Anderlecht Hopeful Of Arsenal Partnership

Anderlecht are hopeful of securing a partnership deal with Arsenal following extensive talks. The Belgian outfit sent Sporting Director Herman van Holsbeeck to London last week, where he discussed a number of ways the two clubs could form a mutually beneficial partnership.

Arsenal already enjoy successful link ups with a number of clubs all over the world, with the main aims being the development of young players. However, deals with Spanish sides Celta Vigo and UD Salamanca have collapsed following poor treatment of loanees, leaving many to question whether such partnerships actually work.

Anderlecht have already put their cards on the table. van Holsbeeck is said to have asked Arsenal for a list of available loan players, with the view to them heading to Belgium next year. The media have since speculated that two players that were discussed are Oğuzhan Özyakup and Wellington Silva, although this is wide of the mark.

However, Anderlecht did make one offer, to take Carlos Vela on loan for next season, but this was rejected by the player. The main agreement would see coaching methods exchanged, as the Pro League outfit have a solid history of developing talents. It would also see the Gunners offering non-EU eligible players on loan.

Any partnership may also help Arsenal’s hunt for Anderlecht’s promising youngsters. Former targets Dennis Praet and Jordan Lukaku are no longer on the radar, but attacking midfielder Charly Musonda is. That deal is complicated, though, with his father saying he wants his son to stay in Belgium.

All in the all, the link up promises to be a fruitful one, should Arsenal go ahead with it. It wouldn’t mean any advantages in signing first-team players like Romelu Lukaku, but it would give the club a firm foot hold in one area of the world that is rapidly producing top quality youngsters.

    Sounds very positive,

If only we could get Lukaku. Van persie has nobody to challenge for his position or step in when he gets injured.

This is not healthy for our club.
    We need Lukaku.

Sounds really good for Arsenal no matter how you look at it. Loan spells to spain have yet to produce any players who become match winners so far.. so working with Anderlecht seems a better option to me.. and we could probably get a few loan players at the same club as well…

Surely a good relationship with Anderlecht wouldn’t our hunt for lukaku…

well certainly Beveren had more success with Eboue and Toure brothers than the spanish teams have had so far…even though Vela excelled with Osasuna

It sounds tricky because the level of player they want on loan is not what we would be sending them. Also where did you here that Vela turned down a loan them for next year. I seriously doubt we are sending him out on loan next year. Unfortunately Anderlecht seem to fall in to the trend of wanting a boat load of money for raw players so we would definitely have to take the players before they get into the first team. Overall, sense Beveren even though we did not bring in Gervinho and Yaya did not have the patience to stay there, most of these other set ups don’t seem to work. Feyenoord seems like a very good option considering their lack of funds so they need to focus on youth.

has to be much better than sending players to Spain where their mistreated.

Holland and Belgium are good leagues for younger players to develop.

Does anyone have a feeling this link-up could be part of a deal to bring Romelu Lukaku to the Emirates? A sort of “if you give us Lukaku we’ll give you the link-up and throw in a few loanees too…”

If we could pull-off deals to sign Lukaku, and his compatriot Hazard, then i think we’d be complete. We miss a physical presence upfront and a speedy, tricky winger to compliment Nasri and Walcott.

With Vermaelen already there, we’d also have the best players of one of the national teams to watch out for in the future.

I think it’s a fantasy, but it’s a nice one. I would particularly like to see Hazard come.

if only this happened a few years ago we may had been able to sign Vincent Kompany, who is one of the top centre backs in the premiership. Good to have a link up with a well known team though and a team who consistently brings through talent :)

any reason why jordan lukaku is no longer on the radar? thought that was looking good, and obviously would mean more chance of getting his brother..

I think it will be a good deal for both side to share young talent, with the way spanish clubs have treated our young players also club from holland and belium should be welcome so the likes of wellington and galindo can go to either side and if anderlecht can asure us playing time then they can take any of the players available for loan.

Feels like too many people have been playing Football Manager – don’t know why Lukaku is being mentioned as some sort of saviour, I doubt most people have ever seen him play.

I have yet to see any real value in any of these type of link ups. So far all we have really had is Eboue and Vela. OK Eboue has done fair enough, but is has never been first choice. Vela still cannot force his way into West Brom!! Not sure (cant remember) if Kolo benefited from any time at Beveren? if he did then that was the leading example.
Ijust think there is too much politics surrounding this type of link and both clubs seem to want it too much one way.

