Arsenal’s Next Star Lined Up

The new Mesut Ozil?

Arsenal already have one Mesut Ozil in their midfield, but if rumours are true, they could be about to add another one very soon.

That’s because reports in Germany claim 17-year-old Kai Havertz of Bayer Leverkusen is being strongly linked with a summer switch to the Emirates. The BBC has picked up the news in their gossip column recently, adding some strength to the claims.

Havertz is a tall, left-footed central midfielder who has been dubbed ‘the new Mesut Ozil’ in Germany because of his similar style of play. He’s also admitted that Ozil is his idol, so claims that they could be linking up together very soon seem legit.

Havertz has made 20 first-team appearances this season for Leverkusen, scoring one goal, and even played in the Champions League.

Arsenal could use that experience even if FootballPredictions.com suggest they won’t make European football next football, due to their horrible Premier League form.

Wikipedia stats show Havertz has played 16 times for Germany’s impressive youth teams, scoring twice, and early suggestions are that he’d cost about £10million. That seems a lot for such a young player, but it appears to be very much worth it.

Havertz is right up there with the best young players in the world. He’s been bubbling just under the radar for months but now the secret is out. Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan are also keen on the player, so it looks like being a major battle to sign the German. But The Gunners need to win this race.

It promises to be huge summer for Arsenal in the transfer market, with several new faces expected to arrive. A new goalkeeper, a left-back, midfielder and striker are all being talked about. Jordan Pickford could be the goalie option, while Sead Kolasinac has a huge chance of being the left-back. Havertz would be a good option as the midfielder, and that just leaves a forward.

It’s great to see what Arsenal appear to have got all of their main targets lined up a month before the season ends. So many times in recent years we’ve seen Arsenal scrapping around for players and struggling to get the ones they want.

Many will see the sorts of players being lined as young, potential stars rather than proven names, but with Arsene Wenger likely to continue as manager, youngsters will always be the way forward.

In terms of budget, Arsenal will likely have about £150million to spend. That seems a lot, but the reality is that it isn’t that much compared to what others will spend, so choosing to splash out on several players rather than a couple of £40million ones seems to make a lot more sense.

Add all of these additions in with the returning Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers and Arsenal have all the makings of a really top side for next season. Plenty will be moved on, including Joel Campbell, Wojciech Szczesny, Jon Toral and maybe even Takuma Asano if he struggles to win a work permit, so gear yourselves up for plenty of changes.
