Ozyakup Breaks Off Arsenal Contract Talks

Oğuzhan Özyakup has opened negotiations with clubs from Italy, Germany and Turkey after talks over an extension to his Arsenal contract broke down. Özyakup’s current deal expires in the summer.

Arsenal have been attempting to secure the Dutchman’s future for a number of months, and made their first offer around January time. Oğuzhan and his agent both admitted they were hopeful all parties would reach a successful conclusion. However, since then, the midfielders relationship with the club has deteriorated.

In a bid to resolve any concerns the player had, the Gunners returned to the table with an improvement on their two and a half year offer, with more money. Yet Özyakup once again rejected it, and is thought to have asked for guarantees over first-team opportunities.

There have been further lengthy talks recently, but Özyakup felt the club had broken promises made to him when he signed, and the 18-year-old formally broke off talks. He has since began to look at offers elsewhere, but has left the door open should Arsenal change their terms.

He is expected to decide on a club in the next month.

Randall was always a head case, poor attitude and an over inflated opinion of his talents. Seen him give little effort in far too many reserve matches.

Thanks, JS. Interesting developments. I find it kind of funny how he claims to be holding out because of principle (broken promises), but will return to the table for improved terms. I assume first team opportunities are never part of a contract, so I fail to see how more money or more years could rectify an apparent personal problem.

This is the risk of our youth program, though. So many talented players around the same age fighting for very, very few spots. We’re bound to lose some, let’s just hope we keep the correct ones.

I’ve seen him play and he’s decent, but to be demanding first team action at that young of an age is ridiculous. If he’s unwilling to actually work hard until he’s good enough for the first team then good riddance.

I hope he stay but with this news it looks like he is sliping away from our hands, he is such a talent also for me he has similarities with fabregas so can be the future fabregas when he finally leaves and i still hope he sign for us so i think the problem here is the guarantees of first team oppurtunities or what do you think friends?

he might be a player who really comes good in a few years.. but he won’t be able to have first team opportunities in a young club like Arsenal. He’s only 18 so he has much time to go before first team opportunities arrive. There are just too many ppl ahead of him around his age in the first team, therefore, it might be good for him if he leaves. However, I do see him becoming quite a good midfielder in 3-4 years.

Merida is 21 now, and with Atletico this season he has 24 appearances. Is that more or less than he would have had if he’d stayed with us? Probably more. So he probably made the right choice to leave as far as his development goes. However, it really is the loan issue that complicates things. Merida could still have developed away on loan, but perhaps not as well given he’s small and better suited to Spain anyway.

It sounds to me like Oz is being a tricky customer and we’ll miss his left foot.

Imo we were really unfortunate with merida. There was a time last season when we had a number of injuries and fran was just starting to get some sub appearances, and his big moment came when he scored a pretty good goal to help seal a PL victory for us. I really expected wenger to start giving him matches after that, possibly even starts in the PL, but unfortunately he was injured for the next games and some of the 1st team players started to come back from their injuries and so he missed his chance. I think once the door shut on him again, he decided he wanted to leave.
It’s a real shame because I think he is an incredibly talented player, not too small for the PL at all. At the very least he is a young arteta, but imo he will be a lot better than that even.

This is what happens when we promote the youth far too early. They all want first team action.

Don’t get me wrong that is great for the club for competition for places etc but I believe only exceptional talent (Wilshere for example) should be promoted. From what I have heard this player is good but not better than Wilshere, Fab, Nasri or Ramsey. So unfortunately there just isn’t a place for him just yet.

    These guys need some patience.

I get the impression that Ozzy thinks it’s his right to be in the first team. Wrong. He must work for it. No sailing through. If he chooses to leave just beacuse he’s not getting 1st team chances w/o even working for it then that’s his issue. He definately needs a change in attitude or else I doubt he’ll get far (at Arsenal or anywhere else).

I read a couple of months ago he was entertaining a loan move next season but then he changed his mind. What’s up with that?

Each young player at Arsenal believes that they should get first team football by age 18 or demands start coming, how many break through at such an early age at man utd, chelsea etc, they need to be more grateful for what we as a club offer rather than getting too big for their boots,no reserve/youth player should be in any position to demand first team football at Arsenal,it should be earned and by my reckoning although he seems a decent player he aint deserving of that accolade yet, good ridance I say

A lot of young players will leave this summer some will surprise us the team is young and they need first team experience. Why sign 30 plus young players when you
there are only very few opportunities. Its clear the academy players are sold off to pay for the senior players and give their shareholders more cash. Season tickets up by 6%…..

He wants guarantees of first team football? Get in line, son. Get in line.

We have a bunch of midfielders on loan who are ahead of him in terms of development, as well as a collection of top internationals who already play in Arsenal midfield. If he doesn’t want to fight for a place, then he has no right being at Arsenal. Demanding first team games at his age shows just how much he has to learn.

Everyone wants a guarantee over first team games. Tired of these players that think you should just be given a spot. You earn your right to be a first team players.

Would be better if we could get this guy signed up and then ship him off to feyenoord on loan next season to see how he compares to miyaichi. From what little I’ve seen oz is a quality player, and one who looks like real arsenal material, but as everybody has pointed out, you have to wait for your chance sometimes.

A big loss in my opinion, he’ll be a star in future for someone. Oh well, Arsenal won’t be held to ransom and they’re right.

a lot of people have been in this kid’s ear, telling him how good he can be for holland in the future.

    national teams are bloody parasites.

they’ve inflated his opinion of himself, and now his arsenal career is over.

this is why we should flood our system with these kids. if one of them turns on us, well…plenty more where they came from.

He will not make it big with that attitude of being guarantee a first team spot. I think he will make it in another club but if that is a top club… I’m not sure.