Don’t forget that the Beveren thing was basically a link-up with Asec Mimosas – the Ivorian club which has produced so many top players – via Beveren. Even though we only got Eboue from Beveren, it also had a lot to do with Kolo coming straight to Arsenal. That’s not a bad return considering the agreement only ran for five years, and really petered out halfway through that time.

This should be a success, Celta Vigo were good back in 2004 and have gone very downhill now. Salamanca are just not going to help loan players very much at all really, not to mention that we can’t benefit from getting any good players from their however Anderlecht are a good club therefore this should benefit us…well hopefully it does anyway

I agree with IK about Lukaku. He has to be the most over hyped player out now. I am not saying he can not be great but right now he lacks any real technical ability and just uses his strength but verse better opponents like Ajax he struggled.

@Shane, yeah right, you should watch his game against Ajax, away game the saison before in that same euroleague. Lack of technical ability? Did you ever see him play btw?

Being from Belgium I know Anderlecht a bit. I am not a supporter of Anderlecht, far from in fact. I don’t really like them because they stole my favourite player once from my local club.
But Anderlecht is the most successful club in Belgium by far. always playing to win the league and always have given chances to young players also.
They try to play a technical and attacking game. So it could be benefitial for young players to experience playing for the title and the pressure it brings and also to get more game time.

And who knows maybe I would have a look around and go and see those Arsenal players playing a game for Anderlecht every now and then.

Of course there are no 100% sure a player will stay even if he turned up for the kit presentation.

i think spanish clubs understood that arsenal is just using them to help get young players work permit at the same time arsenal charge them loan fees plus they have to pay the player. so they prefer to let them rot on the bench.
if they played wellington and he shines arsenal would have won his special talent visa.
maybe spanish clubs feel they are being used….
maybe i am wrong but thats what i think

also if galindo gets games and they called by bolivia after few caps he will leave salamanca to come to arsenal.
its difficult for a football coach to work with a player who’s only around for a short time.
wellington had to the same problem in brazil after he confirmed he was leaving he immediately got dropped.

sam, i get what your saying about the time factor some coaches may not like the fact they might not have the player too long, but surely if they are paying loan fees and the player they would be more inclined to playing them? and i mean the loans i think are for the end of the season, and a hell of a lot of clubs do take players on loan even if it is for a couple of months so i think the issue is simply they are not good enough to make an impact from the start or as the case of wellington attitude problems?

@ Uncle Mike and Chris –

Did you read anything I said? All I said was that he is over hyped at the moment. He just uses his strength and lacks really technical ability so I don’t think he is worth his price tag. I also said, “I am not saying he will not be great”. How is any of that not true? Have you guys never watched him play? His price tag is like that of a player already performing great against top level players. My only point was there have been plenty of over grown kids that have looked good as young players but did not develop the technique to go with it. By the way for your Drogba reference, why does everyone use the extremely rare occurrence to prove a point? How many players have had the same career path as Drogba? Not many.

By the way, I am a huge fan of this current Belgium generation and feel they will reach at least the semifinals in one of the next 2 world cups so I do hope he succeeds. Personally, I think this is what is wrong with football. The crazy amount of money in football is going to make this kid make a step up that he should not be yet. He should be joining an mid level club or a top french league club and then when he is ready, he should move to a big club.

We don’t care if there is a partnership or not. What we care for is our team winning some silverware.Of course these partnerships are necessary for the future of the club but what about our present?

A partnership with Lille should be the priority. They are on course to win the league and their revenue is dwarfed by the big 4 in France. Plus then we may get first dibs on Gervinho and Hazard!

Nope this is the way to go… Belgian players under 25 (e.g. recently developed..) Vermaelen, Kompany, Hazard, Defour, Lukaku, Fellaini… if they dont win Euro 2012… then it will be Spain…

How about a deal with Barca – I’m sure that would keep the media busy. Even better, one with the Spuds where we send them our surplus stock (sometimes via a third party) at a healthy profit, their fans think they are getting a superstar and find out 1-2 years later the reason we let the player go. Then offload the player at loss. Oh that’s right we’ve been doing that for years already
