Loanees – Simpson Scores Again As Sunu Debuts

Welcome to this weekends Loanees Watch – Young Guns’ analysis, reports and updates on the progress of the young starlets currently plying their trade away from the Emirates Stadium. You can read all the latest reports below.

In the Premier LeagueJack Wilshere was an unused substitute for Bolton Wanderers as they lost 3-0 to Blackburn Rovers. Jack did go and warm up but Manchester City’s Vladmir Weiss was preferred by Owen Coyle.

In the Championship – Jay Simpson played the full game and scored the winner as struggling Queens Park Rangers beat Doncaster Rovers at home. Simpson finished well in the 76th minute after chesting the ball inside the box and finishing across the goalkeeper with a typical strikers finish.

Gilles Sunu featured for the final 65 minutes for Derby County on his debut in a 1-0 defeat to Swansea. The French striker replaced the injured Kris Commons but failed to create anything operating just off Rob Hulse. Gilles was part of a one man wall which failed to block the free kick which Shefki Kuqi grabbed the winner from. Sunu was one of the few Derby players not involved in a late scuffle following a challenge on Robbie Savage.

Henri Lansbury played the complete game for Watford on his return to former loan club Scunthorpe United. In a fierce-some and dogged game, which finished 2-2, Henri had one of his quieter games. Man United loanee Tom Cleverly was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Michael O’Connor.

In League One – Sanchez Watt turned out for 82 minutes for Southend United in their defeat to MK Dons. Sanchez lined up on the left wing but struggled to get involved in a hard fought game.

` Rhys Murphy missed out again through injury.

Elsewhere – Pedro Botelho played the full 90 minutes for Celta Vigo as they beat Cordoba 1-0. Again started on the left of a five man midfield, Pedro continued his good run in the team.

Håvard Nordtveit did not make the Nuremberg squad who lost to Bayern Munich. Kerrea Gilbert’s Peterborough did not face Kyle Bartley’s Sheffield United as the fixture was called off due to bad weather. In League One, Mark Randall and Gavin Hoyte were unused substitute for both MK Dons and Brighton respectively.

i watched a bit of the bolton match, and have to say weiss played bad, his crosses were going every where except for the right place, because of his crosses bolton were not producing clear cut chances.

    J. do you think Simpson can make it at the Arsenal? How highly is he rated? I know he is a clinical finisher just what we need. Give him next year the chance in some games. Weiss over Wilshere! What a cunt Coyle is!!!!

Seems a bit weird Wilshere was man of the match against top European clubs in the Emirates Cup, and then later, when the form really should kick in, he struggles to get minutes at Bolton..against a club like Blackburn. Aslo it doesn’t seem very exciting that he keeps losing out to Weiss, a City-youngster. Maybe this loan wasn’t the best thing for Jack, only positive aspect that comes to mind is the physical challenge he faces every day at the training ground…

I watched Rovers-Bolton game and by what I remember Weiss on all the occasions he had the ball, lost possession or the cross wasn’t accurate. Gavin, Mark, Kerrea unfortunately they’re not going to make it here but I’m interested is Henri going to be given chance to play at his favourable position with so much guys already out there. As I remember he was rated as highly as Jack, wasn’t he?

Lansbury wasnt rated as high as Wilshere but Lansbury still looks a good prospect. I cant stand Owen Coyle. He is getting exactly what he deserves for bailing half way through the season on Burnley. I dont think we should have sent Jack there especially after they signed Weiss. If FC Twente really were asking about him, I would have prefered him going there. Playing under an english manager and play in the dutch league along with the uefa cup, would have been good.

agree, but the only advantage of going to Bolton was that he can toughen up by playing with thugs like Daveis.

Ur absolutly right the Dutch league is far more technical league wich would have developed his positional sense.

Going to Bolton Jack thought he would play alot and do good, impress alot and be a surprise package to go to the world cup.

For Henri to have any chance Arsene will need to ship out Denilson who’s really an average CM and don’t deserve the ‘exceptional talent’ label placed on him.

I think that for Lansbury, Simpson, Sunu, the rest of the loaned out players who have plenty of youth ahead of them in their position how well they do while they are loaned will be extremely important. Look what happened to Muamba, Larsson, the italian kid (what was his name?) versus Bendtner, Djourou, Traore… When they go out and show that certain something that Wenger likes then they get the chance to come back. When they don’t, they get shipped out. Traore didn’t play every game at Portsmouth- especially once they got the new manager, but he still came back and got the chance to show what he can do.

