Walcott Races Miyaichi As Training Hots Up

Arsène Wenger stepped his sides training schedule this morning, as Arsenal prepare to face their first challenge of the Asia tour, a friendly against a Malaysia XI.

The highlight of the session saw wingers Theo Walcott and Ryo Miyaichi race each other, with both finishing almost identically. Ryo, who boasts impressive sprint times, also featured on the left wing of a practice game, with Samir Nasri in the centre. A possible indication of how the team will lineup tomorrow.

Elsewhere, the session finished with a penalty shoot out, but there was no pressure. Jack Wilshere took the first spot kick, and after scoring, received a swift kick to his behind from goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.

You can follow updates from tomorrows fixture on our Twitter feed.

I will be really interesting to se the likes of Miyaichi, Jenkinson and Frimpong tomorrow and I assume that it will be unlimited number of substitutions?

Wow.. if Rio Miyaichi can sprint like Walcott, then he too fast! the good thing with him is that, he sprints with the ball glued on his feet. He reminds me of Mark Overmas

yes…Ryo is fast…he’s on par with walcott when they were sprinting towards the ball…there ball but it’s enoce of them reaching for the same ball but it’s enough to see that Ryo is fast…but if they were really head to head…i think Theo will be a bit faster but Ryo is faster than most people :)

Hi Jamie, what an interesting race that would of been. Clips of Ryo show that he can run at pace with the ball but keep in control at the same time. Walcott has pace to burn but sometimes he does not have complete control of the ball and lacks the trickery of a normal winger. To use a Fifa game reference, Walcott is more of a nudge the right thumb stick and leg it, where Ryo looks like he has a few lollipops and other R2 combinations :-). Jamie do you know anymore news on what the chances of Ryo getting a W/P are? If he goes back to Holland then fair do’s but surely FIFA can see that this guy has the talent and should play games. If he gets the W/P I would put my right nut on the line and say that even if Wenger knocks the dust off his Wallet and gets big buys, RYO will still prove the ‘signing’ of the season for us.

    Walcott Vela
    Ryo Ramsey Wilshire Gervinho

Obviously we’re not going to sit RVP, Cesc, Nasri et al but man, that team would have so much speed they’d eat bus parking teams up!

Times for both theo and ryo are posted on the link in red above (Theo 10.3sec, ryo 10.8 sec).

Bob, the problem about parking the bus is that the bus is parked deep and there is no space to run into. The ideal plan against the bus-parkers is to have a few tall forwards to knock in crosses and have a few people who can score from distance. Speed is not our problem, potency is.

WE definitely packed last season and, one plan for parking the bus teams might be tall players to cross to. Also, having players with good close contraol and dribbling is another too. As well as our usual game plan of working spaces with fast accurate short passing. When we collapsed at the end of last season, that game went as the players lost form and confidence. WE definitely alternatives to that game plan, agreed. Not sure we will be going with the tall man cross thing type though.

Walcott & Myo’s times are around 10.4 seconds for the 100 meters. Arshavin’s around 23 seconds & Denilson 34 seconds. Although Bendtner isn’t on tour I’ve heard his time is about 1 minute and 22 seconds.

I am very interested to see exactly what formation we will be playing this year. I sure hope we go at least back to the 4-3-3. I am not a big fan of the 4-2-3-1 for us. Fabregas is much better coming from deeper roles and Wilshere is much better being aloud to run with the ball instead of when he does it, we are left vulnerable for the counter attack in the 4-2-3-1.

Natural left footed and left sided player with his pace would offer a lot going forward especially if he can notch a few goals along with Theo and RvP will always get us goals so hopefully a work permit gets granted

Letting vital 1st team players contracts run down to one year Narsi should have been made sign last season or sold while f**k heads like Denilson, Eboune,Traora, Eastmond and given long contracts on good money so we cant shift them!!!!

We are told by Wenger the Gibbs is going to replace Clichy. Gibbs is still very raw and defending wouldnt be his strongest attribute. I know people are saying Vermanlen can play there and I suppose thats fine the odd game. Gibbs also has had horrible run of injuries the past few seasons are the management expecting these to disappear all of a sudden.

He makes quite a few mistakes and he is not even a starter for his national team. I agree there are better options then 17 million for Cahill but not sure if Zapata was it. Very raw talent.

Also I understand your anger some but why do people always name Eboue in their rants? I say this all the time and no one ever responds….. Name me a list of better back up right backs. Also he is one person that actually does love this club.

