Hastings 0-9 Arsenal: JET Shines In Rout

Arsenal’s Reserve and Youth players continued their pre-season preparations with a 9-0 win over Hastings United this evening. A Jay Emmanuel-Thomas hat-trick, a brace from Luke Freeman and one each from Chuks Aneke, Oguzhan Ozyakup, Jernade Meade and Sanchez Watt sealed a comfortable win.

Banfield made four changes from the side that beat Woking 3-0 last week, with Shea, Hajrovic, Meade and Afobe all dropping out. There were first starts at this level for Charles-Cook and Galindo, while Yennaris and Freeman also came in.

ARSENAL: Charles-Cook; Yennaris, Bartley, Boateng, Henderson; Aneke, Özyakup, Galindo; JET, Watt, Freeman.

Arsenal started brightly against the Isthmian Division outfit, and could have taken the lead with just five minutes on the clock, when Freeman found Aneke in space, but the 18-year-old could only shoot at the ‘keeper.

The gulf in class was obvious right from the off, and when Freeman combined with Özyakup, Arsenal had their lead, and wouldn’t look back. Emmanuel-Thomas then wasted two superb chances after some quick foot work, before lashing a 35 yard effort miles over. However, he would make up for it in the closing stages of the half.

An excellent dribble around the Hasting’s defence allowed him to walk in goal number two. Jay got himself a second shortly after, with a well hit drive. 3-0 and total control.

Aneke should have made it four straight from the kick off, but his chip went over the bar. Yet the prospect would finish the half with a goal, when he lashed home in style.

Banfield switched things around at half time, bringing on Rhys Murphy for Boateng. The changes threatened to disrupt the flow, but Arsenal kicked on in their search for more goals.

Murphy hit the post, then Hastings thought they’d denied Emmanuel-Thomas a hat-trick with a brilliant last ditch tackle. However, the leggy forward would grab his third shortly after, smashing home an effort from the edge of the box. A truly superb effort.

There was no time to celebrate the goal, as Arsenal continued their hunt for more. They didn’t have to wait long, as Banfield’s boys grabbed two more in quick succession. First, Watt grabbed number six following a spilled Meade shot, then Özyakup unlocked the Hastings back four for Freeman. He made it seven with ease.

Second half sub Meade got goal number eight from Henderson’s corner, before Hastings almost embarrassed Charles-Cook on his debut. The rookie stopper managed to scramble the ball away, having had little to do all game. The ball was soon back up the other end, and was soon back in the Hastings net. Freeman with his brace. 9-0.

Despite a real desire to grab the 10th, it finished 9-0. All in all, an enjoyable work out.

How did galindo play overall? Also did Meade impress much and is there much chance of him making an impression this year if he can stay clear of injury? Thanks again for the excellent insight and coverage into this area of our great club

    Thanks for the information.
It looked a great game from the youngsters.
It might be a stupid question when we won 9-0 but how did Bartley play?

jay emmanuel thomas is a bit frustrating…he walks over reserve teams week in week out but never seems to make much of an impression at first team level. even in the championship. what’s his deal…

JET is born and bred arsenal, he plays the arsenal way his loans have been to totally random teams who dont appreciate joga bontia. Galindo started in CM, fairly composed, kept the ball moving, never really tried anything silly or special. While he spent the second half at CB, looked okay there, but little trouble for him to deal with. Certainly a player with presence. Strangely he didnt go up for set pieces – he just stayed as the last man!

Bartley certainly looked the part. Big frame, captains arm band, composed, confident in bringing the ball out and pinging it around. But then again it was a real easy run out for him really.

I was at the game as a fan of both teams and knowing Hastings I wasn’t expecting much of a fight from the U’s, all of the Arsenal players were stunning.

Starting to get real interesting to see what these youngster can do this season. I hope Lansbury or Henderson or Aneke get a chance in the middle.

I wanna see what Watt can do as a second striker for the first team. I have a feeling he could be really awesome.

    Off topic..Chamberlain

His dad wants him to join so he can use arsenals training facilities and thats it..he is only 17 and its likely he’ll look to leave around 20 years old, for another club, probably chelsea because he supports them, from what i gather he’s in it for the fame, he’ll use arsenal and move for a bigger pay check. Arsenal need to buy players like Jenkinson, who support the club and look to give 110%..

I hope arsenal dont get chamberlain, they will get burnt.

So wenger should push the players he already has at his disposal

Contra is spot on…..i was only discussing JET and the rest of the 2009 youth team and if they had all been given a chance together they would flourish! It is gonna be a real shame to see them disapear. If JET had half the chances B52 had he would be numero uno at the mighty Arse now!!
