Arsenal’s Under 18′s are through to the Southend United FC Youth Cup Final after beating Dutch side FC Twente 3-1. The Gunners face West Ham United in tomorrow’s show piece after they beat hosts Southend on penalties.

Steve Bould named a young side which included a raft of new scholars and a debut for new signing Kyle Ebecilio. Goalkeeper Sean McDermott was the only professional in the side.

McDermott
Glasgow – Edge – Monteiro – Brislen-Hall
Rees – Webb – Ebecilio
Monakana – Ansah – Bihmoutine

Arsenal began under pressure but settled well as the half wore on. The Gunners eventually got their passing game together and after turning up the heat, Samir Bihmoutine thumped home a header off the cross bar. Ebecilio was incredible in the middle of the park and he layed on the second. A delightful inch perfect through ball found Ansah in the box, he finished clinically to double the advantage.

The second half was just as eventful. Some awful defending allowed Twente the chance to half the deficit from the spot, and they did. A poor penalty to give away and it set up a nervous finish to the game. A raft of substitutions came on but it was the club’s summer acquisitions who combined to seal a place in the final. Ebecilio’s 40 yard pass found Philip Roberts, he stormed away from the defender but was fouled in the box for an obvious spot kick. Bihmoutine stepped up and converted from 12 yards for 3-1.

Elsewhere, an Arsenal XI coached by Liam Brady was thrashed 4-1 by Welling United. Brady rotated and gave starts to many of this seasons Under 18′s including Martin Angha and Jernade Meade. Gavin Hoyte did manage a 16th minute strike, but Arsenal were crushed by the non-league outfit.

Hello from a Norwegian Gooner in Austria… Thx for a great site JS.

I have been on both traningssession today, and this is my input to this site.
The morningsession was most running and AW drill some defensive stuff, and some freekicks. Nasri and Song shots best, and none leftfooted player score from freekics.. (VanP was not there) In the evning AW played a game with 20 players. In the Green team :
    Alm1 – Sagna, Clichy, Djou20, Håvard – Song, Nasri, AA23 – Vela, Cha29
They played against the Yellow for 6 short halfs, total of 30 min. In the Yellow team :
Vito – Eboue, Gibbs, Kos6, Verm5 – Frimpong, Rosicky, Walcott – JET, Wilshere.
(Maybe this two sides will play each half on tuesday)
The Yellow team won 2-0 after goals from JET and a lovley chip from Wilshere. Both goals came in the first 10 min. What I saw : The Green team struggle to create chances. Only Nasri impresses me in front of goal (in the Green team) AA23 tried to pass Eboue 5-6 times without luck, and he looked no good at the moment. Nobody runs more than Eboue today. JET and Jack impresses me inside the box. Vito and Alm1 made some good saves, and I think AW will play them on tuesday. I think all of the 4 CD played well. Kos6 was very good and gave Cha29 no chances. Verm5 and Kos6 could be our CD-pair this year. Just before the end Djou20 fouled Wilshere, and he stays down…. But he walked out and looks OK.
Today Eastmond runs on his own, and Diaby (calf), Traore (hamstring), Henderson and Landsbury did not show up at all. Fabi and Szczesny was there, but did not play the game.
Thats all from Bad Walterdorf !!

      SuperMac,

You are a King! Thanks very much for the report.

And thank you too J. for having such a great site with so many fantastic Arsenal fans.

Well, it’s interesting that Henri and Hendo weren’t their for the scrimage. What’s that all about I wonder. Do they both have small injuries from the Sturm match?

Glad to hear that jack and JET are continuing to show well in training. Jack and JET are looking more and more like being ready for a shot to contribute to our 1st team this year. Very much looking forward to seeing how they perform in the Emerites Cup.

Djourou needs to chill a bit. No need to go kicking your own during preseason. That’s how we lost Nas last year when Diaby broke his leg in training….