Song has a French passport, but still… Only a football-moron could suggest he would have deserved an STV, given the benefit of hindsight.

Hell, Denilson is more than good enough to have got one. They’re only ‘special talent visas’, not ‘extraordinarily brilliant once-in-a-century talent visas’.

In any case, all these extreme views on Denilson are completely bizarre. In reality, it’s a marginal thing: either he hasn’t quite done enough, or he’s just about produced enough that we should keep him around and hope he fulfils his obvious potential. It’s not clear-cut either way, and anyone who pretends it is is just showing that they don’t really understand football and don’t have a valid opinion.

He positioning is good, he can keep our possession, he has a good long shot. Have another look at his carling cup debut that was worthy of a special talent. He had the talent but his tackling has gone downhill and his speed and tracking back leaves a lot to be desired. The premier league isnt the right leauge for him the spanish and italian league would suit him. Can you remember him aggainst barca two seasons ago he was far better suited to there style than song.
But i agree his time is up and he has to go.

We took a gamble on him when others weren’t willing to and I think he owes us his services for a few years because of this. Even if he doesn’t come this year he should persevere and trust that he will get his opportunities with Arsenal!!! He might have to be overly patient, what with all the rules and regulations he has to endure to get the proper certification, but he really does owe us and I think he will do marvelously well when he comes and plays for us!!!

“Tell me the point in a defensive mid that can’t take and can’t pass over 4 yards”

Makelele? Gilberto? They all started somewhere. Not that I’d agree about Denilson being unable to pass long – he’s actually very, very good technically. More of a Xabi Alonso than a Makelele. He restricts his passing range a lot of the time, but that doesn’t mean he can’t play a Hollywood ball if he wants.

In any case, the short, four-yard passes are what our play is built around. The simplest way for, say, Fabregas to get past his man is to lay the ball off to Denilson, move, and get it back.

The point isn’t that Denilson clearly deserves to stay, but that it’s not clear-cut either way. You’re perfectly entitled to hold the opinion that he’s not quite good enough, doesn’t offer quite enough, but it doesn’t make sense to say that he’s rubbish. At worst, he’s slightly below the standard required to play for Arsenal, but that still makes him a very good player.

I have always stated that he simply not Arsenal quality. He might be a decent link up man for a mid size club but for us he provides nothing. Almost all of our players can play a 2 yard short pass. He does not break up play well if at all and he does not tackle at all plus like I said, he gets caught on the ball all the time. I guess there is really no reason to get into this debate again but what we need is another true defensive midfielder and not just a guy playing out of position that does not really add anything to the team.

My opinion about Denilson is that the confidence necessary for him to excel in Arsenal just waned. Mind you, he had a few pretty good displays (the perfect pass completion rate game against West Ham, 1st leg against Barcelona in 2010). Then suddenly he started to make more and more errors and talk sh*t. I don’t think his sale (or his stay) is essential for the success of this season. That said, he already said he would like to leave, last season was a lost one for him and we have a few people who can do his job. The team would benefit from the money, and a fresh start could benefit him as well. If Arsene can restore his confidence, it’s good for us. If he leaves, no greater harm.

The biggest problem to me is he is not a defensive mid but Wenger thinks he is so if he stays I seriously doubt we bring in another proper defensive mid. Also there are squad size limits to consider too.

I have a been going home and a lot away since the late 60’s, I have seen a lot of great, average and awful players for Afc, denilson is awful period, nasri is great… Says it all about things at the arsenal at the moment really.. But football does strange things, it’s hard to call the season yet, depends on the eventual close of the window, the spirit of the squad and what if anything arsene does.. It’s going to be fascinating.. Let’s be positive, why not? Nothing is going to change this season, it WILL next summer, you heard it here first, usmanov will buy out kroenke, how do I know? I just do

The problem with denilson is that he is creative possession type player who is being told to give the ball to players like fabregas nasri wilshere. He is being played out of possition and he dosnt posses the speed or strength to play defensively in the premiership.

“Werder Bremen Per Mertesacker contract running into his last year. Do you see the possiblity as well do you see he fits into our central back role in Arsenal? ”

Why bother? We have Squillaci if we want an average centre-back as back-up. And considering one of the major criticisms of Squill is his lack of pace, Mertesacker is hardly going to solve that. I’ve seen trees move faster.
