Botelho Set To Join Rayo Vallecano

Pedro Botelho is expected to join La Liga new comers Rayo Vallecano on loan in the next 24 hours.

The Brazilian had been hoping for a chance to break into the Arsenal first-team, following four successive loan spells in the Spanish Segunda. The latest, a season spent with FC Cartagena, was his best yet. Pedro turned himself into a hero in Murcia, scoring four goals in 39 appearances.

However, despite that impressive form, Arsène Wenger told the 21-year-old he would not be given a chance at Arsenal until he’d played in La Liga. A deal appeared close to join former manager Juan Ignacio Martínez at Levante, but that fell through last week.

Pedro has now arrived in Spain to begin his season long loan move, in the hope that its his last spell away from the Gunners.

Hopefully I’m not speaking too soon here but all credit to the lad for how he’s handled himself. It mustn’t be easy playing in limbo like he has for the last few years and I’ve never heard him pipe up.
    Best of luck to him.

Does he qualify for a Visa now? If yes, why didnt we loan him to the championship?

I really dont like these signings. This kid has been on loan for 4 years and still no sign of ever playing for Arsenal. What possible loyalty will he have for Arsenal? Next summer he will have 1 season left on his contract.

To be honest, I think these deals are amoral and would rather we didnt go in for them.

      i agree with you.
if he does become a success at arsenal, chances are he’ll do a flamini and leave becoz of the way we treated him.

I agree. Arsene should get him to a lower level EPL team like Norwich. He will learn English and prove he can play in this league. Kind of a waste of time if he never comes.

This information doesnt ring true actually. If he qualifies to play in England, why on earth would we be keeping him in Spain?

makes zero sense if he could play in England. A loan to another English team would be the natural option here.

    Yep, makes no sense whatsoever.

He doesn’t qualify for Work Permit yet, 5 years I think. Good luck to him next season.

Hope he has himself a good estate agent with all this moving he’s doing, but does look like a talent and someone who could of stayed and maybe played his trade in the championship so we get our own opinions on him week in week out, goodluck

Bermuda, I think you need to read the article numb nuts.
“However, despite that impressive form, Arsène Wenger told the 21-year-old he would not be given a chance at Arsenal until he’d played in La Liga”

If he can play in UK, then La Liga experience is pretty pointless.

Actually, it’s only three years to get a work permit so Wenger obviously just doesn’t think he’s good enough to challenge kieran gibbs

Reyes was good in La Liga but not so great in England.
The Championship is closer to what he will experience in the Premiership eg. teams that will kick you rather than play ball, playing in the winter over Christmas (no break. He won’t learn to deal with the physical aspect of the premiership in la liga

If anyone here thinks a Championship loan is better than a season in La Liga they’re deluded. I really don’t understand what goes through some people’s minds, it’s like they’re living on a different planet sometimes.

In some ways it is, but in some ways its not. It would be good for him to learn how to deal with players marking him tight and kicking the crap out of his ankles but obviously the standard is of no comparison, La Liga is almost as good as the prem, just obviously domintated by two teams. It will be invaluable for him to get to play against the spanish giants. Even though the championship has its benefits i think this is a far better way to observe his talents

I don’t believe he is in Arsenals plans for the future anymore. There have been some incidents, on and off the field, so I believe they are hoping to offload him. That will be easier to do if if he stays in Spain…

any truth to the story that we are getting bruno uvini from Sao Paulo? Whilst he would hardly constitute the experienced, physically imposing centre half that we so desperately need, he sure shows potential.

CAN’T WE JUST LOAN HIM OUT TO EITHER WEST BROM, NEWCASTLE, SWANSEA, QPR, NORWICH OR BOLTON? Oh, wait. Nevermind.

@ this stage i have no idea what arsenal’s plans for next season are, thought this guy would have been loaned out to a championship club..& with Arsenal appearing
not to be interested in a cb i personally think this is to promote bartley into the first team,
have no idea at all regarding the plans for Jet,Lansbury, coquelin, aneke, afobe.now that bendtners out of the way i thought some of these guys would have featured for the first team in the squad bound to germany but only afobe,is this to assess whether he’s ready for a stint in a premier league club??& thought that we were after lukaku is there any truth to that??so many questions

You people stupid? Where or how does the article say/suggest he can play in England? He wont get a work permit anytime soon based on the fact he hasnt played for Brazil, nevermind 75% of the Brazil games. He will be able to apply for Spanish citezenship after this next year, and if he doesnt get that having played a year in la liga he would get a work permit then. But based on Spanish second division, no chance.

Good move for him. Feel a bit sorry for him that he’s been out on loan for 4/5 years now but he looks a real talent.

    Good look Pedro.

jesus, 4 years out on loan. arsenal can’t honestly think that this is how to prepare players for the first team? surely? and why wait till year 4 to loan him to la liga?

i really like this kid, i hope that he has a good year and earns a shot in the first team squad next season.

We had Nordtveit, Botelho. Botelho seems to to on same way, Nordtveit has proven himself in Bundesliga as a DM, as a CB . guy has got guts cause he chose an almost relegated team Borussia Mongladebach and fought with his team to stay in top flight. He must have developed strong attitude as Mongladbach defeated Bayern Munchen and came home through relegation playoffs. its good to Loan defensive players in Clubs where they will be drilled by the opposition. Maybe not this year or maybe not in year after that but these Three kids Bartley, Botelho and Nordtveit will be a part of top quality defense (when they are 24-25). I wish they are at Arsenal when this happens. ……… To young guns admin … Do we have any buy back clause in case of Nordtveit?

Håvard Nordtveit proven himself? He has done 16 appearance for a weak team. No way in hell that he would done better in Arsenal who competes for a title and is in a much stronger league. There are no guarantee here in football and be ceause we are the Arsenal we can always buy another top talent or a player that is proven in CL and premier league. Lets see how many apparances Håvard Nordtveit will do this season. I doubt he will end up in a top level team.

I m of the view that in future the club buys these young talents and if it doesn’t secure work permits for them loan them back to their former clubs and pick them up after they have adequately represented their countries.

nordtveit is still young for a defender to be judge. had he stayed maybe he could have been better cover than squillaci.
but this is how arsene does things, he doesnt drop his senior players no matter how bad they play.
almunia is the first example, can you believe this keep that nobody wants wore arsenal shirt for so many years?
he plays bendtner on the wing and drops vela. bendtner is not a winger and vela is better in the position.
he only dropped arshavin because of loud mouth nasri had no place in central midfield. he keeps saying he has money to spend but go on spend it, send arshavin packing and buy someone dynamic to win us the title.
new defender or not, squillaci is going nowhere and he will be ahead of bartley.
this team could have won something last year but arsene arrogance keeps getting in the way.vela could have chipped the barcelona keeper and got us through, yes maybe. but what was bendtner doing on the pitch in the first place.

Well Nordeveit is a lot better than Miquel imo, and Miquel got a chance last season. I think Havard could become one that got away.

Can’t believe someone said Nordveit proved himself in Germany at defensive mid. He was horrible that year.
