Video: Botelho Solo Goal v Villarreal B

Pedro Botelho told Arsenal’s Official Magazine last month his style is similar to that of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale. The Brazilian further added to that comparison by scoring a Bale-esque goal against Villarreal B yesterday.

Botelho played the full 90 minutes at left back for FC Cartagena, who beat Villarreal’s second string 2-0. The 20-year-old opened the scoring with a brilliant solo effort, after incepting the ball in his own half.

You can watch Pedro’s goal here.

Nothing like Bale’s goal really. More like comical defending with a period of poor ball control and a good shot.

I watched the Cartagena game to see Botelho and he was excellent. Scored the first goal and won the free-kick that made the second with another of his marauding runs.

And he did a sublime bit of skill to nutmeg the Vilarreal fullback a 2-0, pulling the ball behind himself before flicking it forward. Quite similar to JET’s goal against Everton Reserves.

Never realised he was as gangly, seems to have a turn of pace though.. Premier league pace is another thing, I reckon pedro has his work cut out for him..

Goal was good but not so special. He had no man to stop him before he was in the penalty area. It will be a another thing against quality teams in the premier league. I will say that was poor defending.

“He had no man to stop him before he was in the penalty area.”

Yes, it’s called a counter attack. That’s how Ronaldo scored 80% of his PL goals, running at an isolated defence with the players backing off him scared of his pace.

Before any numpty steams in: No, I am not saying that Botelho will be as good as Ronaldo.

There is nothing wrong with that goal at all, the defenders know Botelho has pace and skill and getting tight on him is dangerous.

I agree, in the prem that just won’t work. There was no rush back to stop him, no anchorman to hound him and the right back just dropped off and didn’t know what to do. He had time, time he wont get in England.

I think he needs to develop a marauding/explosive mindset if he’s going to do that day in day out in the prem.

and what is so special about the bale goals except pace and galloping and beating the last man.bale is very ordinary when there is nowhere to run.so maybe bale is faster but not any better than pedro technically.

He’ll be better than Bale because he’s not only audacious, but from what I have seen of the two them he’s way better in tight situations, and finally he’s so cynical. He’ll wind people up no end. He actually taunts defenders. Immature I know, but the kind of arrogance that we could use a bit of.

Whether he’s going to improve to be good enough for the premierleague we can only wait and see. He seems brave enough, too. The thing is who is going to get on the end of his balls into the box. Could you see Bale at arsenal wasting those pin point crosses from unexpected positions out wide? Bale is great with a head of steam on him. Pedro can (at a segunda division level) do it with a head of steam and without one. Lets enjoy his development instead of acting like old gypsies telling fortunes.

Let’s hope so. Really is his best position wing back? That’s quite different from an adventurous full back. Look where he wins the ball in the video, a LB doesn’t have the license to be there even in an arsenal team. Be interesting to see how he fits in.

He’s nowhere near Bales standard at this moment in time. The spanish segunda is absolutly light years off the quality of the premier league, the defending there is appalling, well taken goal but we have to remember the quality of the opposition is terrible.

He’s no where near the quality of Bale, or even Gibbs. Maybe soon, but defo not for next season

Would anyone say that thierry henrys run from inside his own half unchallenged till in the box against inter at the San siro is an average goal? No.Too many people looking at the negatives here rather than the plusses, whether he goes onto be a regular or a squad player it don’t matter,we certainly need a player or two who can get at defenders and stretch the game like theo walcotts done so well this year, any coincidence that when he’s missing we struggle?Lose the plodders ie denilson, shitacci, diaby and rosicky etc and bring in players with the drive and hunger like botelho, miyachi,Lansbury etc who all have a point to prove and let them put pressure on the first team for a place

The other thing about Botelho is that he hasn’t missed but one match this season. He’s durable, at least away from the Hurly Burly of the UK leagues.

    I really like botelho.

I think the bale comparison is a good one.

But maybe botelh has got more tricks, skills to play as a left winger.

I want to see him as a left winger rather than a left back.

They both are very athletic can run and run day fowards and backwards.

Hes a bit like dannie alves in that sense.

I am really loooking foward to him next season

C’mon, we need this kid next season. We only got 3 wingers(Nasri, TO, Andrij), he would be a useful addition, because we need more depth in that position.

And he can play at left back too, and most importantly, HE CAN CROSS THE BALL PROPERLY.

Wanna see him in the squad next season!

Comparing him to dani alves and bale? You guys are jokers, dont forget that this kid is playing against chumps in this league, if hes playing regularly for us next season itll be too early and ruin him.

Being able to do it in the segunda means nothing, its like the equivalent of league one, its seriously poor.

Armand Traore has more chance out of these two at the moment. This is the classic trap everyone falls into, watch the kids play well and overhype them os when they inevitably dont turn into the world class superstars you all think theyll be they get turned on and it all goes tits up. They cant all be Jack Wilsheres, Miyaichis only played about 7 or 8 games for gods sake and everyone thinks hes the answer for next season? Mentals

Everyones putting way too much expectation on their shoulders. This kids no where near the level of, say, Lansbury – whos probably closest out of all the loanees to breaking into the team, and even for him next seasons probably too soon, maybe the bench. maybe.

Clichy age 25, Gibbs 21, Traore 21, Botelho 21 Cruise 20. Someone needs to revert to another position or there will be little room for all these “left backs” Compare that to our right back options Sagna 28, Eboue 27, Hoyte 20, Eastmond 20 it makes you wonder why Wenger is intent on converting Eboue into a winger, Hoyte into a centre half and Eastmond into a DM. Think you can also see we are so reliant on Sagna staying fit and personally i dont think he is even that special.

@bc, Sagna is one of the most consistent and reliable right backs in the premier league. The only place he put a foot wrong was on djourou’s shoulder. Other than that being excellent.

To be honest hes been crap.

I cant believe we have got another central midfield.

We have signed miquel toral as well.

I dont get it why we sign so many central midfielders.

Yes passing is good but we need more variety we need pace, we need dribblers, we need trickery.

I have not seen botelho play so I dont know how good he is. But looking at this piece and the discussions following it saddens me. I remember the time that it was tottenham fans trying to hype some of their promising players and comparing them with the arsenal stars. But times have changed, and here we are, discussing and hoping that botelho will be as good or better than Bale.

It is time for AW to abandon his ridicolus youth strategy or go somewhere else!

think about what your saying here. Think about the young talent Arsenal have that most teams would love to have. Also, Bale is one of the players Spurs purchased while he was still young and developing his talent. Other than that your comment was genius . . .

  • March 29, 2011 at 6:10 pm
    Permalink

I agree that arsenal have a group of young talented players that most club envy. But the team has not won anything yet, and AW refuses to buy the extra talent needed to secure some trophys. rather he hopes that next year he will have developed some new players to fill the gap, and invests in , at best, mediocre players like Squilacci to fill the gap in the mean time. Seriously, what ohter big club than arsenal would buy silvestre and squilacci?

Our wagebill is also one of the highest in the premierleague, and hence, the world. That shows that wages are not connected to performance and success anymore at arsenal.

But I hope that things will change and we get the success hungry wenger back! that would be a best case senario for arsenal.
