 years – bored at the sight of him cuz he’s been around forever.

What’s wrong with that? Is 3 or 4 years ago not when he was younger?