I actually think seb larsson would have been useful to our squad. I thought the main reason he left was because he got impatient and preferred to be playing regularly. Right now I wouldnt be too disappointed having him as backup in midfield.

yeah your right. I think Lansbury + Simpson will have a bright future with us!! They need only to be patient!!

Yeah Arturo Lupoli is the one, I think he plays for Sheffield United? Also, what about Quincy Owusu-Abeyie? He got signed on loan by Porstmouth…

But yeah, the more patient type of man always gets a better chance at Arsenal as they’re used when Wenger thinks they’re ready and needed, not when they want to play for the sake of it.

Dissapointed to see how less minutes Jack is getting. Shane I doubt Jack would have wanted to move abroad, would be difficult for someone so young.

Also Jamie, Bayern drew 1-1 with Nuremburg.

Jack Wilshere will play a lot more in the coming weeks, i’m certain of it. Especially after the big loss today, and that he impressed when he got the chance. Coyle isn’t stupid, he’ll use him

Jesus wept, grow up. Coyle has a priority and that’s it – to win games. For Wilshere to be around professionals who have so much on the line as a relegation scrap will open his eyes immeasurably. Secondly, he’s there to train, too, don’t forget. It isn’t only about game time. It’s about competing for a place in the starting eleven. day after tedious day, finding out what’s expected of you and putting in the effort. Game time is not just given to you b/c you signed and because some folks on here wish it were so. The point is to earn your place. Lansbury is earning his place, and the self-esteem that comes with that is a crucial component of growing up. You all sound like American parents who say “good job” and give their kids trophies for just showing up, for doing the minimum. Actually, those complaining sound like spoilt kids used to getting what they want when they want, slagging off adults coping in a world the kids no little about. Not saying you are, but listen to yourselves complaining based on what? Something different happening than what you think is the ideal. Mostly, you don’t have a clue. Either time will tell that Coyle’s a bonehead or, Coyle’s tactics called for Weiss rather than Wilshere. Are they carbon copies of one another? Too complicated for you? Finally, Coyle may have a bigger plan and he’s got a whole squad of personalities to get the best out of – again, too complicated for you? Sorry to come down hard but I think some of you need a bit of a spanking.

Blackburn is a big and physical side and wilshere might had struggle and been hurt. This is only the 3rd game since wilshere went to Bolton? Wilshere will play alot more as soon as Coyle finds out how to best to use Wilshere. If Weiss keep messing up the play and wilshere keeps impress, you know whos gonna play. Wilshere is a smart boy and he will play alot more.

    come on Wilshere!!!

I cant really see any of our loan players making it at arsenal unless we are taking steps back. I think players suck as watt sunu simpson gilbert lansbury randall will be good players for sure but not of the quality to be a PL winning/challenging side. I just dont think ther’re going to be anything really special just a neat and tidy player who either is the star player in a teams battling relegation or are more squad players in teams such as everton/villa. Wilshere has the best chance but its worrying that he cant even make many subs appearances for bolton and other youngsters are ahead of him.

Regarding JW, i agree completely with Tim. Still, after impressing against Man City, he should have never lost his place. With their current personnel i would drop Elmander (too similar to Kevin Davies in many ways) for Wilshere, and deploy young Jack just behind Davies, with Lee to the right and Weiss to the left. Matty Taylor has been poor lately so he will have to be dropped or sent back to LB in place of the useless Robinson. I would also play Muamba as the guy who breaks up the play of the oppo and plays it simple to the more creative midfield players alongside Gardner who will give them legs in the centre of the park. There’s also Mark Davies who could do this job. Coyle definitely has the players to get them out of trouble but i really feel 4-5-1 is their best bet.

As for Szczesny. Yes he conceded two late goals but there really wasn’t much he could do for either, especially the first, which was a very good finish.

P.S. I hate repitition and cliches but nice new blog J.S. :)

I agree 4-5-1 is the way to go for Bolton but more specifically I’d say a 4-2-3-1.

You see this time and again – premiership or championship coaches spending A LOT of time recrutiign and wooing Arsenal youths, then once they get them, refuse to play them.

I think the real reason is they want to pick their brains, hoping the young guys will give them inside info into coaching methods drills etc used by Arsenal. An experience player will not spill the beans but young guys eager to show they know so much – and besides dont realise this is privileged and proprietary information.