Just to echo KC really. Thanks for this. Its like getting two articles for one, and both made interesting reading :)

Excellent work Supermac – How was walcott, is he showing anything??

  8. comment by SuperMac

Hi Philip. Theo is in good mood and talks to everyone.. But I think he has not improved a lot. He has the pace, but the passes is not good. Today in the game he play wide on the right side, and vs Clichy. Theo could not pass Gael once (I think). Yesterday he runs down to the flag 10 times, but the passes went often nowhere… I have high hopes for Theo, and if he stays fit this could be his season… He work so hard…

It disappoints me how highly wenger seems to rate walcott when there are a number of reserves who seem to be at least as good, despite being much less experienced now. Imo walcott’s development should be taken down in the list of priorities with others being given more chances (vela and wilshere in particular).

Thanks for that mate – Appreciate the info

Nice info supermac. Thanks! I heard Chamakh was no good today in training?

  19. comment by SuperMac

Nordtveit is comf in the CD-role, but he has only turn 20 years some weeks ago, and have a lot to learn. He will get stronger. He handle JET & Jack very well, and had some great runs on the right side from his CD possision

  20. comment by SuperMac

Yes Headbanger, Cha29 was not very good today (cred to Kos6/Verm5), but we must give him some time. Two days ago he showed some great stuff and had a “bullet” in the top corner.

Who are siafa and hayden? Trialists?

  25. comment by AlexL

Christ I love this blog, I must admit that after a year or two of reading JS’s match reports for reserves and youth team matches, often published only minutes after they have finished; Transfer news which is regularly light years ahead of anyone else’s, Koscielny, Wellington, Ebecilio to name but a few – I probably take this site for granted far more than I should and to top things off even the bloody punters are producing indepth analysis you won’t find anywhere else. Genuinely insightful and entertaining as always, which is a rare thing indeed for an Arsenal blog excellent work. I’m also pleased as punch to see a few of the young players I’ve followed for the last couple of years – primarily through this site, making a real push for the first team.

  26. comment by Charlie Nicholas

Great SuperMac, keep it coming, KC- Henderson wasn’t playing vs Sturm, so hes carrying some injury, and apparently so das Lansbury and i think you’re right about him.

  27. comment by Hiro

why did the yellow and green teams only have 10 players per squad supermac?

    • comment by Jom

      the others were not available?

    • comment by SuperMac

      Hi Hiro
AW have 27 players down here, and just 22 was fit yesterday. But AW use just 2 GK, so Fabi and Szcz did not play. Diaby, Henderson, Landsbury, Traore and Eastmond was not fit.

  28. comment by Andrew

kyle Embelico can turn out to be a very useful acquisition
from what I heard from J and other people he looks an awesome player who can shoot and also has an eye for a pass
    thanks J for update

I propose that Arsenal fans World wide post letters once a week for the next four weeks to UEFA & FIFA complaining about Barcelona FC’s ‘tapping up’ of Cesc Fabregas. Also post a letter just once to Arsenal FC requesting that they formally complain to UEFA & FIFA. I have drawn up 3 template letters that I will email to willing participants. All you need to do is type in your own Name & Address before printing off & posting. Momentum will be boosted by you forwarding the email to every one of your Arsenal FC fan family & friends, encouraging them to participate.
The aim of repetitive letters is to create an Admin headache for UEFA & FIFA with thousands of letters received from all over the world & display the strength of feeling from Arsenal FC fans. The purpose of the single letter to Arsenal FC is again to display the strength of feeling from us fans.
My email address for this campaign from where I will email you the letter templates is …….. ArsenalFansHateBarcelonaFC@gmail.com

Sounds like a great idea, have you had a reply? I sent a email via the UEFA website about both the spanish big boys tapping up (didn’t want to sound like a bitter gooner) and got a standard reply. It advised me of standard areas to direct my email although that’s where it sent it. Is there an e-carpet at UEFA to brush these emails under ? Good luck and please update
